      Will wait to hear your thoughts on some of the sentiments in this video, especially the idea of not actively driving your knees outwards since you seemingly squat this way yourself (knees 'forward'). I think it's pretty ingrained technical advice so these contrasting thoughts would be an interesting discussion for sure

    That’s super interesting. Especially the ratios information. I’m definitely limited by my strength, currently. I’ve been working exclusively on my jerk for 9 months - because of my ruined shoulders, it was catastrophically far behind my clean. Hopefully, when I test it next Thursday, it will finally be at the same weight as my best clean - which is about 87.5% of my best front squat: which lines up perfectly with the 1.16 ratio. My limiting factor is now quad strength - or rather my lack of quad strength! I guess that should be my next focus!

      @@getstrongby4038 I’m trying not too! Cheers, dude. I think I’ve made peace with the fact that I’m in my early forties, and not strong, and as such - I’m not likely to get much stronger. I like the movements though, and they are stopping me from physically deteriorating. But, I have always been good at learning movement patterns, and have good mobility, so trying to be an efficient lifter, and working on my ratios, has kind of become my main goal. If I can improve my snatch percentages next year - I’ll be happy. It’s trying tricky because I train at home, and can’t drop the weights. A lot of my work is wasted putting things down safely - that’s harder for me to do with heavy snatches, than it is with the clean and jerk. I’m just going to keep chipping away at it though!

    • @getstrongby4038
      @getstrongby4038 2 роки тому +1

      @@nickwysoczanskyj785 no problem have you ever tried gaining weight? Maybe a pure strength phase with some extra calories could push your squat up?
      I'm terrible at snatching/clean and jerk so I just stick to strength training, I can push press more than I can clean ffs 😆

    • @nickwysoczanskyj785
      @nickwysoczanskyj785 2 роки тому +2

      @@getstrongby4038 I think you’re right. I am gaining weight slowly. I was built like a stick - I’ve gained about 7-8 kg over the last year and a bit. I was chronically underweight. It’s certainly helped. And I’m trying to see if I can gain more. A dedicated hypertrophy and strength block would definitely help. I think that’s my next plan. I figure if I can improve my front squat and strict press numbers - I will likely gain some upwards movement in my C&J. I know that I can squeeze more out of my efficiency in the snatch, as my technique isn’t as good as my C&J; but I definitely need to get stronger if I want to clean and jerk more. I’ll have to start planning out a decent strength phase! 👍

    So what’s your view on his first statement on knees slightly in getting out of the hole?

    • @matthewmckee6289
      @matthewmckee6289 2 роки тому +2

      Having the knees being more straight forward allows for greater quad utilisation and better stimuli. Having knees pushed out father and wide doesn’t give you the same stimuli, or leg drive
      While it may not be the absolute best way to squat the most weight, it is what will have the most transfer over the Snatch and C&J.

    I could definitely be wrong, but since dorsiflexion requires tibial internal rotation I imagine this could add to some knee valgus.
    I'm a powerlifter but squat with a narrow stance and feet mostly straight and the only way I can hit depth is by cueing my knees in slightly, altho I dont actually have any visible valgus

    Snatch max should probably be around half of your max conventional deadlift or 2/3 of your max back squat but since olympic lifters don't focus on maxing at back squats or conventional deadlifts, those are only rough estimates. Gabriel works in close contact with lifters and his knowledge is world class. I guess his numbers were pretty close to those marks when he competed at the Olympics. Great upload, guys!
