Personally, I wouldn't call it "fishy", they simply took a different approach. I mean, how often do you see MMORPGs in open development? How often do you see MMORPGs of this scale and this number of various in-game systems? And I wouldn't call graphics "bad", playing it and watching on stream are different things, pretty sure that many people will be surprised when they see what game actually looks like. Furthermore, when it comes to graphics, it depends on the game you compare it with and it must be MMOs obviously, not single-player games. You can make a 25/10 graphics in MMO, but you need to keep the average player's PC in mind. Cuz you might end up having a game with the best graphics in the world, but what's the point if only people with RTX 9999990 Ti NASA Edition can play it, right?
@@FlankerAOC that s why i call it fishy bec i see they have so many players that love this game idea concept that s why would make 100000% logic to start early with something small and build what players want and i think it would be 100000 times better than all mmorpgs since the bigest problems with all mmorpgs nowdays is the comunication between company devs and players . About the game scale i can honestly say even the games back in 2000 s 1 st games like silkroad had in their peak more than 20 servers per region same with Pwi and most other mmos(didn t have a realm like they want to build but to be honest it s more easy to manage servers seperatly than an entire realm... let s say they make it and they will have 20 k players from their explanation they try to divide the map in different server right? what happens if all players do 1 quest in same time ? in same region so it will be in same server so or u will have 999999 ping or your client crashes) . About clases system that they made is kinda similar to silkroad (where u can have 2 clases in same time 1 main 1 second but a little different approach) I don t think most of players or ppl that react negative about this game want this game to fail ..... not at all ...as a MMORPG lover i can say i love what they want to do but i don t like the way they do this thing . The reason why i don t like the way they do this thing is simple : 1) the way that that guy talks(i want money but don t buy it we need testers but still if u want to continue to play add 200$ ) feels like he treats all those players that actually love this game like a joke . He could say from start guys we need more money so we will increase the monthly subscription instead of going all around the subject with phase 1 key bronze key diamond key etc 2)As a guy that works in real life 12 h a day mostly in any jobs u need to have a efficiency and u need to adapt to markets prices companies etc . They look exactly like that guy u have at work does noth all day and next day u need to do his job his place .(talk 90% work 10%) Remember when u mention Scale u refer to final product not the scale they have right now if u compare the game product they made in all these years with 200 employees can t be compared to some games in 1 year . 3) as i said No1 want s to hate them no 1 wants to make them fail most of us just watch and compare and we look and hope maybe this game it s different but when i see these things i don t understand how can u guy defend them i mean for real 4)Time is very important in this kind of industry ....from what i understood from one of their videos they will wait for another engine to be launch somewhere this year so think simple new engine new structure how many years they spent they do it again on a new engine so another couple of years with an unfinished product not to mention they didn t finish bioms map etc (another 20 years) so the question is do u guys love to play a game that u pay subscription + key and start over once couple months and repeat for couple of years and to never be able to play the game finished product ? By the time this game starts if it continues like this u would be able to buy all games on steam . 5) i don t think it s about hate or drama just facts data if i want to get a car i don t stay to invent it i just buy it same with this game instead of trying to make a HUGE ASS GAME from START they can make a small game THAT BECOMES THE BIGGEST GAME in World (that s why all this is weird) if they did work from years ago (90% and 10% talk) start it after modify it as players want i bet 1 mil $ they would be better than most of games right now . One big realm is not the solution for MMORPGS(it takes huge amounts of money i don t know if it can be solved and still have good fps in game )+ most of players don t have good pcs like u said if u make it like they want even without lagg it will require good specs PC just bec of realm so again u wont have many players since most of players if u look on charts play runescape or wow shitty games that dont require even 4 gb Ram and not even 3060 nvidia .
