I really like Magpul. I am not used to a company that puts the customers ahead of even profits. Their products are good quality and well designed as well as competitively priced. I try to do business with them when ever I can and hope to do much more in the future.
I'm hoping Magpul comes out with a DPB stock. (Doesn't Pull Beardhairs)
A simple solution to that problem is to wear body armor and fully collapse your stock while shooting. No more pinching your tactical beard!
God bless Magpul for making a stand. If only more companies were as honorable. Good video!
Thank you! I’m new to owning a rifle and this helped me understand the difference between the magpul stocks.
I have the MOE that came on my Colt LE6920, But was really thinking about getting the ACS though.. Magpul rocks for standing up with their morals and principals against the tyrannical ass holes we have against us right now.
I'm partial to the ACS-L myself. It balances nicely when paired with a 20" pencil barrel, and the friction lock is an outstanding feature. I keep a couple 2032 batteries in the storage compartment for my optic.
I just bought the ACS-L as well and really like the cheek weld. Very well thought out ergonomics.
I have the ACS-L. I love it! Only complaint: QD attachment pokes my rib.
I love Magpul! Best bang for the buck Stocks! They are very well built. they just WORK ! I like the CRT(in dark earth/tan) for the looks, quality & price!
Thank you for this video 6 years later! Just watched it after picking up an Anderson Ar 15 and your video pointed me in the direction of the STR.
Highjack86 says to put tactical mints in them compartments. Stay minty tactically.
I love my CTR stock. It's a huge upgrade! Magpul makes some terrific stuff.
I am looking at the ACS to go on a Vltor A5 buffer system but I really like the standard MOE stock for most things. They are light, rugged, fit well & they are cheap. I don't find it worth the extra $ for the locking system. It is nice but it ads cost & complexity & if you do have any play in a standard MOE & it bothers you, just put a little strip of the soft side of Velcro on your buffer tube & slide the stock over it. That takes up the extra space on any stock that has some play in it.
I started at the bottom and worked my way up the line. First got a MOE just for the affordability when I built my first AR. Then, upgraded to CTRs that AR and another I build. Finally, I bought a UBR for my 'higher end' AR. It adds a considerable amount of weight, but damn it is a good stock. I think if you are doing a KISS build, the CTR stock can't be beat. I've run it through classes and beat the heck out of it… still good to go. Think of the UBR as a TANK… the Bull Bar you put on the front of your 4x4. It is solid, adjustable and worth the extra weight depending on your requirements. Great Vid!
I'm looking to start an AR build and I just love these vids. Keep the great informational videos coming. I freak'n love it. Thanks Sootch00
Thanks for the time you dedicate to your videos. I would have never attempted a full build without your helpful advice. I just got the ATI scorpion grip stock and hybrid buffer and tube. Very high quality and 110$. Thanks again buddy.
I got magpul everything on my sport 2. last thing I am getting is the magpul ctr stock. I dont care about all the storage compartments all that much.
If someone actually paid 265.00 for that magpul stock they are nuts. The ctr is better by far
Unless the person is in the high income bracket... but yeah ill stick with accessories that I can find for a deal then when SHTF ill go hunting for someone with a Bentley looking AR-15.
Theres people that pay $400 for the new Fortis LA stock. I was one of them till i got it and realized idk why im paying this much for such a heavy piece of metal.
Food for thought. If you have a smith & wesson m&p 15-22 or you have tapco furniture on your AK variant and you want to install a magpul, then you want to get the commercial stock. They fit on my AK that had a tapco "buffer tube", so did my saiga 12, and I coarse my S&W m&p 15-22. My thoughts here is that plastic is more fragile so they thicken those "buffer tubes" to commercial thickness for durability.
Just the video I needed to see Sootch!! Many thanks! CTR for me and my needs. Take care and keep up the great vids!
So much eye candy in this video. The stocks look great too! lol
Sweet review of MAGPUL stocks, great starting point to help you decide what stock offering from MAGPUL suits your desired usage.
Always good info, I've been with you all these years.
This video makes everything so simple. Thanks sootch!
Sootch, thanks for posting this video. This is a great reference video on the Magpul stocks.
I have the ACS on my Sig 716, and CTR on my Diamond Back DB-15. Love them both.
Great review...l have been trying to decide which one to get and you have once again come through and made the muddy water clear. Sorry l missed out on the meet and greet when you were in Smyrna back in May...was working that day and couldn't get over to the store... ironically l work only a few miles from there..oh well.
