A jai alai game is played in round robin format, usually between eight teams of two players each or eight single players. The first team to score 7 or 9 points wins the game. Two of the eight teams are in the court for each point. The server on one team must bounce the ball behind the serving line, then with the cesta "basket" hurl it towards the front wall so it bounces from there to between lines 4 and 7 on the floor. The ball is then in play. The ball used in jai alai consists of metal strands tightly wound together and then wrapped in goat skin. Teams alternate catching the ball in their cesta and throwing it "in one fluid motion" without holding or juggling it. The ball must be caught either on the fly or after bouncing once on the floor. A team scores a point if an opposing player: fails to serve the ball directly to the front wall so that upon rebound it will bounce between lines No. 4 and 7. If it does not, it is an under or over serve and the other team will receive the point. fails to catch the ball on the fly or after one bounce holds or juggles the ball hurls the ball out of bounds interferes with a player attempting to catch and hurl the ball The team scoring a point remains in the court and the opposing team rotates off the court to the end of the list of opponents. Points usually double after the first round of play, once each team has played at least one point.
Jai Alai is just like tennis, racketball, handball, and squash, etc. In ALL of these games, the ball can either be played in the air or after one bounce. You try to to throw the ball in a low manner....just above the lower padding for instance so it is difficult for an opponent to scoop it up and return it. If the ball you throw hits the wood, it is out. If you place a shot or a player places a shot and the ball first takes one bounce and then out of bounds or against the screen, the player who threw the shot gets that point. Just hitting the front wall does not get you a point. You attempt to throw the ball so hard and fast so that the opponent is UNABLE to return your shot to also hit the wall. If the opponent bobbles, or juggles the shot, the player who threw that shot receives that point. In EVERY GAME, Team 1 ALWAYS starts the game by serving to Team 2. Whoever wins that point, serves to team 3 etc. When all teams have had at least one chance to play, then the points are doubled to 2 points from this point until someone gets 7, sometimes 9 or in a partido, (a longer game against the same two people or teams), 15 points. Usually, the overwhelming majority of games are to 7 points.
This is fantastic! Dania Jai-Alai (what I will always call this fronton) looks so nice. Wish Tampa Jai Alai was still alive and well..........
Announced at TJA- miss it, a beautiful game. Grossly mis-managed at every fronton.
This sport is awesome!!! Can we watch it live anywhere ??.
Leave it to Kenny Mayne to make Jai-Alai understandable... we so need this in California
Thank you for posting
Idk if its still around but there's a jai alai in Tijuana B.C.
Are playing there live currently?
On my bucket list

Been there, done that, i.e., not win a single bet all night.
The Dania beach casino looks familiar from a game but I can’t place it…
