Great movie. I saw it today, trying somehow to honor Paul Auster. The script is so good that you realize it was written by a master. And now having the chance to listen about the genesis of how Paul got involved in the film, about the original Christmas story, the creative process together with the movie director, the involvement of Robert Altman. Hell I love UA-cam for having all this available just instantly. It is a complete pleasure and learning. Thank you!
Love this..yes a daily orbit of other humans. Smoke was perfectly cast..a beauty no doubt. What a joy for Austin to work with Wang! Thanks, this interview is very interesting.wow
"Cinematic humanism". Describes Smoke perfectly. Roger Ebert treated Smoke very fairly check it out. I stumbled into viewing Smoke years later with zero expectations. At the end you're just blown away with Keitels' final scene...and then come the credits. Wow.
I love both Smoke and Blue in the Face which I saw when they came out. I haven’t seen Lulu on the Bridge. Sadly none of these films are easy to find nowadays. It’s a shame that the film d’auteur has given place to the Marvel comic heroes. Cinema now is dead.

This is a Gem. The Altman part is a stunning revelation. My favorite writer and one of my all-time favorite films.
Mark Herbert did you read 4 3 2 1 yet?

Paul Auster is a true American Treasure. I have enjoyed ever word he has published- every damn one of them!
It's a good movie and the story at the end make it high quality. ❤
Loved Smoke and loved his take on it.
A great movie about the qualities in life - and how to remain a good man.
I loved how he introduces baseball to the kid,

What a movie !
Wonderful history and respect for the art of film.
Hope he keep writing new movies
So want tto know the character he added
i wish he would write Die Hard 6
Writing scrips for silent movies is delightfully oxymoronic - Zen almost! Must've watched too much Kurosawa?