1. But that's exactly what they plan to do during Alpha 2 - start with 5 zones and slowly expand the playable area while also adding more content with each update. 2. I didn't really get your point about servers/population/ping. I'm not sure whether you watched their livestream about server meshing technology 3. Not liking "the way the guy talks" is a matter of subjective perception. He is responsible for what he says, not for what other people understand. Whatever he says, it can and always will have multiple possible interpretations and some of them would be negative. Even if he says something like "We'd like to secure more funding to make sure we don't have to look for 3rd party sponsors in future" - there would be people who immediately start screaming "Game will be dead / they don't have money / they will fail / it's a cash grab etc." 4. Speaking of your "Paragraph 2". He is a studio lead, not a guy who creates assets or does other technical stuff. That's not his job. But a part of his job is communicating once-twice in a month with audience and providing the community with updates. You don't see that happening often, because open development is quite rare. 5. Your "Paragraph 3" - if there is anything you don't understand, it's not necessarily the fault of the other party. There are certain things that I don't understand, technical side of things, for example, but it's not someone's fault, it's my lack of information. And obviously, you can always ask any question here or in the official discord - there are many people who can answer all your questions. 6. Your "Paragraph 4" - I believe you got it right. They moved from UE4 to UE5 a long time ago and they have no such plans in future. 7. Your "Paragraph 5" - I believe your point is based on another Asmongold's video when he also didn't understand the Server Meshing technology. There won't be just "1 realm". There will be different regions (NA, EU etc.) and each region will have multiple servers (for example, Alpha 2 starts with 3 NA servers and 3 EU servers). The CCU on start will be up to 3000 players and as soon as they add more zones and test everything, it will increase to 8000-10000 CCU per server. P.S. Some of the points you make are based on lack of information and/or misinformation from other content creators.
@@FlankerAOC 1)still it s an alpha the bad part about it that i don t like is that your progress gear etc will remain in the future game or not that s the question problem in my view? 2&7)in their video they explained that they try to divide all that realm into servers sectors like a matrice[100,100] each part of it is a server the idea is idk how can they fix the issue since let s say 99 % of those servers move to a single one to do a quest then they all have ping issues . let s assume they fix this part still the entire game since u will have huge amounts of data players environment quests u will need very good specs on your pc and if u look on charts most of games that are trending don t need that specs (i m not talking about current product i talk about when they will finish it ). Since u mention that they will have more servers where u can log in then is no damn "realm " rofl . A server with 2k-4k population could be done easily back into 2000s with old technology not sure about 10 k ppl seems very expensive even with the new AI servers that they launched last year . But let s assume they do that thing they divide the realm into servers or it s going to be all into a big server doesn t change the fact that your pc laptop will need to get data from that server for u to enjoy the game witch results in a high spec pc to be only be able play the game decent .(the game will be only be for a few of us that can afford better specs => not many players for them to get a good profit)(i hope it wont be the case but ...) 3) We'd like to secure more funding to make sure we don't have to look for 3rd party sponsors in future if he would say that + Hey players we need to increase the price subscription because x y z NO1 WOULD SAY A SHIET ABOUT THEM!! But when he comes today and say something and tomorrow he contradicts himself and does this multiple times just to make like a market strategy is disgusting for a normal player simple . In my view they invested let s say x they already got x back a profit and the job if they succeed they make a profit (every1 would love them to) if they fail the players lost their money(assets they have in game + time +the money they invested) they just got the profit and lost noth(they lost only a chance to make more money) from all of this (they lost maybe a little image but that s all). That s why I consider it s damn disgusting to come with those market strategies to try to trick 1-2 players. 4) He is the studio lead like the director of the company ofc he doesn t do any programming part or anything related to tech stuff but he represents the company he owns the company he gets the profit from all of u that donate or play his game you guys sponsor his chance to success then do u come and say in front of your player base a cheap market strategy to try to get more money or would u be honest about it ?(he is not backed by any company to force him to do that s why i consider these are perfect reasons why all players(that don t know the game or play ) hate this guy on UA-cam rofl. it s logical simple .(BE honest ethic no 1 would say a shiet ) 5)Well even if i don t understand some things and i m not an expert in tech i can say i played MMORPGS since they 1 st appeared in beta . Why i think most of us that sow the drama don t even want to know more about this game is if u played any MMORPGS for more than 10 years u will understand that almost every MMORPG have a cycle the end of that cycle starts with lots of ways for that game to make u or force u to pay or invest more money just to be able to do a part of the content . That's why i think old players like me would get 1000% revolted when u are a company that tries to do what gamers wanted all this time u get the attention u got the money but still u prefer to do things that only a game in decline would do or try to trick your players even if you are NOT FORCED BY INVESTORS TO DO THAT. 6) idk the video that i sow was recent not that old but like u say i m not sure since it was on UA-cam P.S. I hope they will succeed to do what they want just to see if they had a good reason to avoid to launch the game from start or not . I wish u the best ,I loved the way that u try to be objective about the subject .
