- An American has become the fourth foreign tourist to die in Colombia this year.
Authorities in Medellín have opened an investigation into the death of Dakarai Earl Cobb, 47, was found dead in the bedroom of a house in the Santa Lucia neighborhood of San Javier, where he was staying.
He was found at 8pm local time on Monday by the owners of the house after two days of being missing.
The owners became concerned for Cobb after not seeing him for days, so decided to enter the bedroom, where they found him dead.
The discovery was made on 47F Street and 89A Highway, in the Santa Lucía neighborhood, west of Medellín, as reported by El Colombiano.
The owner of the room told the outlet: "The man had been there for a month, nothing more, and we rented it because they asked us for a favor because he was coming to stay for about a month, nothing more.
"The man did not respond further when we left the room and when we found him, the man was dead."
Cobb is the third American to be recorded dead in four days in Medellín, after the two cases were reported in Laureles and El Poblado.
Anthony G. López, 29, was found dead in a hotel located on Circular 4 and Carrera 70, in the Laureles neighborhood. A man and a woman were said to have entered the room, leaving hours later.

Dakarai Cobb was my friend and was a wonderful man!HE WAS NOT A PASSPORT BRO!!!! He lived in Colombia for 6 plus year and ran a language exchange that connected Americans with Colombians. Never did he pursue prostitutes nor did he drink. He also had an elderly mother that he took care of and was one of the most kind people that I ever met! Please quit insulting your fellow BLACK MAN for clicks! He was loved by many in Medellin and tutored hundreds of people during his time in Colombia. RIP to my friend.

He definitely turned in his "player card" after experiencing the dark side of reckless hoeing. You have to be responsible and on guard when you do this passport stuff. There are so many ways it can go wrong, not just the losing your life part.

You are right. I have been traveling for 20 years outside of America. Live in another country for over a decade now. Never had an issue as a black man but I'm also built differently. .Plus I do my research before I go to any place. If it isn't safe and the rate of crime is high then I won't go. I check out what kind of crime against tourists is at a place if any, or crimes against black people. The rates, types of crime and the areas they happen most. Talk to locals, others who have been there, look at blogs, country crime news, check forums, travel advisors. I don't just fly some place blindly. I personally would never go to South America but that's just me.

Bro i went to Colombia 3 times last year and going back in April. Its safe as long as you keep a low profile, stay away from drugs, dont get shit faced drunk, and stay off Tinder.. there's many ways to engage in pay for play in Colombia without the risk of getting drugged. There's a shitload of brothels and stripclubs that provide a controlled environment where there is no risk of drugging. It also helps to know the local language to the country you are traveling to bc this will help you vet ppl better and navigate the land. Always make sure your hotel/air bnb has 24hr security that will id any company you bring back to your room and tip them. Not everybody in Colombia is out to get you, there's way more good ppl than bad. The only way people know im from America is when i speak Spanish they know its not my first language but when im walking around minding my business to everyone else think im just another Colombian

But 1st, let me explain a few things. I have lived in Medellin(pronounced Metagene) for the last 5 years(2019). My wife is Colombian. Since july 2021 I have deejayed around Medellin, Cali, and even Cartagena about 140 times. I have been all over Medellin and don't live in the tourist area of El Poblado. I even go out through the city plenty of times solo. I have many Colombian acquaintances, and have also supported local artists and businesses. I haven't been caught up in dangerous situations, and my Spanish is ok. Not fluent, but understandable. Within Colombia, I have been to Medellin, Cali, Cartagena, Bogota, San Andres, Periera, Monteria, Barranquilla, and Guatape. And I am not always with my wife.
THE QUESTION: What am I doing that is preventing me from knowing anyone drugged, killed, scamned by women, or having those things happen to me?

I can confirm what he just said! I have left America about 23 years ago. I have lived in Portugal, Cape Verde Islands, Madrid, Barcelona, Dakar, and Morocco, and now I am in Paris, France. I have visited Mauritania, Gambia, and Brussels, and will be visiting many more. If you are paying only 150-300 dollars for a flight, just know that where you are going the economic crisis is hurting the locals and you are looked at like a meal ticket in the local streets. Violence is everywhere, but you will most likely get robbed where people are having hard times. It starts right at the airports! We learn how to survive in America at an early age. I just don't get why people leave America and think they are safe and lower their guards. Always keep that same mentality! Military minded! Most importantly, learn the language, study the atmosphere, do research about the place, its traditions, conditions, and safe/danger zones, and never accept drinks or something to smoke or eat from randoms.
