My husband takes a turkey sandwich for lunch everyday. Instead of buying high priced, processed high sodium deli turkey I buy a frozen turkey breast. After roasting it, the actual breast meat (minus the skin and bones) costs about $3.50/lb! He loves it!
I just made the bread! It is excellent-- exactly like Naan at th eIndian restaurant! I've tried many flatbreads but this one takes the cake. As it were. Thank you!
Frozen blackeyed peas, a little salt, a lot of water. Cook in the crockpot until they are mushy and the water has thickened. Can be a veg but I eat it as soup. Warm, cheap, filling. Ultimate comfort food. I have that yellow bowl, it is part of a set of four, red, blue, green and yellow. My grandfather brought them to my mama when I was very small.
Pasta sauce, I make a big batch and pressure can in pint jars. I use my Italian mother in law’s recipe……..she taught me so much about cooking Italian food…….yum!
I don't keep tahini in my house because of the cost, but I do keep sesame oil for Asian cooking. I substitute it for some of the olive oil in my hummus recipe and still get that nice roasted seed taste but at a much lower cost. Thanks for the inspiration to make my own pita bread....haven't tried it yet, but I will!
Cooking from scratch is why I created my own channel for family and friends. Homemade always tastes better than store bought and is easier than most people think. The recipes look great, we love hummus in this house. 🙂
I sometimes substitute cannellini beans for garbanzo and add cumin. Toasted oval sliced baguette disks, spread with bean hummus and topped with bruschetta-Yum!
One main dish that comes to mind I have homemade is Macaroni & Cheese. I use whole milk, I shred the Colby cheese and real butter. It doesn't taste good from.a box in comparison.
Rice-a-roni is never bought as the amount of broken spaghetti and rice needed to equal a boxprobably isn’t even 1 cent, and I control sodium and add the flavors we love!
I will make these…the bread looks amazing….I make my own sauce when I first got married I used jar sauce….and use to make instant potatoes never again homemade mashed are the best 😊❤️
Sloppy joe sauce, taco seasoning, crescent rolls, chocolate cake, ice tea, cinnamon rolls and applesauce are just a few of the foods that I make from scratch. You are so right, homemade is so much cheaper, healthier and tastier. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing your videos each week.
Chicken soup with Matzo balls. You can add in all the leftover veggies in your produce drawer and put in as much chicken as you want from a clear broth to a chicken stew. It warms you from the inside out. Throw some leftovers in the freezer and defrost them when you don’t feel well. I’m making your Sunday sauce right now. It’s become one of our favorites. I make a big batch and we eat it for a few meals ( it’s fabulous the next day!) then throw servings for 2 in the freezer and when I don’t feel like cooking I defrost them and change up the pasta throw some Mozzarella on top and stick it under the broiler and yum yum yum!
I make chicken soup, with vegetables with rice or potatoes or zucchini/yellow squash. Also, always make my own lentil soup. I make lots of soups from scratch. I'm going to be making the stovetop bread and hummus.
You came up in my feed, so I have watched a couple of your videos tonight, and really enjoyed them. I have just subscribed to see more. Glad I found you.
I have been making croutons, English muffin bread in the micro wave, Chex mix, pizza on rolls, iced tea, I have many MYO (make your own) in my computer. My next project is home made Phila pretzels. I made them years ago and will try again. We have the pretzel factory here but making your own is cheaper.
I'm a little unusual in that I prefer beef in the morning for breakfast, often with eggs - thanks to your video a few months ago saying that buying deli sliced is extremely expensive in comparison, I started buying a brisket of a couple lbs and making a pot of beef like in Marcella Hazan's Italian cookbook, slice it up whilst it's warm, reconstruct the brisket and keeping it in its broth for the week. I then use the broth and vegetables in other dishes I cook throughout the week with it so nothing is wasted. Saves me a pretty penny and is much more satisfying than store bought, so thank you for that encouragement! ❤️🙏
I make all my deserts from scratch homemade salsa, dressings, pancakes and waffles, seasonings, all my soups never buy salads like slaw and potato salads.croutons, bread crumbs just as much as I can I make myself. It saves so much money and tastes so much better.
I was taking home ec class in highschool in my rural hometown and my aunt's family from an urban area came to visit. I remembered them marveling at the homemade cake I'd made. They said it tasted better than "one from out of the box" and I didn't even know what they meant! This would have been in the 1960s and every food item we prepared was "from scratch" .
