As someone who actually likes superheroes, these videos usually end up just making me more interested in genuinely learning about a character. Hawkman is someone who I've always seen on the Justice League and then never really cared enough to look into.

I like that Aquaman doesn't actually have any reactions to the jokes until Hawkman insults him, and then Aquaman just looks at him like "Dude, really?" And then at the end, when the team was apologizing, Aquaman was just like "it's all good" with a big smile to show he was a good sport about the humor. He seemed to understand they were just joking around with him, but glares at Hawkman since he could see Hawkman didn't understand it was a joke.
SolidJJ needs to write his own cartoon or something. He's awesome at this.

Up there personalized insults are generally for friends
Aquaman only cares about helping people in his own way, if he's not generally regarded as "cool" or "powerful" he dosen't mind. He knows he's useful but he also know that his main identity power a bit of a gimmick with limitation but still very helpful. If people have fun with that then whatever.
He is unironically a true chad. He is secure in what he can do and know it helps and that what matters.
but while he's ok with being the "shaggy" of the group. The important member that's also a bit comedic on the outlook. He won't tolerate nor reduce himself to other people sincere disrespect.
Menawhile hawkman is scrambling for approval and to prove him himself. He is not secure in how he goes about helping people. Probably has something to do with the guilt of the dead on his mind.
Hawkman's joke was even meaner than theirs. Batman just made a Nemo joke whereas Hawkman called him a stupid idiot bastard. That's barely even a joke.

Yeah. When I first got this video randomly recommended to me I was like "hawkman? There's a hawkMAN!? I thought the Justice League had a Hawkwoman...". So, y'know, it made the video better because I also didn't remember him.. actually, I didn't knew he existed, but same thing :v
I mean this argument can b said abt a lot of things. When ur DC and u want representation ur going to either make a character u alrdy have shine in the spotlight or make a new character and I prefer the first option. Ofc this does make bigger problems like Hal Jordan v John Stewart cuz every1 loves both of them but storyboard writers keep trying to make the other one up each other in founding position in the JL. This case is Hawkgirl v Hawkman and uhhhhh there arent many females on the team; albeit I think the option was adding any1 for the 7th spot and they rlly wanted a female so my argument is kinda in vain so it was never abt adding a bird person to the team they just wanted a girl
Given how Hawkgirl is in comics. It's less so that Hawkman is lame in comparison than it is that the Justice League cartoon actually bothered to take those characters and actually give them a coherent, easy to follow background and story that is of good quality. Secret alien agent who infiltrates Earth to gather Intel and prepare for conquest who grows attached to her comrades and the world she has defended only forced to betray her friends, betray her species to do what she believes is right and goes under self exile for her guilt is far more compelling than what they got in the comics.
At least when Hawkman puts an enemy down, he stays down.

Okay, Lantern, that’s kinda unfair considering we have Batman over here with razor-sharp boomerangs that could easily kill someone just as easily.

The basic batarang is just a boomerang, which as a weapon existed throughout history pretty much alongside the mace as a weapon if not predating it. If you call a mace archaic and obsolete, you’d have to call the batarang the same thing.
As for Batman basically being a ninja, though, that’s a good point. But how do we know that Hawkman doesn’t train himself to do the same thing and make sure he doesn’t fatally injure a person?
@@justin2308 well the batarang is pretty versatile. It could he used for just about almost any situation. I mean, he can be able to use it for non lethal situations like disarming a guy, cutting rope. His weapons can potentially be lethal but with his training he can turn his bat shaped ninja throwing stars into a tool for pacification instead of death. (And also he had to like dump out possibly a million dollars to custom make those things.)
The mace however is pretty much lethal in every sense of the word. The mace had been specifically made to ruin some poor schmuck's day. Not only is hawkman's the typical big ball with spikes all over it but with his strength and warrior mentality. He is well sorted for something as war instead of being a hero.

Finally someone mentions the mace. I remember Hawk Girl knocking people out with that thing, but there’s spikes, so it looks a lot less gorey than it should. I always wondered if she had some hidden field or power that stopped the spikes from piercing, why the flipping mace then.
Hawkman makes sense to use it, his reincarnation powers means that he lived many different eras and so it's reasonable that he probably mastered the mace but... Not sure about hawkgirl.

You know, to me, Hawkman is the first thing I think when someone says superhero. He's strong, he can fly, he has a weapon that is not a gun, he has some sort of animal thing going on. He's every superhero ever distilled into one.

