Really happy I found this dope ass noir classic. Alain Delon is the f'ing man.
Perfect film. Perfect montage. Nightcall goes so well with Le Samouraï. Melville movies and others such a such as Thief, Bullitt or The Driver had a huge influence on cinema. I loved that Drive paid homage to them.

The Red Circle is so modern, it changed noir forever as it was known. It was colored, and suspenseful. The first time i watched this i got literal thrills, beautiful movie, women and plenty of cigarettes.
Did anyone else buy a black coat, a Burberry trench, and a grey fedora with a black band after seeing this film? I wear it around Paris sometimes and there are a few people who recognize the homage.

To me the enigma and paradox of Jef Costello is that he seems to be serving something greater than himself while simultaneously existing only according to a personal code. A samurai is supposed to live to serve his employer, but Costello is self-employed. What does he live for? Why go through such meticulous, unbeatable planning if you have nothing to live for?

Final shoot out is a conformation of this fact ...This movie is unreal in real life events dont progress like that It happens more like the movie Little Odessa ~ JP Melville says something in those lines any way facts and fiction intertwined which is which no body knows....But overall engaging picture far the best of Delon no doubt and best of JP Melville and I have seen his all ....One thing is that why he preferred an ending that way beyond me It doesnt make sense ... These people are hard men they wont walk around with empty chamber or foolishly brandish P.P. .38 unless they intend to use JP must have known ???*

I don't know, your interpretation of the movie is too literal. I think the director was more focused on the stylistic and symbolic aspects of the story than on representing a realistic situation.