I make almost everything from scratch. We eat a lot of popcorn and always pop it ourselves. Never use the microwave kind. I do use a cake mix occasionally. I have also started making on a regular basis, salad dressings. So much better and way less expensive!
I recently bought a silicone popcorn popper for the microwave. I have been popping my own kernels - no added oil - in the microwave. So quick and easy. I add a light spritz of spray-type oil while it is hot and shake on a bit of popcorn salt. Tastes just like movie popcorn. I'll never buy bagged microwave popcorn again!
This video is saved for future reference! I'm definitely trying these two recipes; they look delicious. Due to food allergies, I've gone to what I call a cheater-vegan diet (I eat fish). Recently, I began making my own lentil/sweet potato veggie burgers, lentil breakfast sausages or "meatballs", and dairy-free butter, to name a few things. Not only does it save us money, but everything tastes much cleaner than the store-bought versions.
Many thanks, one dish I make from scratch is potato salad. Many thanks Paul & Emmy, surgery last Friday. Thanks for prayers! Keep em’ coming. Waving to you from Michigan
You can make your own tahini. I buy sesame seeds in bulk. Toast them and whirl them up in the processor. I have been leaving the olive oil out of my hummus and leaving the aquafaba in. Much healthier! 😊
In newfoundland, we call these toutons. Usually cooked with leftover bread dough after making homemade bread. We serve them traditionally with molasses :)
Yogurt! So much better from scratch! I just want to say how much I love watching your channel! Love that Paul gets in the videos and participates! Shows you do frugality together💕
Love the Bread recipe and can’t wait to try it! This may be redundant but I notice in the grocery store that people pile up deli meats, Pimento cheese, chicken salad, tuna salad and egg salad. We make our own on a rotating basis so we don’t get bored. The huge sales on whole turkeys in January were purchased to cook for a lot of sandwiches in early March and early April. In January and February we had ham from the spiral honeybaked ham that we had at Christmas. It froze well and became handy for sandwiches and quiche. Thank you Emmy and Paul for another great video. We are sweating on the beach down here today in Ocean Drive💙✝️😇🙏👏🏖😍❤️💐💜
The frozen turkeys on sale are fantastic! We just used our meat grinder to make ground turkey since beef prices are so high in our area. $13 for 23 lb turkey and we got almost 12 lbs of ground turkey plus I made broth. Double win🎉
Will do… It’s been hotter than normal… I washed my heavy bath mats yesterday. I put them out on the balcony and they dried in an hour. I wish UA-cam would let us put up pictures so you could see how beautiful the ocean 🌊 is (why can’t we put up photos in comments?) Hugs and blessings
Here's one thing I always make from scratch -- cocktail sauce. I like to dip my shrimp into a sauce with lots of horseradish, so I make my own. Simple. Just combine ketchup, horseradish and a few drops of Worcestershire sauce. I keep a jar of Inglehoffer brand creamy horseradish in my fridge at all times and use that. I often make my own tarter sauce too.
That bread looked amazing! I love the pockets that magically appeared. It would be perfect for my avocado, cheese and mushroom sandwiches. Also, I love how Dixie gets excited when Paul is taste-testing. I'm sure she wants to help out. LOL!
I make homemade soups….chili, vegetable, bean & chicken noodle. Then I can it. It is so much better than commercially canned soups. Love your videos & frugal ideas.
We grow a lot of our own produce here in northern Jersey so I never buy spaghetti sauce, apple sauce, we can our own veggies or freeze them depending on room available. I made zucchini bread, banana bread. I love to made as much good as I can from scratch. I think of it as pouring my love into it.
Hi Emmy and Paul. I make muffins from scratch. I have over 25 different receipies but banana, chocolate chips, blueberries, dates and nuts, pineapple and carrots and butterscotch chips are in great demand in this house...
Wow love that bread recipe, Will try! I won't buy premade tomato sauce or meatballs, I've been making my own since I was a pregnant young mom 31 years ago. Cheers!!! See ya Friday, need a Dixie fix please?!! Joni WNY
Good job on the hummus. We have been making it for the past six months since we got a Vitamix. We do more things with it than smoothies. The one thing that we make at home is a Broccoli and Cheese Soup. So many people plunk down a lot of money for those tiny little tubs that bear the name of a bread place on them. We wait until broccoli crowns are in sale and then we whip up the soup. Another favorite is cauliflower soup either with or without curry. You control the amount of sodium and there are never any artificial flavor or colors when you make it yourself.
