Without reading the comments I know you're going to get a bunch of advice from viewers. Even after you said it was a work in process. Personally I think you're exceptionally ingenious in most of your endeavors on the ranch. 💪🤠 👍
Our Wyoming Life aluminum angle iron L shaped about a foot L O N G along top with screws from bottom make sure the 2 pieces of aluminum are SNUG against each other; Viagra will help stiffen it too So this guys parents are visiting and his dad sees Viagra in medicine cabinet asks how much ($10) and wants one the next morning he finds $110 in envelope and asks dad WTF? Dad says the $100 was from Mom 😉
Nice metel catcher, a lot of warehouse distribution yards uses those on their yard trucks to pick up pallet nails too, maybe a little stronger magnet since they are normally three-four inches from the ground. Yours work just as good.
Good idea. A storm blew over my pump house. Some roofing nails were scattered. After dragging my magnet around the field for a few hours, I tied a magnet to my tractor. On top of a few more nails, I've found a wrench and a piece of wire.
Great idea! I was in the trucking industry 30 years and most jockey trucks (really short trucks with hydraulic 5th wheels for moving trailers around) had an 8ft magnet mounted to the front bumper. You don't have to prevent many flats for this to save you a lot of money. You already know what it cost to fix or replace a tractor tire. LOTS OF MONEY. Love your channel and your videos!!
I thought it was really funny when the pigs were running around yesterday. When you first spotted them one looked up at you and said “Hi Dad”, then turned around and high tailed it out of there.
Whe we had our home reroofed they used a magnet roller to pick up nails. Great idea. Maybe you can put a small wheel in the middle to help roll easier. 💗😀
It's still bending in the center. Maybe you can use a wheel in the center of it to support it. Or a piece of wood that runs along the top to brace it and give it the extra support needed. My husband Paul one time after the land lord had the roof replaced, to run one of those magnets over the perimeter of the home. He barrowed from work. That thing was heaver than it looked, and the ground was uneven. But so many nails. Paul still had to fix the leak that was not done right. The Land Lady was so mad. It was the House that her Father use to live in. Paul found the leak and fixed it. My Husband was a genius when it came to finding leaks. How to fix them was never an issue with him.
Excellent project. I'd keep those magnets on as often as possible. Avoiding a screw or nail in a cows hoof could prevent a catastrophic and costly situation. Not to mention what one of those nails or screws could do to a tractor or four wheeler tire. Time well spent.
Can't help to think if you put the magnet on a type of drag behind a harrow. When you were driving the gator it was swinging behind you especially on the right side. So it is not "scanning" the ground fully. Or else go slower with the gator. Just FYI- good idea. Like treasure hunting with a metal detector!!!
Our circle of friends loved Benny Hill also. My favorite character on there was his little sidekick bald-headed 80 year old looking friend that he would pat him on his head real fast and then take off with that funny fast sperd running they would do.
dang it, here I was just finished inventing a hoof operated lighter, hoping you would promote it for me. Looks like your little invention of your own works pretty well, nice job Mike :)
The magnet idea is already used by the trucking industry They are hung in front of "Yard dogs" the specialized trucks that are used for moving trailors around the yard.
Hey Mike, first of all I'm a subscriber and I always smash that like button anything to see you in it😉. You come up with some very interesting and cool ideas and not to mention you have very Gifted Hands. If things don't work out one way you try to figure it out and make it work another way you have a good head on your shoulders and it doesn't hurt to try. So what's next for OWL keep up the good work and see you in the next video🤔🤠💪🔩🔨🔧😉
A big shout-out to Harbor Freight! They are mentioned in so many UA-cam channel vloggers that it's amazing. I'm not a person that has any MacGyver skills but it is funny to see all the people that use them for inexpensive projects. Seems like they can get a lot for their money and they always seem to find a bunch of extra junk they need and will really fit the bill for other projects they had wanted to start.
Mike, since you left the brackets on maybe you could build an arm (similar to what's on the back of your hay tractor for rear pulling) or attach arms similar to bucket or push blade for front-end.
Cool idea. Could be good thing to get the kids started on to learn driving, they would love it. Maybe Harbor will find one for lego brick picking up some day. Lol
When you first put the magnets together, I was thinking putting a bolt in would have got them closer. Then when you cut the axle, (allthread) I cringed a little thinking, no wheel going back on there. Really nice idea though. Sure beats bending over and swinging a handheld magnet. Another interesting and informative video. Keep them coming.
Just looking at your design, my thought would be to put a front tire from a push lawn mower in the center to compensate for the sag and keep them level. Great work though. Love seeing the changes on the ranch with all the improvements and upkeep.