@@gabyonsoft09 1. It is Alpha, no progress will be saved and everyone will start from level 1 on release. 2. Speaking of other server related stuff - you need to stop worrying about things that have not even happened yet and there is a high chance they won't happen at all. Have some patience. 3. Oh yes, people would still whine, complain and panic. People are people, it is in their nature to do that. Speaking of their "profit": so far they spent about 85-90 million while got only ~30-40 millions in sales. Saying that they don't risk/lose anything makes no sense as it is simply not true. 4. There are certain miscommunications, that's true, but the perception of them is subjective. I don't consider it to be a big deal or a red flag. If you ever tried doing some kind of project in your life - no matter how good it is, there will people who are unhappy for valid or invalid reasons. 5. I played Lineage for 12+ years and New World. Obviously, I've seen all kinds of fuckery going on. While you have every right to not be happy about certain things, it shouldn't turn into purely negative cherry-picking. There is plenty of work they've done already and they've done it well. Moreover, don't forget that this game is not going to be P2W, which is such a rare thing these days that may outweigh a lot of other stuff. 6. It's not about video's age, it's about it's accuracy and objectivity. That's something that is much more important. P.S. Cheers mate, thanks for a good discussion
Aoc initial alpha was announced in 2017 with a 2018 date. 6 years later and alpha has a comparative high price tag for short term access to pay the company to test the game for them. From all impartial reasoning, the game is failing on many fronts and intrepid ceo is misleading consumers at best.
I think they shouldn't have charged it that way, I don't think this approach is good. Some questions have to be raised, do you want to finance the game even though you don't have any benefit from this financing? If you wanted, keep in mind that you are helping the company without gaining anything in return, as I said before, I don't like this company's approach, it could have given a lot of cosmetics or game time. but you can also just wait, there are so many games to play, watch someone playing, why despair? I made the comment before I even saw the video, because I already knew about the drama, the creator is known to agree with the same points I mentioned, and another creator mentioned in this video too. This subject must be approached intelligently and with factual analysis, the problem with this generation is what facts are for eating and what they feel must be reality, I wonder if the next generations will be like this... The other day I made a similar comment on another drama, and someone came up with, "you can't generalize", what I'm mentioning is data, so there are rules and exceptions, now I ask what is the rule?
Well, I'm not sure they could choose an approach that would satisfy everyone. So there will always be people who are unhappy. Not defending them, but it is what it is. At the same time, think about their target audience: MMO fans are usually much older than Fortnite kids and have more financial capabilities; ~65% of topics in Guild Recruitment thread on forum are from NA region, which is a Tier 1 region when it comes to monetization. This could be one of the factors they kept in mind
If you are selling limited product for limited time, before its gone forever, it literally is FOMO marketing. The only real problem with the whole AoC case was the fact that they sold keys for alpha tests only for high price, nothing else. If the packs had all the things they added later at the beginning, nobody would have had problem with it, since its pretty much founder pack with all the test access.
