Aquaman has thick skin and the jokes from his teammates are from a place of friendship and appreciation. Hawkman is the asshole with the bruised ego that needs somebody to look down on and the team isn't having it.
Hawkman has the ability to fly, enhanced strength to some degree, near instant healing of wounds, and some iterations of him gave him the ability to talk to birds, power to move large objects with anti gravity, and detect radiation. A support hero maybe, but he was always kind of a specialist that could do things the others could not. What he lacked in the extremes of superman, he made up for in some diverse skill sets. Also, he is a bird guy. That is neat.
Flying, superhuman strength, instant healing , telepathy or communication ability. That's sounds what Aquaman and MM does. Justice League already has two founding members who does it all why would they need another.
The idea of the team playfully making fun of Aquaman and him taking it on The chin knowing that it’s coming from a place of love is such an adorable idea to me

Hawkman is such an enigma. I've seen him in so many DC related stuff including shows, games, and comic book appearances and still know next to nothing about him. He's always just sorta... there...
He has a billion different origins, and not like the Blue Beetle, where it's different people He has many origins in the mainline canon associated with the same person
As someone who actually likes superheroes, these videos usually end up just making me more interested in genuinely learning about a character. Hawkman is someone who I've always seen on the Justice League and then never really cared enough to look into.
Then Solid JJ's skills as a writer would be wetted by Adult Swim's interference. Adult Swim isn't the end all be all of comedic animation it's fans make it out to be, with most of it's best properties having already, or are in the process of concluding. Or have peaked in quality.

@@AxleTrade I would still put Wonder Woman second. Flash can be straight up broken as well. But Aquaman is also powerful in his own right. He can easily 1v1 and beat any of the iconic Marvel heroes except Thor and Hulk. And even then, he can put up a good fight against Hulk underwater
@@LorianandLothric I don't know about that one, in some versions Hulk is just straight up immortal with super regeneration and durability and capable of planet busting. Honestly the only iconic marvel heroes he would probably beat are Captain America, Hawkeye (who might just straight up kill him immediately if he gets a shot), or Black Widow (same as hawkeye except guaranteed to try to kill). what the heck is he gonna do to Iron Man, who doesn't even hesitate to go straight for the kill on occasions, with his multi-million dollar technologies of mass destruction. He's literally a walking nuke with several PhDs.
This gets even funnier when you realize that Hawkgirl completely outshines Hawkman in the DC universe. Normally they'd have a male hero with a female counterpart (batgirl, supergirl, aquagirl, ect.) that feels like an offshoot of them; but in this case you've got Hawkgirl taking the center stage while Hawkman comes off as a male offshoot of HER.
Jesus Christ is lord. Please, take your salvation seriously. Read three books of the Bible at least. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself. As you do practice forgiveness. That is important. To be forgiven we must forgive. It is mandatory.
What made Hawkman a reliable member of the team was the fact, apart from flight, above average strength and long winded reincarnation, his enth metal mace could combat magic, something even superman is vulnerable too, and him having skill in knowing out to fight with his mace gives him a leg up against magical villains
Resurrection and reincarnation really isn't anything special in DC and marvel more so in DC since you literally have a guy who main shitck is dying and coming back to life every week
For those who know nothing about Hawkman or are curious as to what he contributes: Back in the 60s and 70s, the JLA’s satellite was built using mostly Thanagarian technology, including teleporters, invisibility devices, radiometers, and anti-gravity devices in ships and flying cars. He was also the chief intelligence member of the team, being able to communicate with birds which could witness crimes and trail criminals, and often took most of monitor duty, the role Martian Manhunter took in the Justice League show (in the 60s, J’onn was essentially a backup Superman). He even had a global mind-reading device that he only used in emergency to learn the identities of his teammates so that they could assemble during a ban on heroes. Personality-wise, he was stoic and professional, which led to him often butting heads with the loud-mouthed cynical Green Arrow. He was best friends with the Atom, who he would call on the phone to bring to meetings since the Atom can travel through phone lines. He also often vouched for his wife, Hawkgirl, by bringing her along on adventures, insisting that Superman change the bylaws to allow her on the team, and taking time away from the team when she needed help.
I like that Aquaman doesn't actually have any reactions to the jokes until Hawkman insults him, and then Aquaman just looks at him like "Dude, really?" And then at the end, when the team was apologizing, Aquaman was just like "it's all good" with a big smile to show he was a good sport about the humor. He seemed to understand they were just joking around with him, but glares at Hawkman since he could see Hawkman didn't understand it was a joke. SolidJJ needs to write his own cartoon or something. He's awesome at this.
Aquaman only cares about helping people in his own way, if he's not generally regarded as "cool" or "powerful" he dosen't mind. He knows he's useful but he also know that his main identity power a bit of a gimmick with limitation but still very helpful. If people have fun with that then whatever. He is unironically a true chad. He is secure in what he can do and know it helps and that what matters. but while he's ok with being the "shaggy" of the group. The important member that's also a bit comedic on the outlook. He won't tolerate nor reduce himself to other people sincere disrespect. Menawhile hawkman is scrambling for approval and to prove him himself. He is not secure in how he goes about helping people. Probably has something to do with the guilt of the dead on his mind.
Making your own show is a whole different ballpark than what he is doing here, he could definitely write for a pre-established show, and maybe work up to writing his own show.

