His 1978 solo album was not only the most successful of the 4, but the best sounding, had the best songs, and his cover was the coolest looking. He stuck to his rock n roll roots while the others mistakenly went more contemporary ways musically. Paul and Gene were extremely jealous of that fact, and Peter was neutral cause he was close with Ace. As a professional drummer myself, my favorite of the group was always Ace, and found myself gravitating towards his songs in the band. He's a riffmeister !

Ace Frehley was and should be a big important part of KISS. Back in the 70s I went to see Kiss in Concert. Ace put on the best show I ever saw. He played that guitar like he was in his own little world...I loved it. Ace is and will always ever be the only Spaceman. No one can ever replace him. He is the greatest. And yes Ace has made mistakes, he isn't perfect. He drank too much, did drugs. But he is the best at what he does and that's performing. He's a great singer, songwriter. And plays that guitar like no other.

Every one of his solo albums offer some really solid original musicianship and song writing. Paul and Gene overlooked this fact as they should have tried to work harder keeping Ace part of KISS much longer not allowing their personalities push Ace away from the band.

@Scott Masson not really... and you can't count the current " kiss" lineup because he's being note for note imitated . The Creatures through revenge Era are only liked by mega fans. ( I admittedly like some of these) .
I don't think he's the driving force. I think he is the best guitar player for kiss but Bruce and Vinnie were better guitar players. With the current lineup they sound like shit.

The 'talk box' is ALL guitar - not talking or singing.
The guitar amp feeds a small driver in the box on the floor. That driver sends the guitar sound up through the tube. With the tube placed in the side of the mouth, the guitar sound is blasting into the players mouth. As with speaking, the shape of the mouth is what forms the sound of letters and words, so the guitar sound gets 'shaped' the same as sounds coming from the throat, but the player is NOT speaking at all. It is only the sound of the guitar that is then picked up by the vocal microphone the same as if the player was singing.
So while the guitar is being used this way, the guitar speakers aren't doing anything. The sound the audience hears is entirely from the vocal mic picking up the sound in the players mouth. That's it.

I had a new friend Randy Whatley( his dad was right by the flag at night on iwo jima) randy brought kiss records and I first learned about their " persona ". I had already taken acoustic lessons at 9 years old and they released RRO the next month. Then the summer of 77? Kc casum top 40 dr.love solo? I had to get an electric! Santa brought me my first electric I just turned 14 christmas of 77. Kiss taught me electric. Funny though it would be 5 more years before I had another teacher( zep officiando) teach me scales. Then I redissected my kiss albums and finally I learned alot of spaceman and learned each members vocals that I had never really paid attention to . One thing I learned about their singin is if wanna sing like peter criss you better learn how to sing like rod stewart first

I really enjoyed this. Ace was always the heart and soul of Kiss, the guy who never too the whole thing too seriously and loved to laugh! Just a minor correction, being from Connecticut- I think you said Ace recorded his 1978 solo album in “Shannon” Connecticut, I respectfully want to point out that I think you mean “Sharon?” I don’t think Connecticut has a Shannon, and we wouldn’t want to send all the Kiss Army kids on a wild goose chase if they go on a Pilgrimage to see the house Ace recorded at! 😀

You hit it on the head: Rock and Roll is NOT suppose to be taken too seriously. R and R is suppose to be one giant middle finger to the world, first and foremost! And is why parents back in the day were not so keen their children liking that "Devil Music"! LOL There is no such thing as Good or Evil music. Just Good or Bad music!

Ace freely, and Peter Criss made that Band , if it wasn’t for them, they would have never existed..
They would’ve never been the man that they became if it wasn’t for Peter Chris and Ace freely, and their most famous songs are from the air that those two guys were in the Band

Wow, obviously don’t know much about kiss then. If you think ace and Peter were responsible for the success of kiss you know nothing. Fact is without Paul, gene and bill aucoin Kiss would never have been successful. Peter was and is a mediocre drummer at best, his lack of career after kiss proves that, no one came knocking on his door when he left. Ace was no different. His early success with frehleys comet was all Todd howarth not ace, ace was too smashed through all that period. after that bad split ace never really did anything, he was a club and small arena player, now he is a support act who makes cover song albums because he can’t write anything good. Whilst gene and Paul are selling out stadiums all across the world making millions, I love ace and his contribution on early kiss records are great, but his addiction destroyed would could have been something great.

I can't imagine what that level of fame must feel like. I'm sure along with it being absolutely great in some areas, there must be a lot of pressure as well. People deal with that pressure in many different ways, and a lot of it is self destructive, no doubt.

The solos were awful, but Ace’s guitar was fine. Then came the disco song. I was devastated. With the capes. And the feathers. One day I saw a picture of Paul in a halter top. I had to move to another town where no one knew me.
