The Russo-Ukrainian war is 2 years old but the conflict can be considered 10 years old
The war has been going on for 10 years, Russia invading the rest of Ukraine is just an escalation of it

Actually, neither Russia nor Ukraine declared war to each other, so officially there is still no war. (For example, they still trade, and Russia pays Ukraine for gas transfer).
As to 10 years period: maybe the author meant the start of military actions in February of 2014 when Igor Strelkov's group rebel happened. DPR and LPR were in almost constant war with the rest of Ukraine

As someone who's been closely following this war since its inception, the last month or so feels like the beginning of something massively devastating. I remember like 6 months ago when there were entire days with zero change in frontlines, today the Russians are gaining ground per day and the Ukrainian forces are under massive pressure thanks to the lack of western support.
If I were Zelensky, I would've start the negotiations right now for a peace deal to not face the fate right around the corner.
If what you say is true, Russia has no reason to negotiate. If it's not true, Ukraine shouldn't negotiate. Checkmate.

Damn, this is the first time any side's gains are visible on the big map since the Russian withdrawal from Kherson back in Nov 2022. (Yes I know we had Bakhmut, Krynky and Robotyne, but those were slow and inch by inch)

Damn. In 6 months of Ukraines failed 2023 offensive they only managed the liberation of 14 villages, 0 cities and around 370km during summer and fall conditions. Russia has already outpaced this in 4 months time while also capturing the most fortified city in all of Ukraine during the WINTER. Quite a damning past few months, allows most individuals to understand how this war will end the longer it drags out

And how did Russia capture Avdiivka? It just destroyed everything in the town, took it and hyperbolized it like its Armed Forces took another Donetsk.
It's the worst case scenario, what everyone predicted would happen. Russia can afford the long game. In a war of attrition Russia will win, Ukraine will be run dry on manpower, ammunition and will to continue fighting.
The west didn't do enough to help Ukraine.
The Russian strategy consists of bombing and sending volleys of troops into fortified positions for months and even years. Ukraine gains more than Russia from losing these battles because they can retreat to another city and hold out, draining Russian ammunition and troops. The only way Russia will win this war is they have the support of the people to build hundreds of weapons, have a constant flow of troops, and hope that the West loses interest in the war and stops sending aid.

The tide of the war is well within Russia's favor at the moment. It's best for Ukraine to switch into defensive positions and work on fortifying the frontline to minimize Russian breakthroughs.

Most of fighting happened in 2014 and 2015 then there were onky few skirmishes and then in 2022 Russian invasion came and now Battle of Avdiivka have ended so maybe 4 years, not 10.

I believe that Russia may have an uneasy and partial victory in this war. I have a friend in school who fled Ukraine two years ago, and now we are starting to wonder if he will *ever* go back. It's a huge shame, and the Ukrainians should not suffer. Glory to Ukraine.