Honestly I don't blame them for ganging up on Hawkman. When Batman made a joke about Nemo, it was light hearted banter and the rest actually found it funny. Hawkman on the other hand went in and called Aquaman a "stupid idiot bastard" which is just straight up bullying that the others obviously didn't find funny So yeah, Hawkman deserved that
It's possible, at least in this parody, that Hawkman genuinely can't tell the difference between a lighthearted joke and bullying. Maybe he's socially inept. Maybe to him, the light hearted joke sounds just as mean as outright bullying. The others all have a good laugh at it, so Hawkman thinks that's ok. And since he can't tell the difference, to him, his add on is ok too. I mean, it's the sort of mistake i would make. It barely even registered to me how mean Hawkman's insult was. So maybe he's not trying to be mean, maybe he's just trying to fit in. Or maybe. Just maybe. Maybe one or both of us is putting too much thought into this
And then turned around at the end like, "Why are we always picking each other apart?" Seemed like you were fine with it when you weren't the target, bird boy. 😒
If Hawkman was written properly, it would show that he's the most experienced member of the team. Not just because he was on the JSA but because he literally has thousand of years of experience. He should be figuring out villain's plans faster than the others and setting up counters before he executes them. Having Batman having a plan for every eventuality is sort of silly he's a relative noob and wisdom takes time. He could guide the team when they travel to the past because he lived through many eras. If they weren't in one of his past cities he might have contacts to heroes of that era there.
@@DiegoErnestoTejadaZaldivar his origin has been unclear for so long whether if he was some kind of hawk alien from thanagar or the reincarnation of some egyptian prince guy so dc with their most recent hawkman run decided to just make it so "all of it is the right origin, it's just a bunch of reincarnations" he can be reincarnated at any point in time, past, present, or future even made him an ancient kryptonian in one of his past lives (or future lives in the past because that can apparently happen) so yeah real comic booky stuff
The sad thing (to me here) is really really could have spun the reincarnation power into being useful. Where he points out that Batman or somebody trained for twenty to thirty years and has that much experience but Hawkman keeps getting new experience and training and remembers the countless Prior ones to have hundreds of years of experience
Depends on how that experience actually manifest into action Batman mastered hand to hand combat in lets say 20 or 30 years and thats all he needs to be effective at it 200 more years is unnecessary
Yet somehow in experience in fighting and stuff he still somehow loses to batman sometimes. And he doesn't have a lot of abilities batman has and batman has had way less time then him. I think Hawk man has bad time management with all that time but not knowing as many skills as batman and also his main skills are comparable to batman. He isn't really training up his skills every life time but after he learned his skills he just uses it and it naturally got better while Bruce actively trained his stuff and got that good that fast so if he did as much as batman in everylife then he'd be way better then batman and way smarter too then it'd be a question on why Bruce is on the team when hawkman is way better and has actual powers and batmans one power of being rich he also has so hawkman would be the one who's there with a supervillain and questioning what batman is doing for the team
Well it was never meant to be a power. It's backstory. But you're right, hawkman is known for being proficient with any weapon, science, and tactics in general. Plus being a detective himself.
No but really, I get that the joke is that Aquaman is lame but I like to think that the JL acknowledge and actually respect him because he covers a large specialty that none of the other heroes can cover as well as he can. The ocean is 2/3's of the world and Aqua keeps track of all that, so while its funny to poke at him sometimes because he's not as useful on land as he is in the water, he's still a very core member to a group that wants to protect the *entire* world.
@@InfernosReaper facts like superman can go into space but the bottom of the ocean is much more pressurized so aquaman gotta have some really dense skin literally lol
Finally someone mentions the mace. I remember Hawk Girl knocking people out with that thing, but there’s spikes, so it looks a lot less gorey than it should. I always wondered if she had some hidden field or power that stopped the spikes from piercing, why the flipping mace then.
Hawkman makes sense to use it, his reincarnation powers means that he lived many different eras and so it's reasonable that he probably mastered the mace but... Not sure about hawkgirl.
The answer to "what he contributes" is basically "magic mace that stop magic good". So, in summary, the single most transferable trait possible of "I have this one weapon" is his only reason to be on the team other than a need for extra flying people.
You know Green Lantern’s got a point. Being hit with Hawkman’s mace is like being hit with a planet. Also in modern comics Hawkman can “reincarnate immediately” which means he is pretty much Wolverine.
@@mightybeastofbengal Kinda, except now it’s more like what Flash described. He gets knocked down, and gets right back up. Some modern versions have him reincarnate as a completely new appearance/person, except he stays in his prime age and maintains his memories, so it’s really just a style choice.
Well to quote from Peacemaker: "If you're a hero why don't you have any arch-nemesis?" "Cause all of them are six-feed under" Hawkman has a point there
I mean 2 of his big villains are a guy who also reincarnates, and a literal ghost. The third big one is also just a shadow. Killing them isn't exactly a feasible thing.

