This extraordinary Grade II*-listed modern masterpiece, set in 25 acres of gardens and ancient woodland, was designed by Peter Harland in 1935 as a home for the leading British composer Sir Arthur Bliss. Rooted in its peaceful setting, the house was designed for family life, for creating and communing, and as a retreat for self-reflection. The music room where Bliss created some of his most revered works, Grade II*-listed in its own right, is set deep in the ancient woodland; itself a scheduled monument. A four-bedroom guest cottage and its gardens lie due west of the main house. While retaining an overwhelming sense of quiet and seclusion, this remarkable home lies some seven miles south of Bruton and two miles from Stourhead, within easy reach of the open countryside and Somerset’s many cultural highlights.

What a wonderful house! Wish the video had shown even more of it.
This home really has a soul and a history that can be felt in the walls and glass. I feel really reflective watching this and I suspect this space makes the inhabitant feel calm and grounded.
For a house to have the ability and magnetism to willingly draw people in, then it is truly a home.
What a beautiful and tranquil home.
Can I move in, please?
Love it but I would have to paint the window frames, the red makes it look too much like a fire station
Such a beautiful house with fantastic view!
The colours and the shapes remind me so much of the 90s...
beautiful house horrible decor impractical hard edges cold despite the warm colours. beautiful windows, outerior, house itself and gardens
Beautiful house, terrible audio on the video! It’s badly mixed, under compressed and hard to listen to😢
One should keep and treasure the house
Interesting!

Does anyone else get a bit sick of people talking about how the architect wanted to build something that respected and blended in with the natural environment?
Build a treehouse.
Recently read a story on a modern cottage with the same intent. Meanwhile the massive cathedral ceiling was imported clear BC cedar. So much for sustainable.
Disappointingly it leaves me unmoved. I suspect it’s in need of some serious tlc after so many years in the same ownership too.
I would get rid of that big conifer and plant some hawthorn and blackthorn.