I make a lot of homemade soups. Example, Vegetable Beef Barley Soup, Butternut Squash soup, Sausage soup, Chicken and wild rice soup and Taco soup. On the weekend, I usually clean the fridge out of vegetables and whip up something. On a Saturday when its chilly out, you want a nice warm bowl of soup to warm you up. with a nice slice of fresh bread or crackers. I cook just about everything from scratch and pack my lunch every day with what I make. AT times though during the week, I do get sick of cooking, so I will eat all the leftovers. and another way to clean out the fridge. Love watching your channel, thank you always for showing us so many wonderful things. Keep on posting!!
Hi Paul and Emmy, I make my own bread, pizza dough and just recently tried for the first time making my own crescent rolls. This weekend I’m attempting the Danish pastries that have jam or cream cheese in the small depression in the middle. I also make my own taco seasoning so I can control the sodium, and am looking into creating my own version of other seasoning blends. Most of my food is from scratch because of the added ingredients in processed foods. Can’t wait to try this no yeast bread recipe! Already make my own hummus!
It took me forever, but I finally subscribed. I just love the channel and all your frugal tips,. Most of all, I love your attitude about frugality. You have a very good quality of life and you do it all while being frugal. You two are certainly not living a life of deprivation.
Don't forget you can use any pulse to make hummus to ring the changes. I always make my frothy coffee instead of buying it - so much cheaper and much nicer I think xx
My own pizza dough and sauce. I refuse to buy premade biscuits ie Grands. I have an IP so I soak and cook my own dried beans. I will not purchase canned cream soup, as it is so easy to make from scratch. Ranch dressing packs are a thing of the past for me, I make my own! I also buy blocks of cheese and grate it at home. The shredded stuff has cellulose in it[wood fiber] in it.Thank you for encouraging people to cook from scratch. It just isn't that hard. My dinner for tonight is in my crockpot. How easy can it get?!
I bake my own muffins, bread, cookies, pies, cakes, desserts (instead of getting bakery ones), make homemade waffles and pancakes (instead of buying frozen), make homemade broths/stocks/sauces to save from buying canned, pizza dough, etc. I do most of my cooking from scratch and freeze it. I like making my own food. It almost always tastes better and I know what is in it.
I always look forward to your videos! They always encourage me in my frugal journey. Most of my baking is from scratch. I make cookies, biscuits, muffins and cake from scratch. My husband is a fabulous bread maker. Just a thought - have you & Paul considered tackling the subject of bartering? For example if you can’t or don’t want to paint your house, find someone who would be willing to paint in exchange for a skill you might have. Keep em comin’
Great recipes today. I make a similar bread my husband uses for wraps. The one thing I always make from scratch is spaghetti/marinara/pizza sauce. The jarred stuff always gives us bad heart burn and homemade does not. I think I have some big cans of tomatoes I need to use up, so time to make more sauce and put it in the freezer.
Your bread also reminds me of Navaho fry bread which I learned to make on my vacay to the Southwest last year. They do actually fry it in oil line corn fritters but they are huge! You cannot buy Navaho fry bread in the Southeast.
I make homemade pizza dough. We don’t even consider take out pizza anymore. I also can a lot of the things we grow or I get at the farmers market. We do pie fillings, jams, applesauce, pear sauce, salsa, green beans, diced tomatoes, pickles, peaches and whatever else we find. I think my family would refuse to eat “store bought” versions of them.
I also cook all of our meals from scratch. Some items I refuse to buy in the store is soup, chili or broth. I prefer to make my own from scratch. I also don’t buy premade rice (yes it’s actually sold in the freezer section). When I cook rice I double or triple the batch and then portion the leftovers into freezer bags. Great for when you need to make a fast meal that calls for rice. Especially if it’s brown rice which takes longer to cook.
I make all kinds of bread. Naan bread. flatbread. 6 grain bread. Dutch oven bread. There is something comforting and enjoyable in the bread making process. I will definitely try your recipe. Thanks!