Yeah, but Batman doesn’t use the Batarang to harm, he usually uses it to knock things out of people’s hand or destroy something, not directly at someone’s head. And even if he does like in the games, they are clearly not sharp enough to pierce skin
I love the idea of the Justice League or "Super Friends" being total BROS with each other, making fun of each other but still being true friends at the end of the day.
You know you're a lame character when your female counterpart, who was created after you and almost no one knew about until she took your place in a tv show, is SIGNIFICANTLY more popular buy an incalculable margin
Yeah. When I first got this video randomly recommended to me I was like "hawkman? There's a hawkMAN!? I thought the Justice League had a Hawkwoman...". So, y'know, it made the video better because I also didn't remember him.. actually, I didn't knew he existed, but same thing :v
I mean this argument can b said abt a lot of things. When ur DC and u want representation ur going to either make a character u alrdy have shine in the spotlight or make a new character and I prefer the first option. Ofc this does make bigger problems like Hal Jordan v John Stewart cuz every1 loves both of them but storyboard writers keep trying to make the other one up each other in founding position in the JL. This case is Hawkgirl v Hawkman and uhhhhh there arent many females on the team; albeit I think the option was adding any1 for the 7th spot and they rlly wanted a female so my argument is kinda in vain so it was never abt adding a bird person to the team they just wanted a girl
Given how Hawkgirl is in comics. It's less so that Hawkman is lame in comparison than it is that the Justice League cartoon actually bothered to take those characters and actually give them a coherent, easy to follow background and story that is of good quality. Secret alien agent who infiltrates Earth to gather Intel and prepare for conquest who grows attached to her comrades and the world she has defended only forced to betray her friends, betray her species to do what she believes is right and goes under self exile for her guilt is far more compelling than what they got in the comics.
“You’re hitting people with medieval weaponry.” Okay, Lantern, that’s kinda unfair considering we have Batman over here with razor-sharp boomerangs that could easily kill someone just as easily.
The basic batarang is just a boomerang, which as a weapon existed throughout history pretty much alongside the mace as a weapon if not predating it. If you call a mace archaic and obsolete, you’d have to call the batarang the same thing. As for Batman basically being a ninja, though, that’s a good point. But how do we know that Hawkman doesn’t train himself to do the same thing and make sure he doesn’t fatally injure a person?
@@justin2308 well the batarang is pretty versatile. It could he used for just about almost any situation. I mean, he can be able to use it for non lethal situations like disarming a guy, cutting rope. His weapons can potentially be lethal but with his training he can turn his bat shaped ninja throwing stars into a tool for pacification instead of death. (And also he had to like dump out possibly a million dollars to custom make those things.) The mace however is pretty much lethal in every sense of the word. The mace had been specifically made to ruin some poor schmuck's day. Not only is hawkman's the typical big ball with spikes all over it but with his strength and warrior mentality. He is well sorted for something as war instead of being a hero.
