  • Welcome to Pulambeet All Abilities Play Space - our new inclusive, state of the art play space at the Portland Foreshore.
The play space includes several unique artworks which pay homage to the Gunditjmara Six Seasons. The Six Seasons aren’t set by certain dates, rather by natural indicators:
    • The big dry is when the swamps and waterholes dry out and tubers are harvested, as reflected in the Basalt rock sculpture with a turtle burying itself in the mud.
    • The early wet is the time to burn country for regeneration and cleaning out, as depicted in the tall timber cockatoo sculpture.
    • The big wet has heavy rains and the brolgas begin to dance, looking for a mate. The timber brolga sculpture at the edge of the play space represents this season.
    • Flowering time tells us the eels are swimming upstream and the bees are pollinating, as reflected in the towering timber bee sculpture.
    • Fattening up time is when yams are harvested, Ballart begins to fruit and the grass thickens up. A nature play Basalt rock bowl at the southern end of the play space demonstrates this season.
    • Drying out time begins when its starts to warm up and the blue tongue lizard soaks up the sun. A blue tongue lizard sculpture situated in the heart of the play space indicates this Season.
The play space is one of the only purpose-designed spaces in the region where children of all abilities can play, learn and socialise.
The space is also ideally situated next to the Changing Places Facility, the only facility west of Ballarat providing fully accessible public toilets to meet the needs of people with complex disabilities.
We hope the Pulambeet All Abilities Play Space becomes a much-loved community facility, incorporating Gunditjmara Culture and providing a fun and inclusive space for all ages and all abilities.
