One dog a child an old grannie or a disabled person me crossing that road how many of these cyclists would have been able to stop in time ? Answer none of them! Plant pots ! Comment made by a disabled cyclist .
ANY vehical, be it motor or pedal power, if used on the public highway MUST abide by the rules of the road as written in law. Cyclists MUST obey traffic lights and the rules on pedestrian crossings, must NOT overtake or undertake on approach to any junction, pedestrian crossing, or roundabout, MUST stop at a stop junction, must NOT stop in a box junction etc etc etc. A cyclist is not even allowed to mount the pavement and cycle around a corner to avoid a red traffic light. There was a clip on here where a copper pulled over a cyclist for jumping a red light while turning left, the copper chased after and stopped him and asked for the cyclists "documents", of which are NOT required by law. However, even though the copper made himself look an incompetent idiot, he WAS in the right, and should have asked for "Proof of identity and address" so charges could have been brought. The cyclist had actually commited an offence under the road traffic act, and as such was lawfully obliged to give proof of identification, of which if he was unable to do so, the copper would then have the legal power of arrest, and have the cyclist taken down to the police station for questioning and charges to be brought. It`s also a legal requirement for ALL cycles used on the public highway to be in a safe condition with good tyres and brakes, and if ridden after dark, MUST have proper working lights. I was told, though i don`t know for certain, that a cyclist CAN be prosecuted for riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but that will likely only result in a fine.
The answers are: No - Traffic Lights Apply to ALL vehicles. Yes - ZPPPCRGD regs 18, 20 & 24 only apply to MOTOR Vehicles. Yes - Filtering on the left on a bicycle is legal in the UK and the highway code actually tells motorists to keep an eye out for people filtering before turning.
Why is it always a case of us vs them? They're behaving badly, so we can. They're more dangerous, so it's okay for us. Why not just minimise all risk to everyone - full stop. It could be your family or friends hurt.
No we are not and we are supposed to remain within the laws of the road unlike these EGOTISTICAL nutters. If your going to fast to stop when your supposed to stop on a cycle then your going to fast ! From a pb .
If I'm going through a green light, and a puddle pusher decides to run a red and becomes integrated in the front of my car, I'll still sleep at night, after I send him the bill for damages
As that was in a 20 zone, that was probably the safest way the cyclists could get past the motorbike If they waited at the light, they could have been stuck behind the motorbike when it got up to the speed limit, and that could be more dangerous if they needed to overtake
Yes, the law and highway code applies. Some people don't follow it. For example, most motorists speed everyday, many use their mobile phones while driving, plenty go through red lights, lots don't indicate, don't use lanes properly on the motorway and so on. That's life. Compare the injury and death CAUSED by cyclists v the injury and death caused by motorists, not to mention deaths by pollution. No comparison. We need more people cycling around cities.
The law refers to passing motor vehicles on the zigzags, this point has not been clearly identified in the highway code, that therefore excludes cycles. The cyclists are filtering in the same manner that motorcycles frequently do. Running red lights is the only one against the law. I did not see anything dangerous in what they did, however, in some cities, Paris I think is one, cyclists can treat a red light as a give way, how sensible is that, too sensible for the UK to adopt.
As a cyclist who does actually ride safely and abides by the rules, it annoys me so much that some cyclists ride like dickheads. Gives the rest of us a bad name! I do try and call some of them out on it when I can (if I don’t think they will kick off too much at me!)
If burning fossil fuels raises the temperature of our only planet why not let cyclists do what they want? After all what harm were they doing. Huge cars in gridlock are the real problem. Why is it cool to drive SUV in a big city. Humanity will soon struggle and these cyclists are the problem?
A medical fact - An athletic cyclist, at peak exertion, was measured to emit 4 litres of CO2 per breath exhale,,,,,,, the same amount of CO2 that an SUV emits in 30 minutes.
Cyclist should be given licence to pass a red to get ahead of the traffic when in this case the cycle lane is closed and they have to use the car lane due to the green obstruction as it is safer for them and does not impeded traffic. if the cycle / scooter does not use pedal power then i think there is a case to adhere to the highway code maybe?
Now we have e-bykes and e-scooters on the road with ones that can exceed the national speed limit there need to be a change in the law a quick search on you tube shows they have no respect for the law if we don't look at a national registration we are heading into big problems
In Paris they sensibly changed the law so cyclists could treat traffic lights as "give way". This coincided with a reduction in accidents for all road users. I'm not claiming causation, but at the very least it made no difference, & as can be seen from the clip above, cyclists jumping an empty pedestrian crossing is a victimless crime.. Of course the law is the law & should be obeyed if only to stop motorist whinging.
There is a huge difference between pedestrian lights and junction lights. Cyclists with their quick stopping distance and all round visibility should be able to treat pedestrian lights as zebra crossings, fine to cross when empty but must stop the second a pedestrian sets foot on one.
I ride a bicycle, motorbike and a car. Every mode of transport has it advantages and disadvantages. The advantage on riding a bicycle is the ability to jump such stupidly designed red lights who stay on for far longer than needed (in a safe manner). If you think otherwise, you're just salty. It is also safer for a cyclist to be overtaken somewhere down the road than start at green light with all other traffic. I also hate lycra people, but think about netherlands and the leisure of flowing slowly on your bike. Don't be salty, try it someday.
If the number of cyclists that break red lights multiplies by 10,000 times, then there will be as many of them as car drivers that don't use their indicators when turning.
For me, I will ignore traffic light only if there's no multiple intersection ahead of me. Based on the vid, I think there's no multiple intersection ahead of them.
Virtually all pedestrians killed or seriously injured at crossings or junctions were hit by cars or trucks. Most years, 0 pedestrians are killed at crossings by cyclists in the UK. Cyclists jumping lights may be annoying for other road users, but to portray it as a major issue as many motorists tend to is a joke. Motorcyclists especially should get their own house in order as they are by far the worst behaved road users. Speeding is endemic, & they have the worst casualty rates.
It's more to do with respect for the highway code. It's hypocritical for a cyclist to complain about cars if they pick and choose which rules they want to obey themselves, and visa versa.
@@keithcolman9868 I'm all for following the rules to the letter...I was driving down the M4 today, not a single driver was obeying the speed limit apart from me, & i was aggressively tailgated & flashed for my trouble doing 68 mph. . .