This is straight out of the comics. There was a point where Hawkman would show up and start going nuts murdering things with his mace, and of the other heroes would ask who invited him. I don’t remember what comic it was in, I think it was around the beginning of flashpoint.
@@yodorr6249 flashpoint was a crossover event that reset the universe and started the New 52. He's kind of like Angel from the X-Men. No one knows what to do with him either. He got turned into one of Apocalypse's horse men but I don't think his story went much further than that.
This is rather heartwarming, actually. Aquaman just doing his job (and memes influenced by the Superfriends cartoon aside, he *is* a powerful superhero), and other members of the team really noticing and appreciating that... it's just nice. As silly as Solid jj's videos are, they are always weirdly in character for whoever features in them. I'd feel more sorry for Hawkman if not for the implication that he clubs petty criminals to death. Y'know, almost immediately after mentioning he stopped a *purse snatcher* he reasons that there's nothing wrong with taking out his enemies permanently. Not a great look, dude. (not to mention, immediately going to "you stupid idiot bastard" is not exactly on the same level as relatively good-natured jokes about Aquaman.)
I feel like he should rebrand. I think the name ''Aquaman" is holding him back. It sounds lame. Maybe something more bad ass, like "Aquarion", "Ocean Master" or "Sea Lord". Even just his name, "King Arthur" sounds better.
There was a point in time where Hawkman and Hawkgirl were merged into one being to fix continuity errors in the DC universe... They fumbled that so much that writers didn't want to use him due to how complicated they made their history.
I kinda like the interpretation that Aquaman is actually competent and an integral part of the team, but they call him useless as a light-hearted inside joke Edit: I am well aware Aquaman is actually super powerful and a very successful superhero in the comics, but in these sorts of parodies he's not, and that's what I'm commenting on
Aquaman is my Dad's Favorite Hero, he's unaware why everyone hates on him haha. I always tell him it's because of an old children's show he did (Aquaman and friends), he got bad rep from it. Although I'm not aware of the true reason behind the meme.
You know, to me, Hawkman is the first thing I think when someone says superhero. He's strong, he can fly, he has a weapon that is not a gun, he has some sort of animal thing going on. He's every superhero ever distilled into one. But also he's an ancient egyptian pharaoh that might have been an alien that reincarnates across space and time and universes
@@Blueberryyymuffin Basically, except he doesn't have a brand new body, his soul just gets transferred to one of his ancestors and he retains his memories, which he uses to find Hawkgirl (who doesn't have her memories) and sleep with her before his ancient servant that also reincarnates kills them and starts the cycle over again

