The mustang has always been a bit odd. Not sure if id consider mustangs of that era a muscle car. The camaro has transformed though. The modern camaro and mustang are direct competitors. I would consider them both pony cars or american sport coupes. The new charger is a full size sedan which puts it in a completely different category. The challenger on the other hand is the only true modern muscle car. Its big, heavy, built with str8 line performance in mind and most importantly, it looks like a modern version of a 60's era muscle car. Its in a class by itself in that respect even if auto mags try to compare them.

Who else here got a 2014 Camaro and is in no responsible position to trade it in yet cause the resultant loan would be more upside down than Australia? The 6th gen's twice the car.... :(
sants man I know. :( Though in the Fall 2014, (I got a new 14 in Fall 14, when it was a year old technically) there was really nothing substantive about the new Camaro yet revealed -- not the GM Alpha platform borrowed from Cadillac, not the weight shed, not the LT1 engine, the MagRide suspension in the SS as an option. Within like 6 months though...
Lol. I'm that guy. I traded my new 2015 1SS in last month that I got in January 2016 l. I lost 12k on the swap for my 2016 1SS with magnetic ride control and NPP exhaust. But it was a 40,500 MSRP with 20 percent off. Ended up getting it for 32k. Worth taking the hit. I loved my 5th gen, but the 6th gen blows it away.
Personally I don't think one should be in a $45K brand new car for their first car, because things happen, and the visibility isn't great, which also might not be great for a first time driver. But not my decision to make!
You are so lucky you can even ask this question... I'm also 17 and I can only hope I'll once be able to buy a car like this... (But that's also because I live in the Netherlands and these cars are way more expensive over here)
I'm missing the engineering you're supposed to be explaining. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with this review, I just think that there are plenty of car review channels out there all ready. I would've loved to see some more in-depth stuff, like diving under the hood for a few minutes. Point out everything, say what it does, what has been improved over the previous model, what's different than it's competitors, and just talk in general about where you think the manufacturer came up with proper engineering solutions and where they cut corners. I think like this would be an excellent way to differentiate your videos from all the others, by doing what you're good at.
These 2016 Chevy sports/muscle cars are finally what I grew to love about GM originally. For awhile they were just keeping up with the crowd or leading the crowd depending on your interpretation. Finally they are showing some actual progress, new features that are actual innovation instead of being lifted out of the competition. Think the only change I would make if I ever am lucky enough to own one, adding on a second battery for the instrumentation. My biggest gripe on these newer cars is electronic gauges that are useless when your battery gets too low, typically when you most need them and a backup battery just for the instrumentation would solve that. Also, is it just me or is he making the drive from Half Life 2?
it's got more hp and tq than the mustang and camero and is also alot heavier so I would say it is a muscle car, and a good looking one at that, but everyone has their preferences. they are all amazing cars so try not biting anyone's head off for picking something different from what you like.
Muscle cars are the ones that look mean and have a V8 and suck at turning so the Challenger definitely is a muscle car. It seems like you've never heard of the Scat Pack, Hellcat or Demon.
I really liked the longer sequences in this video, it kind of made your impression seem more natural rather than a complete calculated analysis. Not that there's anything wrong with your analysis, that's fine too.
14:50 explains why people by the Camaro SS. Yes visibility sucks, no cabin storage space, trunk opening is comically small, but handling, power, and sound make it all worth it.
We don't corner in America, we race on the strip. But to answer your question this thing handles amazingly. Not to mention the Z06 with magnetic suspension
Opticillusion160 there's still the weight. but i'm not gonna act like an anti-american car guy so i will admit it. muscle now turns, just a bit of weight loss and they're uo there. now it's more like an audi RS4 or BMW M4. powerful and fast but heavy and not that refined.
I am going give the Camaro a second look because of this video review. Was not keen on the views and seating position since I'm only 5' 10". But this review has me at it again. Thanks.
Challenger's interior doesn't compare to the 2016 Camaro, BUT, a muscle car isn't a computer-toy for frat-boys the challenger IS the definition of a modern muscle car (the dodge challenger is much more encrusted in society than any other competition including stingrays) RANDY FOR SUPERVISOR
my dad used to work for gm, so he got to take a few Camaro's out for test drives. He hated the blinds spots on it, especially backing up, so he bought a challenger instead lol
Base Mustang GT, 33k MSRP. Base Camaro SS, 38k MSRP. It's a major reason GM is having a harder time moving these (some months the Mustang outsells Challenger and Camaro combined). Mustang has proven time and time and time and time and time and time and time again that pure performance isn't going to move your car. Also, neither are muscle cars. Muscle cars died at the end of the 1960s. This is a grand touring car.
