I think that really brought to a point what really bugs me about psylock. You have to read a lot and prepare a lot to have just a decent turn while if you do the same amount of effort with domino you blast the enemies to the other end of the multiverse
My favorite way to play her is a justice support hero in multiplayer. You can pull skill cards like Float Like a Butterfly and Skilled Investigator to play on everyone at the table while helping maintain board control. Domino goes crazy when every one of her attacks is +1 damage. Her psy-katanas help her control minions on the board, and her psy-knives control schemes, making her really flexible. I've enjoyed doing a repurpose build with her in solo (repurpose is another skill card), but multiplayer is where she really shines for me.
One thing that’s crossed my mind. It’s been reported it takes about two years to bring a hero to market. Two years ago we were in lockdown, on zoom calls, stuck at home. So, although I give this expansion medium to high marks, forced isolation from the design team does explain why I find the whole XForce cycle extremely uneven. It is a heck of a way for Tony to take the reins as lead.
I definitely agree that it feels like she's glued to aggression. That being said, I do absolutely love playing her aggression build but I have a bias for aggression and I enjoy the heroes that want to flip up and down a bit more than the heroes that just want to stay hero the entire time. I think she works really well in justice as well, but because she can handle threat so well, I find cards like Pivotal Moment, Stealth Strike, Sonic Rifle and One Way or Another are better ones to use for her instead of typical justice threat removal.
My favorite is definitely Protection. It has a ton of readies, like What Doesn't Kill Me and Repurpose. I built a deck using those and Tenacity to get big stat basic activations out of her and it feels pretty good!
Really appreciate this review, as I thought I was going crazy seeing all the love online for her. I feel shes strong but not fun, and when you said that comment about doing so much reading for what ended up being 2 damage and confusing the villain, my exact experience. What made it worse, I am sitting at the table with my buddies having so much fun with cable angel and domino and I was struggling. The SPDR comparison was a good one, you don’t feel progressively stronger as well as the panic discard strategy is annoying. I also hate flipping down so maybe she just isn’t for us. Thanks again for your honesty really refreshing to see someone passionate about this game but can keep it real.
Agree whole-heartedly here. I just find her clunky and I don't see much of the fun of her specific 'puzzle'. She'll most likely stay binder fodder for me personally.
Never change. There's always pressure to like a new hero but one of Marvel Champions greatest strengths is how many different playstyle the game can appeal to. Gotta be honest if you wanna make reviews even when it's unpopular.
I definitely like Psylocke more than Fight Club, but yeah…she’s not amazing. I expected her to be my favourite of this cycle, but so far she’s at the bottom. Though I’ll be very surprised if she isn’t above Deadpool when all is said and done.
Ah your comments at the end made your feelings make a lot more sense to me. I came in with x-men, and while I’ve picked up a lot of previous stuff, I’ve never played Spyder or Cap. And so, Psylocke feels very cool and different to me 😊
This is a fair critique, I think if you don't like flipping down, a four hand size hero is never going to be a favorite. I feel like all the confuse is in there so you can flip down for the bigger alter ego hand size more often. How would you compare her play style to Jean as far as psionic characters go? I really love playing Jean in some version or another of your aggression deck, and have tried a similar one with Pyslocke along with honed technique, press the advantage etc which has been fun. I think what I also find fun in Psylocke is being able to enjoy a psionic character with out the threat of a massive nemesis like Dark Pheonix or Stryfe, they kind of kill Jean and Cable for me! Thanks for sharing, I always appreciate your view.
I think Psylocke is getting a little overrated right now owing to the “new” factor. Not only is she a new hero, a fan favorite hero and has a fairly unique play style but she also came with a lot of new toys to play with. Float Like… gives Justice, probably the most stagnant aspect, a whole new way to play. Plus she came with a few new Psionic cards. People are touting her a lot in Aggression which is fair but what I think people might be missing is that practically everything Psylocke brings to Aggression Phoenix can do just as well… if not a little bit better. Psylocke being able to tutor Honed Technique is the only real advantage I see for her over Phoenix Aggression. Phoenix has wild resource generation to play Honed Technique. She has greater durability owing to White Hot Room and Telekinetic Shield. She can run all the same Psionic support and doesn’t worry about keeping her Psimitar in play. She has access to a ready up game that Psylocke wishes she had: Phoenix has two ready events in her kit, can ready from Prof X and can run Utopia with the generally good Aggression X-Men allies (including the Psylocke ally). Her Thwart and Damage events are better than Psylocke’s. Her Thwart event removes one less threat but stuns AND confuses an enemy ; her attack event does equal damage AND has Overkill. Oh and Phoenix can also… go Aerial. Which means she gets Divebomb.
Hello, fairly new to the game and have been watching a lot of your content to learn about the game. Just want to ask, what sleeves are you using? I have been enjoying playing Marvel Champions and I feel like I will be investing a lot of time and money in this game haha, might as well protect my cards well. Thanks and great content! :)
Appreciate the kind words! And I use Dragon Shield. So the heroes get Dragon Shield Clear. The encounter cards get clear matte and my player cards are black matte sleeves. Hopefully that helps!