Nothing beats like homemade from scratch you are so right. I make my own pickled beets for myself and my mum (dietary necessity), chunky applesauce and iced coffee/tea. Stay safe and blessed always
I make homemade: hummus (Cookie and Kate's recipe), ranch dressing, enchilada sauce, teriyaki sauce, protein balls, banana bread/ muffins, and barbecue sauce
Love these homemade recipes! Definitely going to try this with two jars of tahini in the fridge. I always make pancakes & pikelets from scratch. Scones, damper, French toast. Going to try making crumpets & muffins again. You don’t get the smell of homemade cooking when buying prepared food items.
I always make my own bread crumbs out of bread crusts. I do most of my own baking as far as cookies and sweets. But I'm not a good bread baker. Have a wonderful day Emmy and Paul.
I have a stockpile of bought pasta sauces, but I have started to make my own, more frequently. Made a batch of homemade earlier, to go in the freezer. Added lot's of vegetables (onions, courgettes, peppers and mushrooms) and blended until smooth. Tastes delicious. Not buying any more in the jar. Will definately try the bread recipe. 🙂
Since I retired I am on a quest to make everything I can from scratch. I get so excited when I have a new thing that I can say I never have to buy that again! Some of the things that I have started making are ketchup, barbecue sauce, salad dressings, bread.... And the list goes on:-) I still want to learn how to make mayonnaise I have not mastered that!
Mayonnaise is not that hard to make. Since we got chickens (and an abundance of eggs) we started making mayonnaise. It's actually pretty easy to make (but doesn't last as long in the fridge). Look it up!
This bread looks very similar to a product I used to buy called Ozery Bakery Morning Rounds. You can find them in many grocery stores. They have flavors such as cranberry orange and cinnamon raisin. You could easily make those flavors and more with this recipe! They freeze wonderfully and you just pop them in the toaster. Thanks Emmy and Paul for another winner!
Hi, I am enjoying your channel. There are lots of great tips. You and your husband seem so kind and smart. Just curious, do you happen to have a grocery outlet in your area?. It's a bargain market, and I go once a month, and I am able to buy most of my groceries there for the month It has really great deals.
Try canned bean tortillas for tacos. Just puree any canned bean to a thin pancake batter consistency. Add water if needed. Then fry up like a pancake. Black beans work good.
That looks awesome Emmy! Do you think you could substitute sour cream for the yogurt? I'm not a fan of yogurt and never buy it. I love hummus. Will make some soon. Have to get some tahini... I have a blender story for you. Didn't unplug and tried to clean my stick blender! Funny now, scary then! Lol! Still in the process of adjusting Bode's meds. He turns 12 on Thursday. Hugs from the Jersey boys!!! 🤗🐶
Great video it made me smile when Paul Tom a second bite and Dixie Belle wanted a piece. Well ever since I saw your recipe for Cole Slaw and made it, I cannot bring myself to purchase it in the store anymore. 😊
GREAT RECIPES!!!!!! Tomato gravy /sauce and meatballs, hummus, iced tea and instant mashed potatos are things I would NEVER buy. So accustomed to making them from scratch my whole life. Spent this snowy day in the kitchen and loved slowing down and just making all kinds of food today! LOVED YOUR VIDEO TODAY as always! Blessings to you both!
You have such pretty tablecloths. Carrot cupcakes, brownies, ccokies, sandwich spreads, lots of other things. Paul has to be the easiest man in the world to feed. LOL
I absolutely love your channel I stumbled across it and I can’t turn it off. I’ve watched many of your videos and I find them helpful and uplifting❤Thank you for your joyful hearts
Mac and cheese i never could understand why people buy the box stuff,. Its so easy to make and doesnt have all the junk in it
My husband takes a turkey sandwich for lunch everyday. Instead of buying high priced, processed high sodium deli turkey I buy a frozen turkey breast. After roasting it, the actual breast meat (minus the skin and bones) costs about $3.50/lb! He loves it!
So smart and even more delicious!
This channel is awesome 👏🏽
YAY! Thanks so much Happy Rose!
I just made the bread! It is excellent-- exactly like Naan at th eIndian restaurant! I've tried many flatbreads but this one takes the cake. As it were. Thank you!
YAY!! So happy you enjoyed it!
Sounds yummy!