Great camera angles. And, the exhaust sound was exciting! Made me relive my teen years of early/mid 60's Chevelles, GTOs and 442s Sweet!!!!!! Muscle cars have had 40 years of obscurity, good to know they are back...
1st to 4th skip has been a very common option for all GM manual cars for decades now. Most enthusiasts that dislike it will have that feature programmed out by a tuner
lmao a POS come on bud... the new mustang is a peach. It feels well built, has gobs of power and looks the part too. Sure, douches generally own them, but its a very refined car, and probably the best one ever made. i moved from a 2013 to a 2016 one and its great.
BagelBytes I've driven it. I've tracked a 2016 350R, the normal GT350, and multiple other variants. It's no peach. It's still crappier than my C5 Corvette. It's comparable to a 20 year old Corvette. The Camaro? Comparable to a current Corvette. The Mustang's less reliable, heavier, has less power, and runs more expensive. It's a POS. Period.
***** tell that to the track times bud. It's obvious you're a fanboy. I like Corvettes but the 350r is a beast. It did nurburgring in 7m32s which is .8s slower than a pagani zonda F. Compare that to the Ferrari 458 Italia at 7m38s and you get the picture... Also, the GT350 bested the Z/28 around the nurburgring too. Check the lap times
+Thomas Schneider I agree, I'd love it if it wasn't for the awful cartoonish looks - it's so ugly its hard to imagine how they could have done a worse job of aping the 1960's design language.
+Matthew Sharpe absolutly! modern american cars dont invent much New. thinking of the 50s fly to the moon cars . the AMG GT is an optical pleasure. hopefully the c7 zr1 will be something like that design a+ Funktion a+
LegendInThaMakin I'll take all of those advantages over some Ford foamer's opinion any day. To you people, nothing is better than a mustang. No matter how much it looks like a two-door Fusion. Good for you.
I really appreciate the analytics you incorporate, I can tell you really do extensive research before your reviews. I haven't come across many other car reviews that have this amount of detail besides in head to head comparisons.
nice, diggen the throw back to the 1st gen rs(option) hood/vents. Ill always leave it to GM/Cadillac to figure out how to make a great car like this as the competitors always play catch up......whilst over emphasizing what "they" offer as an "experience" over GM products....tisk tisk the "experience" they describe is headaches and regret....but hey go ahead and go for a ford product or a mopar. Grip balance and adequate power what ive come to expect from gm(camaro, vette, cts-v) in the last 15 years....but again you can go with cars where "bolstered" power is supposed to mask the short comings of performance "inclined" "Muscle" cars lmao. If u wanna drive in a straight line and fast why buy a new car....lol theres more to driving daily etc than hard line pulls.....if they want something to brag about in a straight line they should whip up a rust bucket sleeper but what do those people know about pride and real hot roding fun
My daily is a 2014 V6 1LT, I have taken one of the new 4cl models for a spin. I agree with the more cramped cockpit, there are alot more switches and buttons on the 6th gen. I had the same experience, great ride and steering, awesome car, mind you I would never buy a 4cl muscle car. The sound of that V8 was awesome, if you buy any of the new Camaros, either 5th or 6th gen, get the dual mode exhaust. The lag in the gas pedal is there by design, probably to get those EPA numbers and reduce wear and tear. I put a throttle controller on mine that has economy and sport settings, it has turned the car into a whole other car. The highest setting is nicknamed "Beast" mode and it is a two handed affair. Rev High Stealth 2.0 is the name of the controller, I would guess they haven't got one out for the 6th gen yet.
I'm a Chevy guy at heart but I think I like the Mustang more. To me the Camaro and the Challenger have one big issue... Weight! They FEEL too heavy when Driving where the Mustang still weighs about the same but doesn't feel like it. Its kind of sad that my 2017 Ford Flex Suv/Crossover handles better then the heavy muscle cars. It only has a v6 pushing about 290hp but it handles very well for something that big. That and it's the base level that weighs about 600lbs less the the top end levels. No leaking moon roofs, no heavy power seats. Its just a light box on for wheels... Too bad I'm hurt too badly to enjoy driving anymore! I miss driving for fun... and work.... I just miss being behind the wheel! Pain took that joy from me.
The "skip shift" 1-4 has been around since the 4th gen F-bodies... You can buy a $20 plug-in bypass from the aftermarket. I've never bought one for any of my cars because I rarely drive slow enough for the skip shift to actually engage so I never felt the need to spend the extra money for the bypass. But it is out there.

"The sound is louder in tight spaces." ;)
The Best Chevrolet engine ever ! Sound is Amazing !
Who else here got a 2014 Camaro and is in no responsible position to trade it in yet cause the resultant loan would be more upside down than Australia?
