    "Engine was positioned at the front". Not unusual at all! But the front wheel drive was quite revolutionary in 1934!

      The Traction Avant is a well engineered car. One of the most unusual, if not revolutionary features was the "cradle" for the engine that allowed the engine to be removed for service.
      By 1934, several makers had produced front wheel drive cars. Not mentioning pre 1900, three wheelers, very low production, and specialty (mostly racing cars) a partial list might include:
      1929 Cord L29, USA, 4,900 of this model which was made before the other front wheel drive Cords of the 1930s;
      1931-1932 DKF F1, Germany, approximately 4,000 made;
      1932-1938 Adler Trumpf, Germany 25,600 made;
      1934-1939 Adler Trumpf Junior, Germany, over 100,000 made;
      The Traction Avant sold over 750,000 and is certainly more successful than the other cars listed above. It seems possible Citroën may have learned a few things from others before producing their model. Indeed, the Traction Avant deserves the success it had. It's certainly a *_lot_* more practical than the 8.2 litre / 500 CID engined, front wheel drive Cadillac Eldorados I've driven.

    There is no sphere for the "gasoline tank"! It is an accumulator tank for the whole hydraulic system!

    The creators of this video, Slice Experts may want to check the facts in their productions before posting them:
    1. The Citroën Traction Avant certainly was quite remarkable when introduced. It was not the first car with the engine in the front (15 million Ford Model T's and most cars made from 1900 on refute that claim) nor the first with front wheel drive (although, depending on how they define "mass-produced," that claim _might_ stand).
    2. The hydraulic control system does not contain _liquid_ nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen has a boiling point of -196° Celsius, far lower than the air temperature anywhere on planet Earth. Liquid nitrogen would, at the least, boil away while making cracks in the system or, more problematic, explosively rupture the system.
    Certainly, these claims may be inadvertent errors, but when a creative team has the word "experts" in their name, better checking of their final production can be expected.

      I suspect that if we could read the original French text of this documentary it would not contain these egregious errors. It was probably translated by someone with zero technical knowledge or very bad AI.

    first mass produced car with the engine at the front ..... surely not, wasn't the innovation that it drove the front wheels? i.e. the power went to the front wheels, delivering TRACTION. Traction AVANT means traction at the front doesn't it? ... I shan't confuse you anymore by saying Traction at the Van.

      I think it was an error in the translation. It was the first mass produced car with collapsible engine, that moved under the car’s floor in case of crash. Also the first with collapsible steering wheel.

      While I admire the Traction Avant, I am disappointed that the makers of this video didn't catch the very obvious misstatement that the Traction Avant was the first car with the engine positioned in the front. Even if the statement was an AI mistranslation, the creators may have been able to catch this by just listening to the video *_while awake_* .
      I imagine the creators can also say the Traction Avant is the first *_mass-produced_* car with front wheel drive by eliminating the 1929 Cord L-29 with whatever they define as "mass-produced."
      I would hope the creators put in a tiny bit more work to check their final video.
      The present low level of fact checking prevents some from subscribing.

      Commentator should have spent explaining the “backwards layout” driving axles front of the transmission. That was front of the engine layout better. This allowed car be lower and wider then other cars from same era.
      Whole drivetrain package was held in place by four nuts on a bolt studs.

    I'm quite familiar with the parade DS-21 but have never seen that funky 1962 Rambler/Renault Ambassador. Thanks!

    Not until 15 years after its introduction, in 1970, it reached its peak sales. It goes to show how far ahead it was!

    The Critroen DE was a fabulous Car.
    If they made a "Revival DS", I would purchase one.
    In fact, I'am attempting tl find a Classical DS in good shape.
    Unfortunately, they command extremely high prices.
    Vehicles requiring a great deal of restoration are not my cup of tea.
    Although a great deal of serious Car Guys normal pursue that course of action.
    Thank you for a splendid video.

    The adjustment of the height is not the main feature of the system! It is the constant ride height, irrespective of load! That was the main goal of the construction.

    "DS Heritage" is just crap and a bad joke! Nothing without the hydropneumatic suspension could or would be called "DS"!
    Remember: There is only one DS, and that is the original from 1955 to 1975! All others is just trash!

    You renamed a world famous car, because you could not ask, how to pronounce avant??? An leaved the defining word simply unspoken??? And ten americanized traction also?? A the you "invented" a chevron badge, which in reality was the shape Andre`Citroen invented as a shape for silent running gears.
