Eleventh Moment: A Saintly Man
Despite the lavish surroundings of the Court, Anthony remained a deeply devout and disciplined religious figure. His daily routine included extensive prayer, remarkable austerity in his lifestyle, and moderation in his eating and drinking habits. He rose at 3 AM, dedicating two hours to prayer and Bible reading before the others awoke. He celebrated the Eucharist and heard confessions until 10 AM, then devoted time to writing. In the afternoons, he preached, and visited hospitals, prisons, schools, and convents, embodying a model of poverty. Anthony was known for his mystical experiences, including receiving the Child Jesus in his arms and a unique grace of conserving the sacramental species for nine years, feeling Jesus's almost tangible presence within him.
