    Question, I purchased a necklace with a wrapped crystal. After 2 years of wearing it and me being active the crystal fell out because the wrap came loose. Can I uncoil the old wire that came loose and reuse it? It's the only wire I have since I have never done this.

    • @MarlainaAtkins
      @MarlainaAtkins  4 роки тому +1

      🤔 Depending on what kind of wire was used, I would think so. But you will need to smooth out any kinks in the wire for it to look nice. You most likely do not have wire straighteners like I have so you can use regular pliers with a cloth or t-shirt covering the end and use those to straighten the wire without scratching up the wire if that makes sense. Hope this helps. Good luck!

    question about the skin oils, what about wearing it, it will be touching my skin. so by simply wearing it, it will tarnish?

    • @MarlainaAtkins
      @MarlainaAtkins  3 роки тому

      It sure will. You know the jewelry that turns your finger green and then looks horrible? That's what bare copper will do. If its worn against your clothes...it will last longer but it will eventually no matter. If you don't want it to tarnish you will have to oxidize it after. There are many ways to do it. It will give a patina, change the color to an antique look.
      Or you can buy non-tarnish wire...(recommended) Thats what I've been using now☺

    I can get it done quicker than that, fairly easily too.
    I would just hurry you up.
    Seriously, I do have a tip for you all, copper is very malleable and you can hammer it with wooden shaped profilers, flat, round, concave etc, just tap it though , holding it is the best indication of how hard it needs hitting.
    Remember that once you have worked the wire it becomes harder.

    • @MarlainaAtkins
      @MarlainaAtkins  4 роки тому

      Quicker eh? Video or it didn't happen Lol😉
      Thanks for the tip my friend. I didn't know it would get harder to work but that's a technique I will be trying in the future. I just learned to braid the wire, like a girls hair braid. Looks real pretty☺

    • @symonsheppard5519
      @symonsheppard5519 4 роки тому

      Marlaina Atkins
      I thought you were supposed to say Real Purdy!
      Copper is a strange metal, heat it till cherry red then quench in water will make it " work Ardened" yes without the H , but that means it's softer!
      If you keep using one piece it will become difficult for bending and previous bends are harder to flatten.
      Using different gauges it effective, stringing between two wires like a ladder is another way of retaining odd shapes.
      Brass, aluminium plain and coated, micro wires comes in a variety of colour but will it wear off.
      And when you become expert, edging in copper tape used for stained glass windows around the edges then coated with solder using a soldering iron will make a band of solid metal you can solder a loop on top .
      Silver looks really good but I would avoid silver soldering .