Good point. I'd like to add a few things here: 1. I talked about it in video - there should be a reward for early supporters and exclusive cosmetics is a decent option. However, if there was only one pack of skins - only people who liked it and those for whom cosmetics doesn't matter (me, for example) would buy it. But there will be a part of people for whom cosmetics is important but they didn't like the only option available. Having different skins is an obvious solution here. 2. Not everything that has time limit when it comes to sales is automatically a FOMO. 3. When it comes to FOMO, you are still the side that makes the final solution. It only affect you if you let it affect you. There are people who might knowingly buy some product and then shift the responsibility for their action and accuse a seller in using a FOMO tactic (not talking about Ashes here, just a general statement, and definitely not an attempt to rationalize my own decision - if it ends up being wrong, I will simply accept and admit it). 4. Even we consider it FOMO, it is still cosmetics and not something crucial or P2W. Wouldn't call it a big deal
Had like 20people ready to get the alpha2 keys and test the game, then the AMA came out and streamers started talking negative about the game and now like only 3 of us out of 20 will be testing the game...i was like dang pick up you're brain u left it around the corner there..they all listened to a few streamers and dipped.
Pls don't talk about inflation, when you don't understand inflation, yes inflation is getting higher and higher and 100 dollars back in the day was more then it was now, but the salaries stayed about the same, so a 100 dollars is still a lot. Then again I ain't gonna buy a 100 dollar key just to play and alpha test for them, I will just wait until it is done.
The way I see all this is AoC, just like Star Citizen, realized there is a lot more money to make by selling an unfinished product than selling the actual finished product. I mean, you would never pay 250$ for a game, but there's thousands of people that were willing to do so under the guise of "supporting the game". All of this is a continuation of milking your overhyped community for as much money as you can. There's nothing illegal in that.... unless the game never release which I doubt that would happen, but it's a scam-like tactics nonetheless.
Sounds just like Star Citizen haters. They just spew the same non sense over and over again. I follow the AoC development but have yet to monetarily support it. Star Citizen on the other hand, I've been supporting for 4 years now.
@@FlankerAOC It's deserved hate, It has Macro-Transactions 43000 for the Legatus pack. DOA all Content is like 2300. Train Simulator all content is like 11000.
@kellywilson137 and here we are...the exact people I was talking about in my original comment. They always point out and scream about that exact pack.
About clases system that they made is kinda similar to silkroad (where u can have 2 clases in same time 1 main 1 second but a little different approach)
I don t think most of players or ppl that react negative about this game want this game to fail ..... not at all ...as a MMORPG lover i can say i love what they want to do but i don t like the way they do this thing .
The reason why i don t like the way they do this thing is simple :
1) the way that that guy talks(i want money but don t buy it we need testers but still if u want to continue to play add 200$ ) feels like he treats all those players that actually love this game like a joke .
He could say from start guys we need more money so we will increase the monthly subscription instead of going all around the subject with phase 1 key bronze key diamond key etc
2)As a guy that works in real life 12 h a day mostly in any jobs u need to have a efficiency and u need to adapt to markets prices companies etc .
They look exactly like that guy u have at work does noth all day and next day u need to do his job his place .(talk 90% work 10%)
Remember when u mention Scale u refer to final product not the scale they have right now if u compare the game product they made in all these years with 200 employees can t be compared to some games in 1 year .
3) as i said No1 want s to hate them no 1 wants to make them fail most of us just watch and compare and we look and hope maybe this game it s different but when i see these things i don t understand how can u guy defend them i mean for real
4)Time is very important in this kind of industry ....from what i understood from one of their videos they will wait for another engine to be launch somewhere this year so think simple new engine new structure how many years they spent they do it again on a new engine so another couple of years with an unfinished product not to mention they didn t finish bioms map etc (another 20 years)
so the question is do u guys love to play a game that u pay subscription + key and start over once couple months and repeat for couple of years and to never be able to play the game finished product ?
By the time this game starts if it continues like this u would be able to buy all games on steam .