Also, Hawkgirl sometimes remembers, its not like she just never has any memories. Also, they don't have to sleep together or anything, they can reincarnate into any people
I kinda like the interpretation that Aquaman is actually competent and an integral part of the team, but they call him useless as a light-hearted inside joke

Hawkman is battling immortal wizards who tries to bend the fabrics of reality for breakfast. But then he dies, resurrects and forget about it.
I think the best part of this is Batman (and presumably the rest of the team) admitting that their jabs at Aquaman aren't malicious, but simple friendly ribbing. And Aquaman takes it because he knows that, at the end of the day, they're all buds. ☺️

Even while Aquaman is on the surface, he still has super-human strength, just like Superman. It also makes sense that he'd be that strong considering that he lives in a city at the bottom of the ocean which is under a lot of pressure. Only the strongest would be able to survive the amount of pressure down there.

All the fish at the bottom of the ocean, when brought up to land, start falling apart because they're used to the high density. It's like the lack of density is tearing them apart. So realistically being in high pressure would make Aquaman weaker on land
he didn't had super-strength originally they added that later so that people stop making fun of him

Ironically, Hawkman probably has the most broken ability.
Reincarnated knowledge, he literally can retain learned info in a past life, meaning as long as he goes out of his way to learn as many things as possible, he acts in a similar way to a book of knowledge; he could've read every book in the library of Alexandria and retell them for future generations.
By far a much more important power then lets say, hitting someone really hard or like, flying or something
Yeah when Hawkman is written well he's a badass Warrior poet type who has literal near endless experience on the battlefield and has lived so many lives he's amassed a ton of knowledge and philosophy.
Like sure he's not as strong as some of the other Leaguers but his sheer experience and fighting skill lets him keep up with most anyone.
Flying is useful but there is nothing stating he remembers that knowledge is there?
So his power is to get Isekai'ed?
Here's how I though this would go:
Batman: "Jesus Christ Hawkman, show some respect"
Hawkman: "Bu-but I though we were on the same boat here..."
Superman: "Same boat? Now you're just being offensive"
Hawkman: "You literally mock him every day"
Green Lantern: "We mock Aquaman to humble him, he's literally the richest and most deadly member of the Justice League."
Hawkman: "Oh really now? He talks to fish!"
Batman: "He's also a sovereign of 70℅ of Earth and controls a portion of Earth's economy"
Superman: "And speaking of being dangerous, Hawkman you're a crazy nutjob dressed with overalls over naked body wielding a mace"
Hawkman: "FFS Aquaman wears orange fishnets over green pants!"
Green Lantern: "And has a cool trident too with immaculate powers"
Hawkman: "I discovered a magic metal that can shape-shift into anything!"
Batman: "Yet you still can't use it more creatively, unlike Hal here who can use his ring to create literally anything, he beats you in that apartment"
Hawkman: "I can come back to life after death!"
Green Lantern: "As a totally different person burdened with inexperience and cursed with madness of previous life, like that is useful"
Batman: "You also don't have any cool supervillains"

To be honest, reincarnation is a pretty sweet power. Even if you have to relearn how to stand and then walk and then a couple other things.
Honestly, I think that Hawkgirl is just far better than Hawkman. She can do everything he can while having very clear and obvious personality. This allows her to stand out as a unique character but also interact differently with other heros. Hawkman doesn't really have a personality or purpose, he's just kinda there
I really liked Hawkgirl in JL & JLU.

All I've really seen of Hawkman is from Legends of Tomorrow as well as several animated appearances
Whenever I see him, he's just a block of wood, whereas Hawkgirl always has something interesting to contribute
I don't really have anything against him though so if they make him dope in Black Adam, I'd be pretty thrilled

Luke Skywalker is a my favourite Star Wars character because he has so many flaws and strengths. He is genuinely engaging because he has a well defined personality. He is caring and compassionate but is also tempted by his anger
Rey (Who is a woman) is one of my least favourite characters because she has no notable personality or flaws, she is good for the sake of being good
This my exact reasoning for liking Hawkgirl over Hawkman. She feels real because she is well defined by her personality and flaws. She is strong and confident, but is a total rage fueled monster at times. This causes her to make mistakes
Hawkman doesn't really have much of anything. I've seen him several times in several mediums and I couldn't tell you the first thing about him
Tldr. Hawkgirl is actually a good wellrounded character, Hawkman is not and that's why I prefer Hawkgirl

fun fact: Hawkman has a weapon called "the claw of Horus" which is made of nth metal allowing it to harness the earths gravitational field. as Hawkman explains "essentially, I just hit you with the planet." also due to his usage of nth metal he basically has a healing factor as long as he's wearing his armor. the guy's a secret badass and is way underrated.

