    The DS version of the RF has a depth of field of 2.2 and is also darker like a 2.2 wide open. That’s why you see more things in focus. The non DS version is more similar to the Nikon one.

      It have the 1.2 depth of field, but the ds coating cause it lose some light.

    The Nikon Z lenses can rotate focus in either direction by setting it in camera, plus many of them are linear focussing with adjustable lens throws!😎

    I am fortunate to own both a Nikon 85mm f/1.2 and a Canon regular 85mm f/1.2. Love them both but honestly since I got a Nikon 85mm f/1.2 I have rarely use Canon lens. Before that I was using Canon 85mm 1.2 all the time. Now I have got Nikon 135mm plena and I am in love with that.

    The Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S Lens does not have any kind of image stabilization and instead relies on the attached camera's on-sensor stabilization

      I could not resist and finally purchased this lens and have to say I absolutely love it The fact that it can do autofocus with such a small depth of field wide open at 1.2 is amazing.

    Good review. I have been really impressed with Nikon. I switched from the R3 to the Z9 and have had no regrets. I haven't got my hands on the 85mm 1.2 yet but I do own the 135mm 1.8 Plena which is my all time favorite lens now!

Canon user that dabbled in nikon DSLR, used both for mirrorless and now is making the full transition to Z for my professional needs. AF is very comparable Z9 does some things better, R3 does some things better, both can get the shot you need.

    WRONG! @3:25 The Nikon Z85mm f1.2 is NOT internally stabilized, it has no image stabilization and works with in-camera stabilization IF YOUR CAMERA HAS IT. The Canon RF85mm f1.2 is also NOT internally stabilized, doesn’t have image stabilization but relies on the Canon R1’s IBIS to add 2 real stops of improvement. Secondly these lenses are not generally manually focused, they are used with autofocus 99.99% of the time. I’m surprised that you didn’t mention how plasticky the barrel of the Nikon 85mm f1.2 is when compared to the Canon 85mm f1.2. If you’re going to be so nitpicky and CLEARLY FAULT-FINDING with the Canon, you should point out everything, right? First example most people will choose to walk out the house with the smaller profile of the Canon R5 + RF85mm f1.2 than the Nikon Z9 + Z85mm f1.2. I’ve owned the Nikon version so I’m familiar with it and can tell you that it’s a great lens. But now I’m in the market to buy the Canon version because it’s shorter and DOES make a difference. I’m keeping the Z9 body for my other lenses. These are both epic lenses that you are comparing but you are biased against the Canon version

    Canon just doesn't handle highlights as well as Nikon and Sony. Canon also crushes shadows more. I own a R6MKII and I've seen this time and time again. Almost too contrasty.

  • @chennytango9298
    @chennytango9298 9 місяців тому +1

    I think the Nikon is ergonomically better and a bit more contrasty but I prefer the Canon's image and bokeh in taking the portraits, which is what the 85 1.2 mainly used for.

    Many of these are comments from someone that hasn't actually used Canon cameras all that much. Much of what he dislikes about the Canon are opinion-based, and others are issues with understanding different camera systems capabilities... It's fine he has opinions, but the complete lack of objectivity based on real experience with both systems is a bit frustrating to watch.
    Take for instance manual focusing. Being able to move change focus quickly from a larger range is amazing, then, without doing anything other than slowing the rotation speed, slow it down for fine details adjustments. Not to bring in the very good RF manual focus markers, which are far better (See opinion...) than the color markings form the Nikon.
    Resolving fine details in an image is NOT a negative thing, even for portraits. However, for skin and other portions you'd like more smooth, improve your lighting as that has much more to do with smoothing than the difference between these 2 lenses.

  • @ts76751
    @ts76751 10 місяців тому +1

    I think there’s also a setting on my r5 for the manual focus of rf lenses. One setting is by how fast you turn the ring and the other setting is changes the focus as you’d expect it similar to Nikon.

    In chart test, nikon seems sharper. But in a lot of photos, i loved canon more. And by other reviews, i thought nikon had almost none CA, but i could notice some in the pictures, it has more color fringing than canon.
    But anyway, loving nikons, 85 1.2 nikon would be incredible for me.

  • @notgazo7009
    @notgazo7009 3 місяці тому

    By default, Canon's manual focus cameras have a speed variation response, but you can change it to a rotation angle variation. I admit that the resistance of the focusing ring is a little light and I much prefer the one on my RF 100 Macro, which is much more dampened. Furthermore, Canon has a killer feature for manual focus with its focus guide system. It allows the AF system to tell you the distance and direction to move the focus ring to achieve focus on the selected AF point.
    For me the Nikon is a better lens for video because it is totally focus breathing corrected. For photo Canon has a small advantage with less CA.

    Good comparison, thanks! Quick detail to note, Nikon’s 85 1.2 does not have internal stabilization (VR), it’s stabilized via IBIS in full frame Z bodies. If a Nikon lens doesn’t include “VR” in title / name, there’s no internal stabilization 👍🏻