Tell me that there aren't legions of people willing to kiss Elon M.'s butt for a small chance he will be interested in them. Being rich IS a superpower.
Hawk man is sorta used for very specific threats. In recent years he’s mostly used for things relating to “Inth metal” but yeah he’s really meant for ancient threats since he’s immortal. Aqua man however as I’ve always said is just specialized for the ocean. Which is 99% of the worlds livable space. It’s filled with pirates and has its own group of villains. Plus Aqua-man has an army and a kingdom on top of actually pretty substantial powers. Having him on your side is like having a tank with aquakenesis and an army.
Don't forget Aquaman can control most land animals as well, and can even use blood as a weapon and source of rehydration. Heck, he's even got heavily resistant skin and super strength akin to Wonder Woman. Sure, he's got a huge weakness to extreme heat and Cold winds, but like, he's pretty freaking capable as long as he stays hydrated.
To be fair ancient, magical evils trying to bring about an apocalypse are shockingly common events in the DC universe/multiverse...so he's got plenty to work on.

Funnily enough I think this was pointed out to be the case for Wonder Woman, since she doesn't have the "no killing" rule Superman or Batman have. A lot of her enemies will end up being Gods or people she can't kill easily... But when she deals with someone she *deals* with them.
Even while Aquaman is on the surface, he still has super-human strength, just like Superman. It also makes sense that he'd be that strong considering that he lives in a city at the bottom of the ocean which is under a lot of pressure. Only the strongest would be able to survive the amount of pressure down there.
All the fish at the bottom of the ocean, when brought up to land, start falling apart because they're used to the high density. It's like the lack of density is tearing them apart. So realistically being in high pressure would make Aquaman weaker on land
Here's the thing about brutally efficient super heroes. It's all cool till you realize there is a super powered serial killer obliterating petty criminals' heads
Ironically, Hawkman probably has the most broken ability. Reincarnated knowledge, he literally can retain learned info in a past life, meaning as long as he goes out of his way to learn as many things as possible, he acts in a similar way to a book of knowledge; he could've read every book in the library of Alexandria and retell them for future generations. By far a much more important power then lets say, hitting someone really hard or like, flying or something
Yeah when Hawkman is written well he's a badass Warrior poet type who has literal near endless experience on the battlefield and has lived so many lives he's amassed a ton of knowledge and philosophy. Like sure he's not as strong as some of the other Leaguers but his sheer experience and fighting skill lets him keep up with most anyone.
I can't get over how Hawkman sounds so much like SwaggerSouls. I think the "next" time Hawkman shows up in an episode you should have him guest star and see how many people notice
Green lantern: "noo, you cant just use a mace against villains!" Aquaman: *impales random thug with trident* Green arrow: *shoots arrow through the bad guy's brains*
The issue they have with his mace is not that it's not effective it's that it's not heroe-y. That's why you don't have heroes with guns. My superpower is that I can shoot you in the head with my .45 magnum just doesn't work. There is Hawkeye with his bow, but his power is super-accuracy. And I guess Iron man has a lot of weapons but they're sci-fi and part of his costume so it works too. Even a magic (or even better holy) sword would work with the proper back story. A mace on the other hand is just odd.
Ah, c'mon guys. Hawkman has given a lot to the DC universe. He was one of the original heroes of the golden age, founding member of the Justice Society (first super-team in comics), Hawkgirl, one of the most confusing character histories of comic books. And you can't forget his many classic villains like Gentleman Ghost and The Shade and Gentleman Ghost.. and The Shade and.. Gentleman Ghost! And he has a *mace!*
In defense of Aquaman. He has superhuman strength (whilst Hawkman has... "slightly enhanced physical strength") He has a somewhat recognizable rouges gallery (with some fan favorites) He's a king Joke about his ocean only problems all you want, but in the event that something happens in the big blue he'd actually be pretty useful
He has the largest army in the world, rules the most territory, has a smoking hot wife, and is the last person in the world who could get away with calling people "Landlubbers". I doubt he cares too much about what other people thing.
Given that the ocean has the majority of the earth’s surface/biosphere but basically a handful of superheroes, aquamans probably foiling tons of world domination schemes that the rest of the league can’t even hope to witness
The way he makes Hawkman start stuttering and murmuring hard when try to tell Superman what he did that week as a hero is hilarious because it’s showing that the more he kept going into detail he started losing confidence unlike in the beginning when he said IM A FOUNDING MEMBER CMON and that he starts slowly realizing the more he talks the more he realizes how shitty he is
Fun Fact: Hawkman was one of the few DC hero's who was around every since the days of the Justice Society of America. He was literally created in the 1940s. That's almost as old as Superman. And yet people know little to nothing about him. I mean for god sake, the only modern day members of the Justice League who are as old as Hawk Man are Batman and Superman. And Wonder Woman who was created one year later. And yet people know nothing about him.
Fun Fact: Hawkman's (and conversely, Hawkgirl)'s characters have had massive retcon's throughout history. For those who know nothing about Hawkman or are curious as to what he contributes:
Back in the 60s and 70s, the JLA’s satellite was built using mostly Thanagarian technology, including teleporters, invisibility devices, radiometers, and anti-gravity devices in ships and flying cars.
He also often vouched for his wife, Hawkgirl, by bringing her along on adventures, insisting that Superman change the bylaws to allow her on the team, and taking time away from the team when she needed help.