I would also recommend watching tolarian community college video, about card sleeves to know what is best for you budgetwise. The review is mostly for tcgs like Magic: The Gathering and Yugioh, but if they work for that, then they will work for this too. i dont know if D20 want people to post links, so the titel is Can Any Card Sleeve Defeat Dragon Shield Mattes? Link ua-cam.com/video/-QNcR2_boJY/v-deo.html hope it helps
I don't know how you can actually disparage fight club while simultaneously lifting up 2004 Crash - not even 1996's David Cronenberg's Crash - as the last great movie. I have never came out of a theater feeling more bludgeoned or insulted by a movie. "Sometimes racists aren't bad people and sometimes good people do bad things. " every single scene is just a vignette of someone doing something racist then moving on to the next one only for the last to be saved by her assaulter. Fight Club is an incredibly mid movie that suffers from its fans and being an adaptation of that hack Chuck Palahniuk, but Fincher's movie may as well be Citizen Kane next to that embarrassing, stilted, patronizing mess of a movie that Haggis pooped out. Holy Christ. I even mostly agreed with the metaphor but it was difficult to swallow with the setup of Crash as the last great movie. We've got Villeneuve, Eggars... Marty is still working. Tarantino still has one left in the tank. Alex Garland. Lynne Ramsay. Bong Joon-ho. Park Chan-wook. Neil Breen is releasing a movie this year. I'm shook.
I didn’t lift up crash. I am saying that movies are bad ever since crash won. I didn’t mean after crash won. I personally think crash is one of the worst movies made and was the downfall of the academy because it should have never been nominated. Let alone win. And if you compare fight club to crash. Yes. Fight club is GOATed compared to crash. Sorry if that didn’t come across correctly
@D20Woodworking no I'm a dumbass. I suddenly realized that what you could have meant was that, that was the beginning of the end. Sorry for the hostility. Everyone is due their opinion but I was having a hard time believing anyone liked Crash. I think we mostly agree in that case and I'm just kind of a dork for going that hard on it. In embarrassed of myself but mostly relieved. Noone in my circle takes the Oscar's seriously. I think by their own admission they don't even watch all the nominees.
It's all good, brother. Plus there may have been other people I confused with how I worded it and now the record can be set straight. CRASH IS TERRIBLE. haha.@@pacer2310
As i mentioned in the poll, Psylocke has quickly risen to my top 5 heroes. But i get some of the criticism, especially with your playstyle and only doing true solo. She's not your style, and that's fine. Luckily there is no shortage of decks to pick, play what you like!
That's what makes the game in such a good spot right now. We have such variety that if not every hero "meets my needs" it doesn't matter (nor does it have to) We have so many different options. And if I want to try a different play style, now I can!
I love versatile heroes, she is a specialist type (I admit quite flexible but still a specialist one) so she will never be in my top. Cerebro is crazy with her. I probably appreciate her slightly more than you but yeah, she isn't thaaaat amazing.
I wouldn't say she isn't versatile. There's tons of different and unique builds with her, in each aspect. But they generally all either revolve around 1 of 3 things: confuse, psionic, or skills. So I guess that kind of pigeon holes her a bit? But it's a pretty big hole
@@heroicskeleton1566 From deckbuilding perspective I agree but from villain perspective she can't handle well Steady and Stalwart enemies. Her speciality is to confuse.
@@heroicskeleton1566 It might depend on how you play the game. I like to make one strong deck to defeat as many villains as possible and from this perspective she is more limited than other heroes for me because building to her strength make her ultra weak for Steady/Stalwart.
@TAC3O I think you are probably overstating her weakness to steady/stalward. You'll have to change the playstyle, but I think she handles them pretty well. Against steady she actually can pump out enough confuse to still somewhat lock the villain too. And there are a lot of non confuse based builds for her that are more versatile.
I have only played her two handed and completely disagree with the "meh" rating. I think there's some pretty interesting things you are missing but I'm not sure if those things work in true solo. I do agree about Fight Club though. It's fine. It's entertaining. It may even give you a whole new perspective to consider. But it's definitely not one of the best ever made.
I'm fairly easy to please, you seem to be quite the opposite and that's perfectly fine either way. I'm not basing this on just this video, but you said it yourself, that before Domino, the last hero you really enjoyed was Scarlet Witch I believe, which was a really long time ago. Corrent me if I'm wrong. I like her because of two reasons. First, she's Psylocke, one of my favorite X-Men characters. But more importantly, second, she's flexible. The fact that I can change her stats to fit the situation is great and yes, her confuse game goes out of the window once she's facing a stalwart enemy, but you can just simply adjust her deck. Instead of confusing, I'll just deal a lot of damage in aggression with Honed Technique to strengthen my aggression cards and Aggressive Energy, making my Flurry of Blades deal 9 damage. Or, I can just build a Repurpose build to keep myself healthy if the villain hits too hard including cards like Hard Knocks and What Doesn't Kill Me. Justice can work too, if the enemy is not stalwart, the new Float Like a Butterfly increases my damage output by a lot and there are some pretty decent damaging cards in Justice. To me, a hero doesn't have to do something absolutely crazy. If that was the case, I'd play like 5-6 heroes and wouldn't play nearly as much with the game as I do now. I just find simple things to enjoy and I'm able to be content with that with all honesty. She's not my favorite hero for sure, but she's still in my top 10.
I prefer to think of this as an X-Force pack. Cable loves the support in here. Psylocke herself I've never been a fan of. She's just the "hot ninja waifu". Yawn.
Fantasy Flight, give us Dardevil, Ghost Rider, Punisher & Blade already!!!
And moon knight, JJ, iron fist and power man.
And F4 and all spidey villains!!!
Bad mouthing Fight Club out of the gate…. Not a good start.
I loved Fight Club... In high school
I think that really brought to a point what really bugs me about psylock.

To play? The core box ones are great. Captain marvel in particular. To buy? Probably captain America or venom
