It's been a long time, so my memory could be faulty, but I don't remember Tyson ever talking as much smack as he did before the Lewis fight, it was hyperbolic. Compare that to the quiet confidence he brought into the ring pre-Tokyo. I think that Mike knew that he wasn't doing what he needed to do to win anymore, and didn't really WANT to be fighting. He was doing his best to psyche himself up, and promote the fight. As great as Lewis was at this time (and how good his fight plan was, and how well he executed it), I fully believe that the Tyson who knocked Spinks and Holmes out would have made quick work of Lewis on this night. Shows how much of the sport is mental.

Nah, this was Mike when he was right at the peak of his psyco stage. He was trying to break arms and punching refs out of the way. It wasnt an act, at least not fully. The shit talk went on for a couple of years.
Lennox beat the phsyco out of mike, watch the post fight interviews, hes holding his kid and is more or less the tyson we have today.
Do you know that Lewis is I believe 5 months older than Tyson. Lexis was a boxer and Tyson was a fighter. Had rough life. I do admire Tyson especially now. He is a different man from when he fought.
Mike Tyson did the whole pre-fight hyperbolic ranting and raving thing for multiple fights after he lost to Buster Douglas and went to prison. Later on Tyson admitted to always being constantly afraid, up until he got into the ring. I believe that motivated much of what he did and who he chose to be. That constant state of fear and uncertainty about himself. When Cus D'Amato was training him before Cus died at the very beginning of Tyson's career before Tyson first won the title, Cus would literally spend hours with Mike Tyson trying to build up his confidence. After hearing Tyson talk about Cus after his career was over with and all of the need to create fear in others was gone, I personally got a deeper understanding of the fighter I once thought was the greatest because of his skill, but then I hated because of his horrible anti-social behavior and unsportsmanlike behavior. I realized I never knew anything about the man at all beyond the fame, fighting, and hyperbole. I think you could be right about the Tyson who fought Holmes fighting Lewis and winning. But once that confidence was gone, once he started to age and no longer had that same youthful rage filled physicality, I think he reverted to the street thug trying to create fear with his words and his persona.
He was trying to hype his self up and tap into old Tyson. He was trying to back his self in a corner.

Mayweather got to Connor by taking his home flag and messing with it. First time I ever saw Connor uncomfortable in a talking sheot match. As Connor said "make no mistake" Mayweather carried that fight for the fans and sponsors to get their moneys worth. Plain and simple, Mayweather would of taken care of Connor in the first 2 rounds easily.

As a child of the 80s Tyson v Lennox was the hardest for me to watch, then and now. Like him or not, Iron Mike is an icon - and it's always tragic to see icons lessen themselves, especially when they invoke a deity by name so brazenly. Glad to see he's in a much better headspace these days.
I enjoy watching McGregor work in the octagon, and small doses of his swagger are actually a bit endearing if not at least good for an lol. He was just *so* damn disrespectful to Mayweather. The only excuse for pulling for Conor in that fight I'll acccept is if you took the +400 on him from a sports book 😂
Tyson has said since that going into that fight he could feel himself slipping due to age and the "eat his children " comments were his way of masking his denial.
I made money on the Mayweather vs McGregor fight because when I heard the negotiations it was Floyd who asked for the 8oz gloves . Being that he was a defensive specialist I was like " the only reason he is doing that is that Floyd thinks he can knock him out" & took all the action I could get. I worked at Lowe's at the time and my boss got on me for people coming up to me to pay after the fight.... I thought it was amusing as I was stuffing my pockets but he saw it different....

It's hard to believe that by this time, Mike Tyson was washed-up and had to resort to trash talk. At his peak, with proper training from Kevin Rooney, he was very respectful and didn't say much. The knockouts said everything.
