    ✅Thanks so much for watching! ✌✌✌
    ⚠IMPORTANT NOTES WHEN WORKING WITH DISCOUNTS AND SALE PRICES⚠
    ✅This video used US currency in the examples, but discounts and sale prices can be calculated using this method with other currencies as well.
    ✅Money always goes to the hundredths place when we have change. For example, #1 gives us an answer of 10.2 when we multiply 68 x 0.15. I wrote the discount as $10.20 because money goes to the hundredths place when we have change. $10.2 does NOT mean $10 and 2 cents, it means $10 and 20 cents, so we write it as $10.20. On the other hand, if you get a decimal that goes past the hundredths place, for example 15.83845, then it needs to be rounded to the hundredths place. That decimal would round to $15.84. Something to keep in mind.

    For an easier explanation:
    1. Covert the percentage to a decimal form by moving the decimal to the left twice.
    2. multiply them
    3 with the multiplication answer, minus it from the original price.

    I don’t know if this works every time like this method, or if it’s as accurate. However, my teacher taught me, what I believe, is a different method ?
    You basically subtract the percentage from 100, divide that given number by 100, and then multiply it with the amount of money given.
    For example : for question 2, you would subtract 40 from 100, giving you 60.
    - After that, you would divide 60 from 100, giving you 0.6.
    - And then finally, you would multiply 0.6 with $219.95, giving you the answer, $131.97.

  • @tinasalmon3482
    @tinasalmon3482 4 місяці тому

    It could be easier...
    Pretend the percentage is actually a whole number, then take the number 100 and subtract your whole number (%) from it , add a decimal in font of that difference, then multiply the % and price. The reason I believe this is better is because subtracting % from 100 is usually easier due to the fact that %'s mostly come in easy to subtract numbers like 15, 20, 35, and so on. Allowing most your work to be done in your head vs the other way. However doing it the way shown in this videos allows you to come up with HOW much will be discounted and this method skips that.
    EXAMPLE:
    Problem: 15% off of $68 = ?
    1) 100 - 15 = 85
    2) (add decimal in front) 85 ---> .85
    3) $68 * .85 = $57.80
    *if % is higher than 100 this won't work*

  • @stevess356
    @stevess356 10 місяців тому

    To do it in your head is real simple. Use the 40 percent off example and figure it like this. Use ten percent off the price and multiply it times four. 10 percent off of 219.95 is 21.99. "simply move the decimal point one over" I round it to "22" x 4 = 88 off. "NO PAD, PENCIL OR CALCULATOR"