Thanks for putting this video up! I was just looking at them on their site and I wasn't sure what I should get from them.
Great information on all these stocks . . Thanks for the video . Sootch00
I run a few of the new MOE carbine stocks, they are a solid option if your state has silly rules on the books about folding stocks, the MOE carbine stocks are short and need the .8" add-on recoil pad to fit a grown up person, the MOE carbine stock can work with a ASAP and carbine buffer tube. the great thing about them is one single regular screw and its off and a CTR can pop rite on when I'm out of state. thanks for the video sootch00!
My Sig M400 "enhanced" came with full magpul furniture including the MOE stock in ODG;) I live that stock and the fire grips too! I got that rifle the week Obama got re-elected at Walmart with a really nice soft sided Sig tactical case for $918 plus tax in Florida!!! That's like $300 cheaper than just the rifle no case at any gun dealer in the Orlando area😳 I've got more than 1500 rounds through it and it runs perfect with zero issues! All the magpul furniture has stood up and still looks brand new! I support them because of their stand against colorado's bullshit new laws as well. I'm sold on the quality, and don't plan on running anything else on my stuff! I even bought the enhanced thicker but stock pad, and larger aluminum trigger guard, and about 2 dozen of their mags as well! Probably going to try their foldaway sights too. All thought I do like the stock Sig sights including the rear fold away. We'll see.....
I usually run magpul stocks but I just ordered a vltor emod stock to try out. It was between that and the str which I previously had. Also had the acs-l and moe. Hope I dont regret going for the vltor this time around. Thanks for the video man
***** thanks for clearing that up. .. I have been totally lost when I went to the magpul site when it came to the different stock selections they have offered.
"Magpul started with... a mag pull. Hence the name." Derp. I feel so dumb. :-)
Always wondered where they came up with the name. Solved that little mind quandary. Lol
Magpul fanboy here... I love their products and their paradigm - wish more folks could be affected by their pride. I go out and look for Magpul products first as I have a choice on who/how I support worthy missions - Godspeed Patriots...
Ironically this is better than Magpul's videos on this topic.
Why isn't an ODG COLOR for the ACS carbine model. ODG blends in the forest more than FDE and heats up less than BLACK.
I can see your saw hidden inside your Para Bracelet ! :-o The truth is any peace of wood with the exception of a very large branch(that could take forever too saw) would be much easier to brake with your foot! It is actually too be used the same as a Garrote! Food for thought
have a moe on one ar and ctr on another and love the locking mechanism on the ctr. good review sootch
CTR. Have one on my AR and one on the Mossberg 500 home defense build. Great stocks. I put the thicker butt pad on the AR. Magpul makes perfect components.
I have the ACS on my rifle and it's great! But I'm switching to the CTR for lighter weight. The main reason I had the ACS was to store lots of batteries for my Eotech but I'm switching to the Aimpoint H-1
Just turned 18 and got a stag 15 for my Bday. Can’t wait to go to the range!
Thanks for posting and sharing this informative video presentation on the Magpul products. I have the CTR with a VLTOR stock tube for my Romanian AK variant and works very well and make the rifle much more attractive. Great products!
scootch00 you always do great videos!!! i hope mine get as good as yours. btw love the different looks you have in the start of the video. i am glad i subscribed to your channel.
My RUGER PC chassis carbine came with a MAGPUL MOE adjustable stock on a RUGER I-beam thingy that clamped to the vertical Pic rail at the back end of the receiver.
MY STOCK UPGRADE: (1.)remove the I-beam from the carbine and the MOE stock (2.)attach Midwest Industries "folding buffer tube adaptor" to the vertical Pic rail (3.)screw an LBE buffer tube into the MI folding adaptor (use blue LocTite) (4.)slide the original MOE stock on the buffer tube and... VOILA'! a sturdy folding stock for my RUGER chassis PCC.
*place a 1" wide x 2" long strip of Gorilla tape at 12 o'clock at the rearmost position of the buffer tube to prevent the MOE stock from wobbling. Use no more or no less tape. This way you re-use the MOLE stock with no need for the newer MAGPUL "locking" MOE stock.
The m93 was the first Magpul stock.
The MOE came out after the CTR.
Thanks Soocth, nice information, very well said, keep up the very good work!
I have the regular moe mil spec stock for my M&p 15 sport 2. It’s a very nice budget stock but has a slight amount of play moving it up and down when extended compared to the factory one. It’s a bit longer which is perfect now
as always great review brotherSOOTCH
acs-l are the stocks for all of my future builds. The PRS is great if you don't need quick adjustment.
