- 69 Baywindow. Floor removal.
Let's pull up this floor so we can properly access the frame and assess the condition.
In this video I will show the drilling of the spot welds and the removal of the cross members.
We will also take a look at a few pieces of new metal.
This was an excellent video Stephan. I’m watching closely and learning. I really like your approach and thought process. You’re making my new build better all the time! Thank you!!
Thanks for the words of encouragement brother Bill ! This VW stuff is new to me, I'm trying to go One step at a time.
Outstanding video my friend!!! I need the binge watch and catch up on your videos
Thank you Sir !!! Appreciate that.
Were we’re going, we don’t need floors. You’re making killer progress 🤙🤙🤙
Haha. Yep. Thanks for the support !!
Great video with a ton of information. Keep at it. You're doing an outstanding job.
Thank you my friend !!!
Coming along nicely Stephan, that sure is the right way to fix that! Great Video!!
Thank you Jason !! I appreciate it. Just hope I can piece it back together !
Great progress!
Thank you !!!
Things always seem to work out - ain't that the truth? Thanks for sharing Stephan - it's going to look great when finished. 👍
Thank you Jerry ! 👍👍👍
Good move on removing floor, will make it a lot easier to tackle the repair jobs. Panels these days are very thin ,hope they all fit ok good luck Stephen
Thanks Andy ! Yes. It's the only way. I appreciate your support !
You're doing great Stephan! 😁👍 Keep pushing forward my friend. Its a shame some of the parts were shipped incorrectly, I hope the company makes it right though. 🔧
Thank you Sir !!! I appreciate the support !! Glad your posting again !
Lots of work, great job !
Thanks Paul !
Great job brother
Thank you !!!
I would install the jack points. Looks original and will increase value to anyone that knows buses. They are good to jack on and also to attach a side step
Good advice Stan. I have the original jack so why not ?
Thank you !
Wow. Thats alot of work. But from seeing your past on the Comet. It will go swiminingly.
Good job on the videos. Time for a video of shelf installation in the house garage to get all the future parts onto?
Haha. Thanks Michael! You know I'm not that organized lol.
I'm getting better though. New tool boxes. Metal storage lockers
Welding table and grinder.
I no longer keep my tools piled on the floor lol 😂
Good job sir
Thanks Ed ! I appreciate it
A tool you might want is a spot welder from princess auto, they work so good.
I was actually looking at those !
@@pstreetgarage7304 yup! they work great! just clean the metal on both sides of each part and you are good to go.
Hi Stephan,Quit a bit of spotweld removal the floor came nicly out not to much damage may be useble for eventually repairs, just want to mention if you bore out the spotwelds when hitt the outriggers then tje rustpowder came up than it`s time to stop if not you going treu the mettal.Klokkerhols os not the best metall provider never fits as it should lot of extra work.take a peak on BBT,Belgium, they have just the best parts .Further on great progress you douing well🇨🇦🍀👍🏻.Greetings.Hubertus.🇳🇴🇳🇱🙏🏻👍🏻☮🇨🇦
Thank you Hubertus ! Yes it was alot of drilling. And you are correct about the rust powder when drilling, I realized that after a while. Thanks for watching and thank you for the advice !
Cheers 🇨🇦
@@pstreetgarage7304You are very welcome.🙏🏻
Nice
you have a tube for heat, large centre one insulated, small ones are for e brake x2, clutch, throttle, and 2 for heater control cables and the shift tube too
Heater controls yes! Couldn t figure that one out
Lots of spot welds to deal with. But it all takes time.
Thanks Frank. Yes was alot of drilling but went well. Cheers !
No going back now. You are in it for the long haul. If that one piece behind the front wheel is just flat, why not use it as a pattern and make your own with thicker metal. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait til you clean up that metal. Try using a flap disk. Works better than a wire wheel. Also check out vagabonders. I think he did a flour replacement. I think you’re gonna have to cut all those guide tubes. Or they might sell replacement ones.
Hey ! Thanks for watching, Yes I'm in pretty deep now but I think it's the only way.
I was told by several people not to touch the shift tube but to cut the top hats and reweld them. I think that's a good Idea.
I do watch Vagabonders. He is very skilled, I have my flap disks ready to go ! I can't wait to see what I'm left with.
Moving right along,
Thanks Brian ! I saw your last vid of the car going to the crusher. The body looked ok
@@pstreetgarage7304 it wasn't too bad, but I was just after the mustang II front suspension that was under it. Hopefully next week or so I'll get to working on the comet
@@briankalfus598 hope you post !
I'm amazed how many places are they welded.
It's kind of a strange set up. I'm learning lol.
Heyyy bro! Like #21
Looks like your hard at it, man. This van is going to look really good in the end. Keep it up! 💪💪💪
Thank you Sir !!! I appreciate it.
@@pstreetgarage7304 👍👍👍
you can cut the top hats in half at the shift tube so you can put them in from each side and weld it back together after. There is a metal layer that goes down in front of the first top hat too. it is part of the cab section.
Thank you Don !!! I appreciate you watching. I was thinking I could cut the top hats but wasn't 100 percent.
Quick question. You are in Ottawa region correct ? Orleans maybe ?
@@pstreetgarage7304 yes Ottawa area, south west end.
@@VWAdventures9905 I was in Orleans last week. Neighborhood looked very similar. It was Luna being unloaded.
Next time you are up this way I’ll come meet you😊
@@VWAdventures9905 Yes!
The cross members have square cut outs at the top edge to allow the small control tubes to pass through.
Yes I spotted that. Will make life easier for sure
I just saw CIP1 has autocracft cargo floor cross members! Those are the heavy metal ones!
I (eye) beam style 211801381C
Top hat 211801361D
Boxed rear one 211801371
@@VWAdventures9905 2 weeks ago the top hats were sold out. It's how I ended up with the Klokers 🙄
My issue now is that my front cross member from Concept 1 is too narrow ? I am contacting them again today
@@pstreetgarage7304 make sure you order the one for 68 to 71, they are different after 73. My bus, (72) takes the 68-71 part….
I ordered 2 heavy cargo floor cross members (top hat style) and a boxed one, (rear one) this morning. I’m going to cut out the half top hat I put in and replace it with this heavy one.
@@VWAdventures9905 Makes sense. I was wondering if the rear tophat was suppose to be boxed in. Now I know
Looks like major surgery 👍
It is ! Fun though and at least with this one, parts are more readily available.
@@pstreetgarage7304 that’s always a good thing. Some of the cars I work on parts are impossible to get.
