This sparked a Sweet 16 run for Princeton and they really represented the Ivy League well. Arizona, meanwhile, added on to the list of choke jobs they’ve had in the tournament ever since winning their one championship in 1997 and being runner ups in 2001. However, then being the first 2 seed to lose to a 15 seed twice doesn’t help.
1993: Lost to Santa Clara 64-61 by a team led by Steve Nash who eventually became an all time NBA great
1995: Lost to 12 seed Miami 91-82
1999: Lost to 13 seed Oklahoma 61-60
2000: Lost to 8 seed Wisconsin 66-59 in second round as a 1 seed
2005: Blew a 15 point lead with 4 minutes left in the Elite Eight to Illinois
2016: Lost to 11 seed Wichita State 65-55
2018: Blown out by 13 seed Buffalo 89-68
2023: Lost to 15 seed Princeton 59-55 to become the first team to lose to a 15 seed twice
I still think the loss in ‘05 is still worse than this one even though I would say this is a close second and I would say the Santa Clara loss is the third worst loss they’ve ever had.
