It actually reminds me of when Jackson was more-or-less singing baritone (to whatever intelligible harmony exists) in their various renditions of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: in the baritone section. Not quite as impressive as the tenor singing where he did a very good job, but still interesting. I'd love to see their version of "You gotta change parts" since they're the only quartet I've listened to for so long that I can reliably differentiate their voices no matter what range they're singing in.
I never thought I would love barbershop quartets until I “met” the Newfangled Four! If they were doing a show near me I would LOVE to see them!! These guys make Barbershop so much fun!!❤❤❤❤

I'm not a solfege expert, but at 4:29, I think Joe sang a whole tone scale up and down using the correct (or mostly correct) solfege syllables for raised and lowered tones. Going a step further, I think they're singing in F# - a brutal key to notate in the first place - and then Joe raises notes by half a step. That would fill the score with double sharps and potentially make the solfege easier to read than the standard notation. That's some really deep inside jokes if I'm right.
Even more impressive, what he's actually singing are just the accidentals. In C this would be DO plus /just/ the black keys, using sharps going up and flats going down.

It wasn't a whole tone scale. He did the flat 2, minor 3, to sharp 4. The chromatic solfegge was correct, though!
Whatever he's doing (not a music major) it was seriously impressive.
