This only works if the shoulders are correct. Most of the time tshirts have shoulders that hang way to long on the arm. You would need to cut the sleeves off.
I order 2xl shirts and make them tshirt dresses/tunics. I always want my butt covered. Everyone should try it! I love the walmart graphic tshirts. Just buy bigger, then do this, but not on the length part. otherwise you'd just buy a smaller shirt.

It should be pretty similar for long sleeves. If the sleeves already fit well, you would want to transition near the armpit. If the sleeves are too baggy, you can go all the way down the sleeve to slim them down. If you’re unsure maybe grab something from the thrift store to test with.
I've heard people who take sewing classes have the teacher always tell them to so that everything is precise and you're marking evenly and exactly where you need to on the shirt for sewing or cutting

Projects like this are good practice for general sewing skills and also alterations. I'm in the middle of a similar alteration and there's no end to how much I can screw it up 😂 So I need the practice.
Or.... why not learn a new skill? Say you have a favourite shirt u want to give to a kid/friend/partner/whoever and theyre a differejt size to you, now u can give a very personal gift that fits them. Bam. Skills