I did become a fan of Hawkman thanks to the 2018 series, wherein he demonstrated he's also super smart, a great historian and scholar, has super strength and if he isn't killed for reincarnation is effectively immortal. He survives a train wreck while he's inside it at one point.
However, most writers don't know what to do with him most of the time, so he's just "the flying guy with medieval weapons" most of the time. Which makes me sad.
(He also really only has three rogues of note: Gentleman Ghost, Hath-Set and Shadow-Thief. Apparently his gallery also includes: White Dragon, a white supremacist villain; the Manhawks, basically his version of Manbat; and Bloque, a superpowered hitman. At least it's better than Mister V from Martian Manhunter's rogues gallery)

Lion Mane is another one of his big villains, he got a namedrop in a Pay Day commerical awhile back as his nemesis. You could argue Kite Man and Copperhead too. Not well, but you could argue they're his villains too.
@@davidhong1934 They altered Gentleman Ghost's backstory in that episode. Originally, he was Hawkman's foe since a previous version of Hawkman was responsible for his execution. In the episode, they simply crossed out "Hawkman" and wrote "Batman".

A reporter interviews Hawkman and talks about how his nemesis, Lion Mane, calls Hawkman eating the Pay Day an unfair advantage. And Hawkman is visibly shaken by this, acting as if he were a teenage girl asking about a boy.

When Green Lantern called out Hawkman for using a mace, why did Hawkman not mention Batman throwing blades and explosives at people, Aquaman stabbing people with a giant fork, Wonder Woman using a sword sometimes, and Superman shooting people with lasers?

@@jackmist Bane's venom isn't far off from Captain America's Super Soldier Serum or Ant-Man's Pym Particles. Ant-Man originally used them in pill form in the comics. As for Killer Croc, that's like saying that Marvel's Mutants don't have superpowers because they were born with them!

I was introduced to Hawkgirl before Hawkman, in the early 2000's Justice League cartoon, and I actually liked her more than Wonder Woman. Underrated hotness is a legit super power.

i think hawkman is pretty interesting. he has a variation of origin stories but the mantle is held by the same guy, Nth metal became a sewn in piece to most if not every major story line after it was introduced, and his constant cycle of rebirth and struggle with love and reincarnation is pretty cool too. i just realized i explained this seriously on a meme, dear god what is wrong with me
I almost feel bad for Hawkman, considering he’s always overshadowed by Hawkgirl and his only actual villain is also a JL villain (Vandall Savage).
He’s everywhere but there is never any thing that he actually plays a proper part in.
Let’s hope the Black Adam movie helps shed light on this obscure yet mainstream character.
To be fair "obscure yet mainstream character" is like 99% of superheroes before the MCU became big. I would say mainstream only Spider-Man, Superman and Batman were widely known to the public back then. You could even argue for Wonder Woman before her movie that the most people knew about her was, "woman" and her arch enemy is a cheetah thing.

My favorite Hawkman anecdote is that Grant Morrison was forbidden from including Hakwman in there JLA relaunch due to how confusing his continuity is. And thus Zauriel a more compelling character was created .

In the movie injustice hawkman was killed by amazo and nothing was done to even remember him. In fact, after his death and the defeat if amazo Batman kissed Catwoman as if everything was ok and no losses were incurred
to answer flash's question at the end I think Aquaman just leaves a mouth full of ocean water in his mouth when he leaves the land so we can still breathe that would explain why it sounds like he's gargling when he talks

He has superhuman abilities and the fish thing is just one of his powers.

Everyone mocks Aquaman in Superfriends for only being able to swim, breathe underwater and talk to fish but they forget that all Hawkman in Superfriends could do was fly

He also has extreme regeneration.

Y'know, even if Hawkman isn't as powerful as a lot of the other heroes that dosen't mean he's useless. A lot of heroes like Superman as such are fighting off these giant threats constantly, so they don't always have time for the smaller crimes and issues. Having someone who can take care of those smaller issues is a big deal.