Great summary Sootch! I'm still rocking the original MOE & I love it! Do you happen to know when the Magpul AK mags will be released for sale? I figured you may have some inside info!
The CTR and the PRS are my favorites, and of course the MOE due to it's light weight, low cost, great design & high quality. If you have a precision rifle with a collapsible stock the CTR is most definitely the way to go due to its friction lock, which gives it the stability of a fixed stock, and the availability of attachments to raise the comb height for a better cheek weld with tall optics including. There is one from LaRue Tactical that is even fully compatible with your AR15's charging handle. For a precision rifle with a fixed stock the PRS can't be beat. It's absolutely ideal for the job, and if you want even more adjustability for your PRS you can get the "Enhanced Adjustable Recoil Pad Assembly" from MD Tac. ( mdttac.com/adjustable-prs.html ) It's pretty sweet too.
Overall I agree completely with Sootch. When it comes to stocks for your AR styled rifle Magpul is the place to go!
Nice review. I actually just purchased the MOE for my AR build.
Thanks for making this video Sootch, you just made my mind up on the str
Ben, I have the STR on my Ruger and I love it. You won't be disappointed. I was able to shoulder a friends AR with the CTR stock yesterday, and the STR's cheek weld is a huge improvement.
Just picked up a CTR and i love it!
Im totally dumbfounded on what Im doing wrong and not particularly fond on the idea of returning my parts...but I just built an AR15 lower (spikes tactical) and using a new CMMG receiver extension kit [buffer tube] (as far as I know, the CMMG tube is definitely mil spec). I then took my mil spec magpul fixed stock and tried to slip on that stock to my extension tube...the screw holes on BOTH magpul fixed-stock adapters are cut off by the buffer tube's lower adjustment/positional tab area (the lower area of the buffer tube where it slants). Not sure if Im describing this well enough...but long story short, I cant get the screw for my magpul fixed stock to go through to the other side of the fixed stock, because the lower part of my buffer tube is blocking the screw where its supposed to insert thru the fixed stock. I really dont think I screwed in my buffer tube too far either, its perfectly holding the tube retention pin in place. I compared my CMMG buffer tube to my Colt M4's buffer tube and they look identical EXCEPT for the lower part of the buffer tube where the adjustment notches are...the "lower slant" of the CMMG buffer tube looks slightly beefier than the Colt M4 buffer tube. Very frustrated. Any thoughts or ideas? Thank you in advance!
@hectorthrills8193 yeah...its been a while so Im trying to remember the details. It felt like the twilight zone with why it didnt fit...I dont know if there was a screw or something within the end of the new stock, but I recall removing the screw completely from the magpul stock and shaking it a bit and tapping it, maybe I had something lodged inside of it that was preventing it from fully closing on the buffer tube. 10th try was a charm...I simply slid the stock onto the buffer tube all the way, pushed in moderately and it sank down on the tube/finally inserted all the way, and I was able to re-insert the screw and screw it in all the way. Maybe try removing your magpul retention screw completely...dont lose the retention nut if there is one, Im sure there is. Also make sure theres nothing inside your stock that is preventing it from closing tight and inserting all the way at the end of the buffer tube, like a piece of paper, plastic, or screw or who knows what that was maybe floating around in the box. Dont force it though, you definitely shouldnt have to force it in. Maybe get a flashlight and look down inside the stock as best you can and make sure theres no defects or anything jammed in there either. Best of luck!
I like my CTR.....gave my MOE away to my Dad who was using the basic M4 adjustable stock.
Hey there. Can you please do a video where you build the entire AR 15 5.56 from complete stripped to completely built for us first timers with building.
I'm so glad I found this video. I knew nothing about the magpul stocks and I happened to grab the right one, the acs, mil-spec and I ordered a mil-spec tube too.. Just luck I guess. Thanks for verifying the purchase with your vid.
Best info. I have found about the Magpul Buttstocks.
Great vid *****! Gotta love Magpul. I just did a video on the ACS stock myself the other day.
Great review Sootch! Since you're doing review on stocks, do you think you can do a tutorial on Slings and how to wrap them on stocks? I have a hard time finding anything concrete or solid when it comes to sling adjustments, or how to use a sling effectively. Thanks a ton Sootch! 2A!
The MOE was introduced after the CTR. I thought it was just a slip of the tongue the first time the narrator said the MOE came first, but then he said it again. I owned quite a few CTRs by the time Magpul announced the MOE line of (the cheaper version of the already well-loved CTR and MIAD) stocks and grips.