The 6th gen's twice the car.... :(
lol. thats sucks... now we know to always wait for the redesigns or updates
sants man I know.
Nevertheless, you still have an awesome car.
I loved my 5th gen, but the 6th gen blows it away.
i personally have never seen you have so much fun test-driving a car!
is it good for a first car for a teenager
Personally I don't think one should be in a $45K brand new car for their first car, because things happen, and the visibility isn't great, which also might not be great for a first time driver. But not my decision to make!
ok but ware i live its 36k and i was thinking of getting it for my first car im 17
and what about a mustang
ur dad probably wont get u an ss tho. Maybe a LT v6. Ur 17 im sure u will get into much bigger trouble with that v8. That power is very tempting
You are so lucky you can even ask this question... I'm also 17 and I can only hope I'll once be able to buy a car like this... (But that's also because I live in the Netherlands and these cars are way more expensive over here)
That smile on your face after hiting the tunel👍👍👍
SS stands for Schutstaffel?
This isn't 1943 Germany lol
Yahoothis Hmm maybe Louis Chevrolet made this car for them
Yeah you could be on to something
Or maybe Super Sport? The SS name has been going on since the 60s and you still don't know this? Cmon man.
Opticillusion160 So you thought I was serious? I'm not a chevy fan
Manuals do NOT have cylinder deactivation. RTFM issue.
Great ideas!
TechJunkie
Thanks :)
Totaly agreed
He does go into more detail to what other channels review because he's not just about stats
Your reviews get better and better!
Jesus, GM is still doing that 1st-4th lockout crap?
GM is still saving its customers from the gas guzzler tax? What a bunch of assholes!
Yep and still as easy as ever to disable.
CAGS eliminator !!!!!!!!!!
Blame the EPA and the govt
what do you mean 1st-4th lockout crap?
I agree, the zl1 and the z28 are going to be insane.
The challenger is not a muscle car. Its a boat so all you dodge fanboys can shut up.
it's got more hp and tq than the mustang and camero and is also alot heavier so I would say it is a muscle car, and a good looking one at that, but everyone has their preferences. they are all amazing cars so try not biting anyone's head off for picking something different from what you like.
The challenger can't make a left or right turn. All it can do is run a 12 second lap stock with 700 HP. Derp
+Javier Cervantes how does weight have anything to do with being a muscle car? Last time I checked it was an American car with a big American v8.
lol no one said it wasnt xD
Muscle cars are the ones that look mean and have a V8 and suck at turning so the Challenger definitely is a muscle car. It seems like you've never heard of the Scat Pack, Hellcat or Demon.
I really liked the longer sequences in this video, it kind of made your impression seem more natural rather than a complete calculated analysis. Not that there's anything wrong with your analysis, that's fine too.
So whens the Hyundai Accent review coming
+Hyundai Accent Fan Club I'm saving it for my 1,000,000 subscriber special.
+Engineering Explained I'm holding you to this lol
Hyundai Accent Fan Club Prepare for disappointment!
Engineering Explained if its because you cant get ahold of one i can personaly send you one of my 3 cylinder diesels to test
+Hyundai Accent Fan Club noooooooobody likes a Hyundai Accent who has ever driven something other than a Hyundai Accent. Fekkin shiteboxes
14:50 explains why people by the Camaro SS. Yes visibility sucks, no cabin storage space, trunk opening is comically small, but handling, power, and sound make it all worth it.
faster than a 911... sure but how about corners?
We don't corner in America, we race on the strip. But to answer your question this thing handles amazingly. Not to mention the Z06 with magnetic suspension
Opticillusion160 there's still the weight.
but i'm not gonna act like an anti-american car guy so i will admit it. muscle now turns, just a bit of weight loss and they're uo there.
now it's more like an audi RS4 or BMW M4.
powerful and fast but heavy and not that refined.
The magnetic suspension is also an option on the Camaro. Even the v6 can have it.
Get the 1LE package
I am going give the Camaro a second look because of this video review. Was not keen on the views and seating position since I'm only 5' 10". But this review has me at it again. Thanks.
Challenger > Camaro
+⚛ U Wot M8 ⚛ it does indeed have more mass.
+⚛ U Wot M8 ⚛ challenger
slower
handles worse
worse reality
worse MPG
basically SS>overweight challenger with a 1990s benz chassis
***** also slower
Handles worse
Gets less MPG
***** it matters when the New MPG laws go into effect as
And dodge and ford are forced to lower horsepower
Challenger's interior doesn't compare to the 2016 Camaro, BUT, a muscle car isn't a computer-toy for frat-boys the challenger IS the definition of a modern muscle car (the dodge challenger is much more encrusted in society than any other competition including stingrays)
RANDY FOR SUPERVISOR
my dad used to work for gm, so he got to take a few Camaro's out for test drives. He hated the blinds spots on it, especially backing up, so he bought a challenger instead lol
Spend an extra 2k and get a GT350 instead.