5) i don t think it s about hate or drama just facts data if i want to get a car i don t stay to invent it i just buy it same with this game instead of trying to make a HUGE ASS GAME from START they can make a small game THAT BECOMES THE BIGGEST GAME in World (that s why all this is weird)
if they did work from years ago (90% and 10% talk) start it after modify it as players want i bet 1 mil $ they would be better than most of games right now .
I'm not sure whether you watched their livestream about server meshing technology
3. Not liking "the way the guy talks" is a matter of subjective perception. He is responsible for what he says, not for what other people understand. Whatever he says, it can and always will have multiple possible interpretations and some of them would be negative. Even if he says something like "We'd like to secure more funding to make sure we don't have to look for 3rd party sponsors in future" - there would be people who immediately start screaming "Game will be dead / they don't have money / they will fail / it's a cash grab etc."
@@FlankerAOC
1)still it s an alpha the bad part about it that i don t like is that your progress gear etc will remain in the future game or not that s the question problem in my view?
But let s assume they do that thing they divide the realm into servers or it s going to be all into a big server doesn t change the fact that your pc laptop will need to get data from that server for u to enjoy the game witch results in a high spec pc to be only be able play the game decent .(the game will be only be for a few of us that can afford better specs => not many players for them to get a good profit)(i hope it wont be the case but ...)
3) We'd like to secure more funding to make sure we don't have to look for 3rd party sponsors in future if he would say that + Hey players we need to increase the price subscription because x y z NO1 WOULD SAY A SHIET ABOUT THEM!!
4) He is the studio lead like the director of the company ofc he doesn t do any programming part or anything related to tech stuff but he represents the company he owns the company he gets the profit from all of u that donate or play his game you guys sponsor his chance to success then do u come and say in front of your player base a cheap market strategy to try to get more money or would u be honest about it ?(he is not backed by any company to force him to do that s why i consider these are perfect reasons why all players(that don t know the game or play ) hate this guy on UA-cam rofl.
it s logical simple .(BE honest ethic no 1 would say a shiet )
5)Well even if i don t understand some things and i m not an expert in tech i can say i played MMORPGS since they 1 st appeared in beta .
6) idk the video that i sow was recent not that old but like u say i m not sure since it was on UA-cam
Thank you for your vid man. I was getting tired of all the drama that started popping up. That was a good take.
Yeah, it's absolutely unnecessary, we just need to wait 2 months and that's it. Then we will know what is what
If you are selling limited product for limited time, before its gone forever, it literally is FOMO marketing.
The only real problem with the whole AoC case was the fact that they sold keys for alpha tests only for high price, nothing else. If the packs had all the things they added later at the beginning, nobody would have had problem with it, since its pretty much founder pack with all the test access.
Good point. I'd like to add a few things here:
People are people, it's really hard to change them. Authority bias is a thing
Hi! 🫀 Awesome!
It's totally fine, mate. As I said, you are not forced to buy anything. Waiting for the release is a safe and decent option
If this sells out all it proves is inflation isn’t high enough, if people have money to waste on such nonsense.
Great video Flanker, subbed!!
Thank you man!
Lol who the fk are you to tell "how things are once and for all" This game and the cult members is looking real bad.
Glad you followed my advice in the end, mate
Sounds just like Star Citizen haters. They just spew the same non sense over and over again. I follow the AoC development but have yet to monetarily support it. Star Citizen on the other hand, I've been supporting for 4 years now.
Honestly, I don't know much about Star Citizen, but I heard that it gets a lot of hate

@kellywilson137 and here we are...the exact people I was talking about in my original comment. They always point out and scream about that exact pack. Anyone who mentions that (while it is a negative) has clearly never actually played SC. You do realize that all you need to spend is $45. Everything can be earned in game. The whales who spend thousands allow CIG to have these stupid high dollar packs.
Very nice, informative and to the point on current topics. Too bad a lot of people don't use common sense and take a minute to think for themselves instead of just regurgitating what someone else said.
I'll try to do my part and maybe some of them will stop worrying about things that are not that crucial
