      My father used to repair eye doctors equipment. I can't tell you how many times he told me about charging $250 because they forgot to turn the power on or change the light bulb. The only thing a PhD does is prove you paid a lot of money for a piece of paper.

      @@darklordcain2649 From the Dr's point of view it was worth it to hire the technician. Their own lost productivity could very easily exceed that $250 billing if dealing with the issue themselves. If I ran a hospital I would not want my PHDs troubleshooting gear that I can have a tech manage.

    My son went to college for computer game design and development. He was 2nd in his graduating class. He CHOSE to continue studying other computer languages via on line tutorials and other resources. He is now fluent in 12 computer languages. Charlie is absolutely right. If you want knowledge you can find it. Too many students are too lazy to do that.

    Dropped out of school at age 16, got GED, worked hard for others, opened my own business at age 33. I'll match wits and IQ with 75% of college educated geniuses.

Read their mission statement.. it always says something like “we strive to provide quality education in a diverse environment which fulfills our student’s needs for successful careers”, That’s BS! Truth is, they want MONEY! If you teach, great! BUT… if you want to keep your job, you HAVE to bring in research dollars. (Publish or perish). That’s what earns your salary. Students are only just a necessary distraction from us being featured on prestigious, glossy cover magazines because we have strong research ($$$$) programs. The more glossy covers you get on, the better your chances are to go to a more prestigious (more $$$$) institution.
      And of course.. a great football or basketball team is ALWAYS more important than actually teaching a quality curriculum. Don’t even get me started in that huge drain of money and wasting a decent education opportunity for athletes in most competitive institutions.

      I have a masters degree where there was a culture diversity class I had to take that did try to teach me what to think (only whites can be racist) and I challenged them. The professor just told me I was wrong. All other students just sat and listened and didn't respond. It was one class I remember being this way (but it was 20 years ago). So I could see that more classes may be this way today and different colleges are probably different.

It’s akin to a magician performing a trick-making it seem like he knows the card you picked or can read your mind.       i started working at 12yrs old i use to get up at 5am help set up a market stall by 7am would be left to run the stall by myself until 5pm pack it all up and get home for 7pm have dinner and sit at knitting machine knitting hats and scarfs until midnight to be sold at the football stadiums during football season
      as the eldest child it fell upon me to help support my mother and siblings

      @@dignerds Here is the problem there. 1) illegal entry or work is a crime 2) illegal immigrants are easily exploited because they are less likely to enforce their rights or report exploitation by employers or criminals out of fear of retaliation from the very law enforcement agencies they are seeking help from. It is mostly number 2 that makes me anti illegal immigration. The fix is actually pretty simple, start prosecuting employers who hire clearly ineligible workers and require employers to use electronic I-9 verification services offered by the federal government. It is really not hard to stop most illegal aliens from working.

      I believe one of the founding fathers never went either. I Know writer Samuel Clemmens didn't finish grade school but wrote tons of classics. These students act as if education equal intelligence. When countless historic figures, inventors, leaders, artists, musicians, writers, and so on revolutionized the world.

The students believe a degree makes someone more qualified or going to college makes someone more qualified. Neither of those things makes someone more or less qualified for most career fields. Tatjana was giving an example of someone who didn't go to or finish college yet went on to do great things.

    I hate hearing black people tell people like me how "privileged" I am. How I owe them money because of the things my ancestors did. Things I don't benefit from. I don't own my own home or land despite having a decent job, I barely own anything. Everything I have I EARNED or SUFFERED for. In the place I work there is a variety of cultures and backgrounds, and make no mistake, many of the non-white people I work with are just better at their jobs than me. They put in the WORK. They don't whine about privilege.
    The sooner these complainers realize they are getting less results because they are putting in less effort, the better.

    My son is a self taught coder. Never took a single class in college. He loved video games and spent 10 years working up the ranks in the “coding” industry. Now he designs simulation training for Caterpillar equipment company. Kinda like a video game… right? He makes hella GREAT money, and he can work anywhere in the world that has a low latency internet connection. He travels.. and works, and makes well over a 6 digit income.

    I cannot believe there was a time where i used to act this way. Im genz and 18 and since i was 10 i was conditioned and groomed to act like these people. Now being an adult and realizing i was wrong and not mentally maturing in anyway is scary. They take advantage of the youth in such a weird way.       With the internet being a huge thing, I have no idea why a lot of degrees are even needed anymore. Someone can self research and fully know what they're talking about and get a job without a degree. Things like being a doctor of course needs a degree.

    Education and intelligence are two entirely separate subjects or issues. Intelligence (IQ) is innate, education is acquired. Ones IQ does not change from ones first day in school to their graduation day (beyond 3-5 points ie statistical noise) by virtue of that education.

      @ I, too, often get strong emotions when confronted with something I don't like. But there is a saying in my country: "Noticing is the first step towards betterment". So with noticing my issues I can take steps towards adressing them or like you said "understand and improve". Taking a step back, calming down and looking at the topic from a new perspective, allwoing me to rethink the topic logically.

    I'm 47 years old and successful. I didn't go to college either AND I've never been to high school! I barely got through middle school, got kicked out for fighting. Then I grew up. Worked since 2000. I was on my day off when 9/11 happened, saw it on TV.

    I finished highschool, got to a college in Switzerland, graduated with 3.74 GPA, got into an amazing 12 months management internship, worked in one of the best branded companies in the world in my industry, and was always paid better than the staff without college. My college knowledge has helped me to progress in my career like I have never imagined... Now I reached an executive position in my organisation, the company pays not only my salary but also private education for both of my children, international medical insurance and amazing coverage, 15% of my gross pay is paid to Fidelity retirement fund, my apartment rental and living expenses fully covered.... I would say, going to college is like going to gym... you need to put in an effort to get the most out of it!