whether if he was some kind of hawk alien from thanagar
or the reincarnation of some egyptian prince guy

"all of it is the right origin, it's just a bunch of reincarnations"

even made him an ancient kryptonian in one of his past lives (or future lives in the past because that can apparently happen)
so

Explanation pls
Elaborate, I’m scared
The sad thing (to me here) is really really could have spun the reincarnation power into being useful. Where he points out that Batman or somebody trained for twenty to thirty years and has that much experience but Hawkman keeps getting new experience and training and remembers the countless Prior ones to have hundreds of years of experience
Yea but somehow he’s still doing the same thing for hundreds of years… at least Batman is rich.
Depends on how that experience actually manifest into action
Batman mastered hand to hand combat in lets say 20 or 30 years and thats all he needs to be effective at it
200 more years is unnecessary

@@YeetFeet-vh8xz Hawkgirl also reincarnates, so she has that experience too.

Also the dude's a ninja. He can throw those boomerangs with enough ease that it would never fatally kill a man in an intentional way
The basic batarang is just a boomerang, which as a weapon existed throughout history pretty much alongside the mace as a weapon if not predating it.
(And also he had to like dump out possibly a million dollars to custom make those things.)
The mace however is pretty much lethal in every sense of the word. The mace had been specifically made to ruin some poor schmuck's day. Not only is hawkman's the typical big ball with spikes all over it but with his strength and warrior mentality. He is well sorted for something as war instead of being a hero.
@@TheUncivilizedNation The mace is not obsolete considering WW uses a sword and GL can make medieval weapons too.
This is straight out of the comics. There was a point where Hawkman would show up and start going nuts murdering things with his mace, and of the other heroes would ask who invited him. I don’t remember what comic it was in, I think it was around the beginning of flashpoint.

Ironically, the one talking about being friends was the one who was not a friend.
I dunno, doesn't feel like friendly ribbing most of the time, and even then just because he doesn't say anything or ""takes it"" doesn't mean he likes it.
Well they should be buds with Hawkman as well. Just because he isn’t as cool or as popular as they are doesn’t mean he’s not worthy of being their friend (nor does it mean he should be treated like shit).

Yeah Aquaman deserved the apology. A misunderstood hero. Hawkman though...
All the fish at the bottom of the ocean, when brought up to land, start falling apart because they're used to the high density. It's like the lack of density is tearing them apart. So realistically being in high pressure would make Aquaman weaker on land

There is Hawkeye with his bow, but his power is super-accuracy. And I guess Iron man has a lot of weapons but they're sci-fi and part of his costume so it works too. Even a magic (or even better holy) sword would work with the proper back story. A mace on the other hand is just odd.