+Matthew D you mean 10k? ss starts at 37k gt350 starts at 47k
This SS is $46k as tested
Dad was looking at them recently... dealers marking up the GT350 to around 80k
+86gtforme I think he meant the 2ss which was being driven in the video
MrChow408 you generally dont compare almost fully loaded price to base price though
Thing is ugly. Last gen camaro was better looking. The rear is just bad. Somebody at GM should be fired.
for reals, the 5th Gen rear end is freaking gorgeous, and probably my favorite camero. the front facia is pretty aggressive tho, I like it.
with ZL1 package is best IMO!
Great camera angles. And, the exhaust sound was exciting! Made me relive my teen years of early/mid 60's Chevelles, GTOs and 442s Sweet!!!!!! Muscle cars have had 40 years of obscurity, good to know they are back...
I still think the Mustang GT is a superior car overall.
not by any objective measure. maybe the next model but the current one is outclassed.
How??
Maybe price wise, that's about it little buddy.
Yahoothis It's pure fanboyism to think the mustang is superior at this point.
+Deadeyedickification yep. but let's be clear: 2016 Camaro SS is objectively better than the 2016 Mustang GT.
1st to 4th skip has been a very common option for all GM manual cars for decades now. Most enthusiasts that dislike it will have that feature programmed out by a tuner
I'd still buy a Mustang. The thing looks like a European tuner, not a muscle car.
"I would literally buy a POS"
Oh. Okay.
lmao a POS come on bud... the new mustang is a peach.
To be fair, it does look more muscle-oriented in person than it did in this video.
As the former owner of 3 Mustangs (1 New Edge and 2 Coyotes) and an 86 IROC Z Z-28, I can safely say that I prefer this over the new Mustang.
That interior is seriously one of the worst I've ever seen...imo
Very nice unbiased review. Keep it up!
looks like an ugly really ugly toy car for 6 year old Transformer Fans.
+Thomas Schneider I agree, I'd love it if it wasn't for the awful cartoonish looks - it's so ugly its hard to imagine how they could have done a worse job of aping the 1960's design language.
+Matthew Sharpe absolutly! modern american cars dont invent much New. thinking of the 50s fly to the moon cars . the AMG GT is an optical pleasure. hopefully the c7 zr1 will be something like that design a+ Funktion a+
all new cars are ugly
AudioSlave I would not go that far. The f type is really nice for example.
Matthew Sharpe Im talking american, should have said that
You Ground Squirrel Bullie!!!hahaha! He probably dropped his nuts hearing that "BEAUTIFUL BLUE BEAST" rounding the bend! Fun video.
I would take a mustang over this any day
+Lukester116 A man has got to know his limitations....
+Tom Battaglia Lol very true
+Deadeyedickification but it's also uglier so none of that matters.
LegendInThaMakin I'll take all of those advantages over some Ford foamer's opinion any day. To you people, nothing is better than a mustang. No matter how much it looks like a two-door Fusion. Good for you.
+Deadeyedickification tbh i dont care for mustangs either. M4 guy myself.
I owned the 2013 V6 and now I own the 2SS. The difference is of course insane.
Is it just me or the car looks ugly as hell ?
It's just you
I'm not a fan of the styling, but I may be a bit biased. If only they looked as good as they performed.
it's you
I completely agree it's vulgar to say the least
i feel the same. It's a nice car performance wise but i appreciate it from a distance. it's an extremely hideous car.
This is definitely one of your best videos
I really appreciate the analytics you incorporate, I can tell you really do extensive research before your reviews. I haven't come across many other car reviews that have this amount of detail besides in head to head comparisons.
Very satisfying to see such a clean engine bay
That Laugh in the tunnel at 10:47 sums this car up..
nice, diggen the throw back to the 1st gen rs(option) hood/vents.
I love the view from the roof man! On a road like that... In a car like that... I can watch it for hours
This was an awesome video! It would have been awesome if the camaro incorporated the start/stop button on the shifter so it was like a fighter jet
One of your best reviews so far and spot on with all aspects of the car. I felt the same way when I test drove it several times.
That drive through the tunnel was epic!
Man, i didn't know you do reviews too, and you know what ... you're great doing it!
keep on the good work!
+Herickson SS thanks!
Nice review, enjoying your channel a lot
Thanks for this video! Just bought mine yesterday and this vid helped me a lot to make that decision!
I'm in love with that sound at 6:43
I LOVE the Chop Top look.
