Many thanks for doing this. I listen to Tony Joe White live version with headphones. The bass and drums are so tight it’s amazing. And Tony Joe is killing it on that strat.
@@harryw9598 Hey to you guys commenting here, a few yrs back I saw John Fogerty at Riveredge Park in Aurora,il. Hot summer night, full moon reflecting on the surface of the Fox River. With J C and family picking on a Les Paul goldtop! Perfect night that don't get anymore American then that! Shout out to Pops Staples, too. He had that E thing goin' on for sure, real subtle, real cool. God bless you guys, stay safe

James this video lesson of Polka Salad Annie is the best I've seen, thank you,I've been trying to find someone whom can actually show how its done, brilliant
I have to say, I grew up listening to the standard hits, mainly Zeppelin and The Who. But you’re introducing me to some really cool music. Great playing as always.
Cool-saw TJW in a small club in Manchester (UK)in 2016-just him and a drummer .Maybe 200 people there-mesmeric-glad I saw him before he left us.Classic simple but so effective song writing and guitar playing.
Great song, thanks for this lesson and insight format of the vid. Love all the versions: Tony Joe White, Elvis, loved hearing James Burton's instrumental version in "Ford v. Ferrari" too!
Awesome lesson, Thanks! The first time I heard the song Tunica Motel by Tony Joe White was in the early 90's when Mark Collie covered it while opening up for Tracy Byrd and that's when I learned about Tony Joe White Mark Collie CD Tennessee Plates track 8 Tunica Motel
Another killer lesson JJ! Almost every video on UA-cam of this song has the title wrong. It is actually Poke Sallet Annie, not Polk Salad. Poke Sallet comes from the Pokeweed plant. Almost all parts (especially the roots) are highly toxic. To properly prepare/cook the plant to be edible is tricky. You must boil it, drain and rinse, boil it again, drain and rinse again, and do it once more before it can be consumed by humans. It kind of tastes like collard greens. The pokeweed plant also has berries that if touched by hands can seep into your bloodstream and make you very ill. The reason I know this is pokeweed was all over one section of my mothers yard and I would do her yardwork for her when she was alive. After I made a trip to the hospital once extremely ill after doing her yardwork, I researched this heavily.
I’m completely with you on the ‘slow swampy’ version. I attempted this song on my channel but could never come close to replicating the attitude TJW put into his version.
Hello JJ. I lost you On youtube and by accident I found your last PT video in which you explained, well you know. But so glad you went on as James James. You taught me a lot. Keep on going👍🏼👍🏼🎸 greetz from The Netherlands , Anton Jeli Jansen
Hey James have you ever had Poke Salat aka Pokeweed, Polk Salad? Its great! We cook it here twice in boiling water then pan fry it a bit with onions, salt n pepper! Great stuff!
I’m pickin’ a mean mess of this! Hehe, lawd have mercy! I was thinking thinking the other day while I was learning this fave of tune- man, that would would be cool if JJ would have a lesson of TJW’s Polk Salad Annie. Here it is! Thank you! 👍✌️
Man I don’t know what it is about your videos, but I swear I learn more from you in 5 minutes than I’ve ever learned from these so called “subscription sites” you really make learning an enjoyable experience.....I’m gonna really enjoy learning this on my new guitar, which is an EASTMAN SB59 which is a VERY HIGH END Japanese version of a les paul style guitar exept with eastman you get a guitar as good as a gibson R9 or even better for one quarter of the price so an R9 is in your money around $6500 well my guitar cost in your money $2200 and when I say it’s as good you guys need to check eastman out the fretwork is par exellance.
thanks j j for the entertainingly informative accurate portrayal of digits plucking most excellent sounds from wound wires stretched over rosewood and lead !! please answer one question.... since you have a limit of guitars that you keep, do you have a limit of seriously cool shirts also? i have lost count. ..... a warehouse perhaps ?
Love the lesson man. I have a boss katana amp and use a Les Paul. I was wondering if you could recommend some settings to get this guitar tone like you have in the video.
Well, the ES 345 has a VariTone knob, which gives out-of-phase tones. It's hard to get that honk without that knob. I guess you could compress a wah pedal halfway down and just leave it there.
Cool shirt. Where did u get it. I ask because as a kid I use to play basketball against Graham and the team on Tuesday nights. I was 15 or 16. And those Fillmore guys wore similar shirts. As a team we where kids and they played pretty dirty. Always got our asses kicked. So cool shirt. And great memories
@@jamesjames9275 Safe to say not the reply I was anticipating :) Looks to be a professional effort by your wife...and a lucrative sideline if she ever needed one :)
Sounded great on your 335! Of course I had to go back to one of TJW's performances. Since you can't listen to this song just once. Did you have a lit cigarette on your guitar string at the tuner? And we can't tell, were you sporting sideburns down to your shoulder blades?
Elvis has left the building! Thank you for teaching this classic!
Nailed all the classic TJW fills...so clearly broken down....Grateful thanks

Another great song & another great lesson. TJW was one of my favourites. RIP.
James you keep amazing me with your lessons definitely for intermediate standard but giving space for individual expression
That is one of the most informative videos I’ve seen. So easy to follow.
Great song. Thanks. I saw TJW play this at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival in September '69.
Whoa, great show: Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Doors, John Lennon (with Clapton)...
Another neat lesson, and another great song, thank you

Gonna call it a tie with "Amos Moses." (Hint, hint, J.J.!)

I love this. It's rimless. I hear it alot in Panama city beach
This a such a cool song. It’s a must learn! Thx James! CANADA🇨🇦
TJW was one of my favourite songwriters & performers. Thanks for teaching what I think is one of his best songs :)
Great lesson. It's the only Elvis-performed song that ever made a lasting impression on me.

Pick the Open G string and hammer down onto the first fret. Then, pick the open high E string. Then on the B string pic the third fret.
What kind of guitar are you playing? It's a beauty!