My mom use to make this bread. She called it Indian Fry bread and we ate it with beans.
One main dish that comes to mind I have homemade is Macaroni & Cheese.
I use whole milk, I shred the Colby cheese and real butter. It doesn't taste good from.a box in comparison.
So true Laura!
Trader Joe's sells tahini at the best price I've been able to find......and it tastes really good!
I just bought Tahini and that's the one I got! SO good!
Chili. I hate restaurant chili or canned chili. Loved your recipes. Going to try and get back to you. You have a good channel.
We hope you do come back Linda! Thank you!
Old fashioned all the way.... woop woop!! Just throwing that out there like a blessing 😃
LOL! Love it!
Rice-a-roni is never bought as the amount of broken spaghetti and rice needed to equal a boxprobably isn’t even 1 cent, and I control sodium and add the flavors we love!
Absolutely right!!
I will make these…the bread looks amazing….I make my own sauce when I first got married I used jar sauce….and use to make instant potatoes never again homemade mashed are the best 😊❤️
Oh they are! Paul is the mashed potato maker in our home!

The bread looks delicious, almost like an english muffin and a tortilla had a baby. Thank you for sharing, will definitely try this easy recipe.☺️
LOL! Love that description!
I make chicken soup, with vegetables with rice or potatoes or zucchini/yellow squash. Also, always make my own lentil soup. I make lots of soups from scratch. I'm going to be making the stovetop bread and hummus.

I’m not saying I never buy a pizza, but I have learned to make a delicious homemade pizza, crust and all… your food looked delicious!😊
Good for you Rachel! Love that!
That bread looked amazing! I love the pockets that magically appeared. It would be perfect for my avocado, cheese and mushroom sandwiches. Also, I love how Dixie gets excited when Paul is taste-testing. I'm sure she wants to help out. LOL!
Yes, Dixie sure does! The bread sounds like it would be amazing for your yummy sandwich!
Fresh, homemade salsa!
I made the hummus. It was delicious and so much cheaper than store-bought. I’ll have to try the bread soon.

I used to live in the Pocono of PA. What I miss the most is making applesauce. I live in south TX now. You cannot grow apples here.
@@holdinon7719 Absolutely the best. First two years my trees got Apple's the deer and bears got to them before me well no more lol
Pizza and pasta sauce, bread, pie crusts, pizza dough, soups.
Paul is so cute! Emmy is so beautiful! You are both amazing and so inspiring! Thank God for you! Love from 🇨🇦
So very kind!! Thanks so much J.V.!
Hi Emmy and Paul. I make muffins from scratch. I have over 25 different receipies but banana, chocolate chips, blueberries, dates and nuts, pineapple and carrots and butterscotch chips are in great demand in this house...
Oh how wonderful!! 25 varieties!!

YES! Love that creativity! Thanks!
I make naan bread with almond flour and psyllium husk powder. They come out amazing, I make them with chicken curry.
Great idea!
I always make my bread spreads - orange marmalade, apple butter, preserves, etc. Saves money and tastes so much better!
I agree!
Here’s Paul’s logo 👍👍👍👍…..I make all bone broth….never buy it….thank you for sharing those yummy recipes….
They look lovely can't wait to try the bread . Hope you and your family are keeping well sending love and prayers to you all 🙏 God bless.
Thanks Diana, you as well!
Started cooking from scratch. Pay off debt I save about 100 a month doing this cooking. And your home smell amazing

Oh those danishes sound amazing! Let me know how they are!
I love homemade soups. So delicious and comforting.
I so agree Judy!
Have made hummus for years, but haven't made naan bread. Will have to give it a try. Naan also makes a good pizza crust.
Oh yes!
It took me forever, but I finally subscribed. I just love the channel and all your frugal tips,. Most of all, I love your attitude about frugality. You have a very good quality of life and you do it all while being frugal. You two are certainly not living a life of deprivation.
YAY!! Welcome Kakelinga! I considered you part of our frugal family since you started posting anyway though lol!! Thank you!
So true Judy!
I bake my own muffins, bread, cookies, pies, cakes, desserts
(instead of getting bakery ones), make homemade waffles and pancakes (instead of buying frozen), make homemade broths/stocks/sauces to save from buying canned, pizza dough, etc. I do most of my cooking from scratch and freeze it. I like making my own food. It almost always tastes better and I know what is in it.