I plan on putting a fixed carbine stock on mine when it's time to upgrade. Even with the extended butt pad which is sold separately, it's half the price of the adjustable ones.
his tactical gear is nice and gun are like Always perfect
thank you for doing this video. I own a ar-15 and thought of replaceing stock rear this was very very helpful on replaceing it
Thank you for comparing these stocks!
Is that some kind of thunderstruck inspired UA-cam song so you don't get copyrighted? 😂 cool
The one with the two battery or cigar compartments . Ac1s is the one I like for the cheeek rest , yup top right one is the coolest Imo
really nice video Sootch, i just wonder if you could do a "ear protection video", i have seen that you are using the "3M ear ultrafit", im using them and i love them. what do you think of them and what you prefer.
another question is how does a paracord bracelet act when it gets wet, does it shrink, stay wet or does it dry fast.
Thank you for what you do for the gun community and Greetings from Sweden!!!
The fact that magpul decided to leave CO over the principle of the 2nd amendment is just awe inspiring! I will go out of my way to support them, and have nothing but respect for them and their decision
I just picked up the MOE stock for $37.99 +tax on GT distributors out of Austin TX
Very informative video. I'm doing a new AR build and this helps tremendously.
I like all the American built arms handguards ya'll are using, I just got mine not to long ago.
MAGPUL has some limited edition 30 round Gen M2 PMAGs on their site for $12.99 (less than the cost of a 10 round PMAG). The other PMAGs are being shipped out and aren't available on their website so hurry.
Excellent comparison. I am a bit surprised that you did not mention or introduced the 3 optional cheek risers for the MOE and the CTR stocks?
I gotta be honest. I was kinda 'meh' about 'MagPul products' until I bought my M&P15 which came with their MLOK handguard and a Gen2 mag. As a former soldier from the late 80s, I thought metal mags and a regular 'M4 stock' were good enough... Preferred, even.
Now? I can't get enough of them! That handguard's built in heat shield is excellent, the mag is way more durable than I thought it would be (so much so I've moved on to their gen 3s), and their ergos are second to none!
Now? I hate that I'm saying this but I really want one of their stocks with a thicker cheek-weld and QD mounts...
Thanks MagPul! 😡
I definitely do and will support Magpul for their principled stand against the gun grabbers in Colorado.
Great stuff. I do appreciate you showed a shoulder tap on your partner 6 to tell him your position. Great move and saftey .
Thanks for the comparisons
How much does the old school 6 position stock weigh?
Really lime the review as ive revently got the magpul acs stock and really like it i got it after seeing this review
I use the MagPul MOE CTR butt stock for my m&p 15 sport 2 and for my BCM M4 and love them
thx it was confusing! I like the ACS-L or PRS idea for my soon to buy M1A Blackfeather.
Yes sir! I support magpul for taking that stand!. I did my best talking to local reps & even our senators to try & bring magpul & baretta to Wv but our tard Govner funked that up. Great vid & thanks for it. This helped me make my choice on whick is best for me
every great rifle needs a great stock
I was completely confused on the differences between the 3. If I didn't go with a fixed stock I would get the basic friction lock one
You've reviewd most of the magpul products. Do you get paid for that?
Thank you for your vid. I didn't know the STR stock had storage bays on the cheek rests.
This is a great video. Sure to save a lot of people a lot of money.
Great comparison vid. Thanks!
hey sootch00, mind doing a review on different free float quad rails? I need advice on what manufacturer to buy from for my mid length 16" ar15
I just got the acs l stock, I'm digging the cheek weld. Not sure how I feel about the sling attachment sticking off to the side. So far a very solid stock
Now they are starting to make AK stuff :) Love magpul products and stance on gun rights.
I just bought the MOE stock for my first AR15 build(keepin it light wait) but my next one I want to try out the PRS stock on a precision build
Got my Sig stabilizer brace a little over a month ago and "man-oh-man" is it worth it ......
I love Magpul products. But one thing I have noticed working the in the gun show industry is the introduction of the Chinese knock off Magpul products. And they are pretty hard to tell apart. So be aware that this is happening and look your stuff over good. STAY READY!
uncle sootch. this is a really random question. But what are you rocking for combat pants during the intro ? they look like the old choco chip desert storm pattern.
Holy crap Sootch00! This video is just what I needed to explain the difference of all of magpuls stocks. Thanks so much!
