Marafa hell's kitchen Malindi Kenya , located 40kms from Malindi town,it's a coloured canyon known locally as "Nyari" (the place broken by itself) .Once a great sandstone ridge worn by wind ,rain and wind floods into a series of gorges.
A mystical theory states that there was once a very rich family of Wakiza clan who had a huge number of livestock .The family was selfish and never wanted to share their wealth with the rest of the community,they even showered with milk from livestock.
As a punishment God made it rain heavily and the entire homestead sunk and was washed away by the flash floods resulting to the
current landscape.
The distinctive difference in colours in the canyon have different meanings.white represent milk 🥛 from the livestock
Red ♥️ the blood shed as a result of GODS punishment . During sunset you may spot pink , orange and deep crimson colours..
NB the Best time to visit early morning or late evening coz no Tours are done during the day due to high temperature that goes up to 50 degrees.
Entrance fee 200ksh +500for a guide.
The money paid as entrance fee benefits the community.