I so agree Gretchen!
I make my own soups, broth, chili, iced tea, to name a few. I used to make my own breads too
Oatmeal raisin cookies are always homemade at our house. They don't last long! Kudos on the recipes. Paul's taste test is sincere.
Yes, thanks!
Yes, we would love to barter. Unfortunately, not many in our area that think like us lol!
Oh that sounds good!
LOL! Love that Karen!
This bread looks wonderful! Love hummus too.
That looks scrumptious and easy, and I can’t wait to try my hand at it! Thank you for sharing❤
Thank you!
I make all kinds of bread. Naan bread. flatbread. 6 grain bread. Dutch oven bread. There is something comforting and enjoyable in the bread making process. I will definitely try your recipe. Thanks!
I so agree Deborah!
My husband made his first Portokalopita last week, it was just like being back in Greece . Gorgeous .
Oh how wonderful!
Nothing beats like homemade from scratch you are so right. I make my own pickled beets for myself and my mum (dietary necessity), chunky applesauce and iced coffee/tea. Stay safe and blessed always
You as well Hilda, thank you!
Sourdough bread from a home starter xxx
I make homemade: hummus (Cookie and Kate's recipe), ranch dressing, enchilada sauce, teriyaki sauce, protein balls, banana bread/ muffins, and barbecue sauce
My own spice blends, my dinner rolls and my own Greek yoghurt
Love these homemade recipes! Definitely going to try this with two jars of tahini in the fridge. I always make pancakes & pikelets from scratch. Scones, damper, French toast. Going to try making crumpets & muffins again. You don’t get the smell of homemade cooking when buying prepared food items.
I always make my own bread crumbs out of bread crusts. I do most of my own baking as far as cookies and sweets. But I'm not a good bread baker. Have a wonderful day Emmy and Paul.
You as well Tonya, thank you!
🙂
Thanks for sharing Janet!
Love that Jennifer! Creative and economical!
Oh what a great idea! Thank you!
Awesome wholesome channel. Keep the videos coming. New subscriber here
Welcome and thank you!! So happy you found us!
I just started making my own bread in a second hand machine. So good. We make most of our meals from scratch.
That is awesome!
I can't wait until my husband watches this! Two of our favourite things ever! Thanks Emmy and Paul. We like to make our own butter. 😀
Debi thank you!
Hi, I am enjoying your channel. There are lots of great tips. You and your husband seem so kind and smart. Just curious, do you happen to have a grocery outlet in your area?. It's a bargain market, and I go once a month, and I am able to buy most of my groceries there for the month It has really great deals.
No, I don't believe we do.
Mayonnaise!! I use Avocado oil, no seed oils. Yummy!
My hubby will be making my boxed Angel Food cake for my birthday on Sunday. No expensive ready made cake for me. I want one made with love!
Happy birthday! Hope your day is truly blessed!
Slaw, bread, pizzas, cookies and many many seasonings due to how much salt is in packet seasonings.
I also use the tahini on toast. YUM!
Try canned bean tortillas for tacos. Just puree any canned bean to a thin pancake batter consistency. Add water if needed. Then fry up like a pancake. Black beans work good.
Great tip! Thanks Victoria!
Yes, Chris I bet you could use sour cream! Hoping our Bode is doing better!! Hugs right back to you both!!
Great video it made me smile when Paul Tom a second bite and Dixie Belle wanted a piece. Well ever since I saw your recipe for Cole Slaw and made it, I cannot bring myself to purchase it in the store anymore. 😊
Yes! We love that recipe too! Thanks!
Watching you make the bread was like watching magic wow!
LOL! Thanks!
Tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, barbecue sauce, cheese balls ( Boursin herb, shrimp, dried beef and horseradish] etc.
Sounds great!
Thanks so very much! Blessings to you as well!
You have such pretty tablecloths. Carrot cupcakes, brownies, ccokies, sandwich spreads, lots of other things. Paul has to be the easiest man in the world to feed. LOL
Yes, though there are a few foods he really dislikes lol! I just don't make them!
I absolutely love your channel I stumbled across it and I can’t turn it off. I’ve watched many of your videos and I find them helpful and uplifting❤Thank you for your joyful hearts
You are so kind Robyn! Thank you so much!
