- Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates are my favorite humbucking pickups. In this video I’ll tell you why I love them so much as well as play some tones that show off their incredible versatility.

I've got 3 SG's now and I've replaced the pickups in all 3. I went with a set of Seth Lover's in the SG Tribute (with 50's wiring in place of the PCB), a set of Pearly Gates in the SG Standard (also with 50's wiring and push/pulls for coil splitting), and Saturday Night Specials in an SG Modern. All 3 sound great in their own right, but my favorite is the Standard with the Pearly Gates. Great sound and tonal versatility.
I’ve been so curious about out the Saturday night specials. How do they sound compared to the PG’s?
Thank you for the nice review. This PUs can be wire for splitting. I have my neck PU with a push-pull knob for that. And oh God, rolling back the volume control of your splitted neck PU is another level of versatility, as if you were playing another guitar.
Thanks! Good to hear that they split well too.
Sounds awesome!
Thanks for the video. I'm getting ready to buy a set of pearly gates. You pushed me over the edge. No turning back now.
Thanks for watching! You’re gonna love ‘em.
This is the video I've needed to make my decision. Thank you! Liked, subscribed and hit the notification bell.
Thanks so much!
Great video man! Sounds great! This pickup came in my Hello Kitty Stat and I was curious about it, so here I am! Good review!
Thanks for watching!
Sounds fantastic! Great video
Thanks for watching!
Zaney yes. I did hear exactly what you described. Good illustration and presentation. I like the neck tones for sure. I have ordered a Duncan Pearly Gates Neck for my Les Paul.
Thanks for watching! That’s gonna sound great in your Les Paul.
Nice looking axe. Great find and great mods!
Thanks! I love it.
Great video and thank you for showing us the sustain! That Washburn is a beaut!
Thanks for watching!
I have PG's in my PRS Bernie. They will never come out. Love them!!
Those Bernie’s are great guitars. Thanks for watching!
Nice review. I’ve installed, jeez 4 or 5 guitars this past year. And every one sounded terrific.
Thanks for watching!
I have white one i got at a pawn shop and its one of my favorite guitars and like the pickups that came with it and i love it
It’s a great guitar for the money. Total SG killer IMO.
Man those pickups have growl , love them, great video 🤟😎
Thanks for watching!
My favourite too! and ive tried loads,
I had a Washburn N2 and it was fantastic! I regret letting it go.
I’m not a fan of locking nut/Floyd style guitars but the N2 stayed in tune with very little fuss. It sounded good and played like a dream. Rock solid guitar.
The shape of those N2’s must make it feel super comfortable. I love the neck joint as well.
I was die hard DiMarzio only player for years. Strictly SD Pearly Gates for a long time now. Just put a set on my Epiphone Traditonal II LP, with Bournes pots, 50s wired. So, so sweet.
lol i put some in a really nice playing looking chibson epiphone is it worth changing the pots harness? thx
I never replace the pickups without upgrading the electronics as well.
@@jasonlevey5164 Absolutely! I tend to always use Bornes pots, 50s wired, with either Orange Drop or vintage style capacitors. Plus I ALWAYS replace the pickup toggle with a Switchcraft switch.
I have Gibson 57 classics in my Epi standard, and I am considering installing Pearly Gates. I'm not sure what to exp in terms of change. I'm assuming the PG's are a bit brighter.
Perhaps a bit brighter, but you’ll get more clarity, especially in the neck pickup. If you end up switching them out be sure to upgrade the electronics too. It makes all the difference.
Excellent presentation, You sold me on Seymour pickups. What kind of setup are you playing through. it sounds awesome.
Thanks! In this video I’m just using my Washburn WI64 plugged straight into a Fender Mustang GTX100.
Once you get into good humbuckers, and especially if you're upgrading a guitar that came with cheap crap, they're all going to sound great, but I've been very curious about these.
I've got some Seth Lovers in an SG type guitar (D'Angelico Brighton Deluxe) and the articulation of these PGs reminds me of the SLs. I'd probably just choose the set with the best price.
I’ve been curious about the Seth lovers. Heard they sound great in Semi hollow guitars.
Thanks a zillion sir for this review. Really helpful. BTW, great playing! ;-) how is this Washburn model named? Is it Korean?
Thanks so much! This is a Washburn WI-64. They are made in Korea. Fantastic guitars.
@@blazeofglory1982 thank you thank you, just looking for the PU for mine Washburn - HB30)) It is amazing how Chuck Berryish it sounds even unplugged. 2003 I guess. Comparing to SD Antiquities, looks like Pearly Gates are more versatile yet mellow.
Thanks for the video! I have a 2022 stratocastor and I am considering buying these for both the neck and bridge pickup. can I leave the middle single coil pickup as is?
Sure thing! Yeah you can def keep the middle single coil. I’m growing to like HSH configurations.
@@blazeofglory1982 Thank you sir!
I have a Pearly gates in the neck of my les Paul and a dirty fingers in the bridge and it’s not a good match. The pearly gates is great for cleaner stuff but not in high gain situations would be great for blues/jazz and lower gain stuff like ac/dc but not if ur playing a 6505+ or a dual rec with gain way up.
Jennifer Batten plays Washburn...pretty sure she still does anyway. Best Regards!
They make good stuff!
How long have you been playing, practice time
I’ve been playing for 27 years. I practice daily. Sometimes for 20 and sometimes for hours. Whatever I can get in really.
Is your neck pickup low or high.. Thank you..
I’d say it’s set at a normal distance. Neither high nor low. The pickups are high output so they very touch sensitive.
I am looking for pups for a LP, and have a gazillion questions. Outside of looks, did the zebras change the sound? You went stock, any reasons you stayed away from the CS variety? The CS are 100 more i dont know if its justified.
I find uncovered pickups give the guitar a more open and louder sound than covered pickups. I might go with covered pickups if I were looking for something with less output. I got the stock pearly gates after reading so many good reviews and also playing them in another guitar.
I wouldn’t say it’s worth it to go CS. The stock pickups are mass produced where as the CS shop are specifically hand wound for you. If I wanted something like that I’d go Lollar or Bareknuckle pickups.
@@blazeofglory1982 Thanks for the quick reply, my finallist are the Pearly Gates or the Kloppmann 59. But your demo sounds amazing.
@@blazeofglory1982 Btw, how they compare with burstbuckers 1 & 2? I have those and do not enjoy them at all, i feel them muddy and unbalanced.
Compared to the burst buckets, they’re a little brighter and overall more articulate.
Where are you finding these for 85 each is the real question
Reverb!
@@blazeofglory1982 things must have changed.. unless you got them used
They were open box.
