I bought a Pixel 4XL second-hand from Facebook Marketplace in August 2022 for US $150 in excellent condition. I used it on a 16 month overland trip from Alaska to Argentina. That was a lot of photos, watching video and internet! I still use to the phone today, it has been excellent. Main issue is battery - when using it on the road I wouldn't trust it to last a full day. That was never an issue as I always had a powerbank with me. Back in the West, I only notice the battery when on a long drive using sat nav, it eats battery. An odd issue I hadn't expected was that it was impossible to get a replacement case for it all through Central and South America, as it was never released there. I thought I would make a lot of use of the e-SIM capability, but ended up wishing I had 2 physical SIM slots instead, as eSIM just wasn't competitive with local SIMs. Photo quality and video quality were always excellent. I've been and continue to be very happy with the phone.
Literally just upgraded from this phone to a Pixel 8. The 4 has the best face unlock ever and that's the main thing I miss. I love the 8 but battery is honestly about the same cause I didn't go with the pro
Solid upgrade to the Pixel 8. I think it's also smaller than the Pixel 4 XL due to slimmer bezels. And yess, I love the Face Unlock on this phone. Battery life should be better on the Pixel 8. Shocking that's it's the same as a 4 year old android.
@@TechWizPrince battery life is actually worse if you use the 5G but about the same on LTE. 7 years of software updates and the sale they were having sold me on it. The 4XL really should have continued to get software updates because it keeps up with Pixels up to the 8 on geekbench which is wild.
Yes. That's something I forgot to account for. 5g is battery draining. Plus you also get a much brighter display which uses more battery. As for the updates, this phone at least should have received Android 14. Sucks that it didn't.
@@meroinheroinI think you should wait more few days, after update they should fix draining issue and should be improved as all we have seen in 6a, significantly improved.
Am still using it and it's great on custom Rom Android 14 great cameras and performance,I recommend if you are going to use custom Rom on it,even has circle to search and many pixel 8 features
I still remember pre ordering P4 for $800 just for it to drop by $200 in less than a month. I stopped getting Pixels on release unless they have a pre order bonus. It still works fine except for the NFC because of the back. P4 has definitely the worst build quality on a Google phone, the edges of the phone started peeling off and it turns out it's something to do with the glue and build quality, not the battery. My Pixel 2 and 6 on the other hand still look new and surprisingly, the 6 still holds to its battery power like day one. Got P8 on release date and I'm really excited for the direction Google is heading to, MAJOR improvements on hardware and build quality. Finger crossed 🤞🏻
Yeah I wanted to get this phone back then but decided to wait. Eventually went to the Apple ecosystem. The comment about build quality is true. Event his phones sides are showing signs of wear. The Pixel 6 I had was great. I liked using that phone. I'm hoping to be a part of #teampixel soon and then get to try the new Pixel phones!
I bought it for $130 cad. So just under $100 usd. Lol. I got lucky. Depends on the condition. If the phone is in good condition without any scratches, I'd recommend it. You should be able to get the Pixel 6 at this price too. It should be around $200. Maybe try your luck.
Hi there, New subscriber here, I'm so delighted that I saw this video, I've been wanting to own a 4 xl White since it came out but due to bad reviews opted to buy other pixels. I still want to get one but weary of the battery performance. I don't trust buying online too, I'll ask my cousins in Canada to fetch one for me. I don't know, i really dig its overall look + of course the cameras. How was the telephoto lens? I have the 6 now . Thanks for this video.
The only thing the Pixel 4 didn't have was 5G. And then when they made the 4A 5G I was stunned because they got rid of the flagship processor and put a mid-range chip in it. So the regular pixel 4 was more expensive/powerful but the 4A5G was cheaper and had better network. 👀🤔 Google was smoking crack.
@@TechWizPrince tbf not many 2019 phones (did any at all?) had 5G, and the 4a 5G was basically a larger Pixel 5 with a smaller battery, 60hz screen and a headphone jack.
new here. i enjoyed the review. i have really been interested in this phone but saw that google is not updating security patches as of 2022. i've been told that this can start to cause problems with you being able to interact with different online things like banking online or ordering from certain places. i don't know any answer for this.
@@TechWizPrince oh that's good to know! thanks. is your answer in the comments here or on a different review? i thought i had been through most of the comments here but will look again.
The only problem with the pixel 4 is that sometimes the Phone Face Unlock will bug out and you'll have to reset the whole phone to get it working again.
@LittleKiddo123 so the Pixel 2 XL had a dedicated speaker at the top which acted as an earpiece. While on other phones the earpiece acts as a speaker which is not as strong as a dedicated speaker. This is for older phones. Newer ones probably are much much better.
@@TechWizPrince i was seriously buying one but saw that google is not updating security patches on it anymore. do you not see that as a problem? thanks!
Mine is mint expect for a small probably 2 cm scratch, don't know how it happened, but it has gone through some abuse after it. I have dropped it by mistake 6 times on gravel landing face first, one time dropped it into my sink, another time slipped and chucked it into another room and have dropped it down a flight of stairs but it hit every step. The worst I ever was when fumble it and It landed on the corner, hasn't cracked or scratched. Expect that small scratch. But since I said this I bet it will crack as soon as I breathe on it.
I'm in Australia and really wanna buy pixel 4 xl but can get brand new sealed 😭 would you recommend buying in 2024 if not which PHN recommend to buy in budget. I just broken my pixel pro 7 👍🏻 Thanks
@DeluluChicken oh sucks that the Pixel 7 Pro broke. Sorry to hear that. If you can, maybe try to get a Pixel 6 or something. If big, the 4 XL is still good, especially if it’s brand new and sealed.
Oh not sure why that happens. Didn’t happen at all in the time I had the Pixel 4. Maybe battery has gone bad or software problem. Try resetting or installing a custom ROM
Oh that sucks! 4 hrs is too low. Do you game a lot? Or use intensive apps like video calling etc? Maybe thats y! If not, then its sad for it to just last 4 hrs!
My pixel 4xl lasts 10 hrs, but it has gotten charged by a non-fast charging wireless charger and I have almost never gone below 40% battery before charging it
This is the best pixel design ever
You are so right, the Face UNLOCK was unbelievable! The display is still better than the new Pixel 9 pro xl

Hi, what do you recomend between s10 Snapdragon vs Pixel 4?
Pixel 4
Can you help me please! My pixel 4xl Face unlock doesn't work l,everytime i try to use it keeps telling me "CERTIFICATE EXPIRED"
Sorry I have no idea what that is.
Maybe Google it. I googled and there seems to be a few sites discussing this!

Oh okay. Didn’t happen with me during my use but could have been an issue!
How is the sot?
It was decent. Depends on the usage though. For me 4-5 hrs is more than enough
What processor does it have
SD 855
can i install custom rom in this phone?
and if iam able then will it disable any features?
Yes you can install any custom ROM. I don’t think it’ll affect any features.
Great video 💪
Thanks man! Appreciated
the pixels 4 does have stereo speakers
I meant dedicated stereo speakers. The earpiece acts as a speaker on the phone. I meant like Pixel 2 XL has stereo speakers.
@@TechWizPrince oh you mean the front firing speakers? the pixel 2xl used the earpiece as a second speaker too lol

Yes. I would certainly use it in 2024. If it’s available at a cheaper price, it’s a good phone!