1. Rivit an aluminum strongback to. the front or back side to remove the bow. 2. place a skid in place of the wheel at each end so it travels at a more uniform distance from the ground.
You'll save yourself a lot of money and heartache with attaching the magnet picker-upper...liked video, glad you addressed this issue, and the proable that metal foreign objects cause to tires. I've been there, done that...have a good day...steveb
I watched these cow hoof trimmer guys on UTube channels. Cows seem to step on nails and screws and get them embedded in the soft part of their hooves and causes them to go slowly lame. I'm thinking it will be a good thing to keep nails and any metal out of his cows hooves.
Good Afternoon Mike; It seems my husband wants to watch your channel with me and so he came up with an idea, he said to put 2 wheels in the middle which would make it move better. Thanks for another interesting video
Mike, patent pending? Yes! You should make these for farmers. Make it a single piece instead of two. I know, you have nothing better to do lol. Rounded bottom maybe. A couple of fatter tires. Wait, what about a "swivel" type. Let it sway. Lol all these ideas
a half round - the post you have in the corral in NZ we call a half round which are great if you are screwing panels of wood to make a fence as it gives a bigger face to screw your panels to - we also do 1/4 rounds in paddock fencing as we really still don't use masses of metal post or Y posts here in New Zealand in large farms we use wooden posts
Yeah I was worried I know.....lol. I just think those two are going to get in some cow trouble with that tank. that picked up quite a bit of stuff it's amazing whats under the dirt a bit. That's a great thinger picker upper.
You may get better results by firming the center, then attaching to gator with a tongue hitch instead of chains. It should be free to flex, but it seems to swing a bit too much now. Ingenious idea, though. Amazing how much old rusty junk it picked up.
Hi Mike I'm a subscriber myself and always remember to hit the like button. But my first thought when you were putting the magnet things to be mounted on your little vehicle was why don't you use that to go through the new calf pen that you made up yesterday and get up everything out of there because it seems like if you were putting them into a protected area and it's something new that they would be the first animals in an area that needed to be cleared of nails or things that could harm them. I hope that you will take your magnet deal for a drive through their new pen and maybe make up a little pallet barrier to prevent them from actually getting into any trouble around the propane tank where those pipes are coming out. I don't know how you get things accomplish as much as you do, but it is a miracle that you do it alone. I also had an idea that you could possibly get some volunteers to help you and this is what I thought. On the days that you have people staying at your place in their motorhomes, you would have a erase board that you could put up, saying for example, I need help building fence. Somebody that can use a hammer and nails is needed example. Or Erin could write I'm going to be working in the greenhouse today, experienced weedneeded, or I need help moving hoses around. Whatever you guys need just write it on the volunteer board and tell them what time you need them and they'll come and help you. I think they welcome the idea of getting out of their motorhome and doing things as a new experience and that's why their in their motorhome anyway is to see life the United States. They want to experience something new in their life. And just make sure that they understand that it's for free labor.
There was a lot of swing in that bar as you drove around. Keeping the wheels on and attaching it more rigidly to the gator I think would solve that problem. You could retrofit it to be like an attachment to the gator much like a bucket or forks for the bobcat. Overall it looks as though you have a winner. "The Metal Mower" ;)
Mike, use Loc-Tite with threaded material. It'll facilitate secure work for outdoor and other work. I'm not connected to that company, but I use their product. Like your vids.
Your magnet system is what hoestlers use on their yard goats. As they drive around the yard moving trailers in and out . No way you can leave it on one of your rigs . Well, maybe the lawn mower. Lol
This is a fitting subject for the man, Mike, with a "magnetic personality"! Sorry, couldn't help the pun Mike. I hope you take it as the light hearted quip it's meant to be. Thanks for our daily dose of "Our Wyoming Life"! BTW, I seem to have observed that the middle of your magnet bar, where the two join together, still has a wee bit of sag and could cause a future break point. I was wondering if you might could install a wheel in the middle since you have two left. But I am not saying it's anything less than a great idea on your part.
I remember the day(s) my Mom would call me to find those teeny tiny she dropped now when I drop something I get my baggless vacuum cleaner and let it do that job and dump the contents on a clean paper towel “Adapt & overcome!” Military training
Hey Mike on your magnet why don't you put the other two wheels in the center of both of them that way you have three points of contact on the ground and it should keep her from sagging and bowing
You have done so much with so little for so long, You are now qualified to do everything with nothing. Bravo Drag those rusty screws across a bar of hand soap to aid reinsertion. Thanks for sharing, Mike
Odd, I was subscribed. But I've heard of people getting unsubbed on other channels, so not surprising. My first thought when you said the magnet was flexing in the middle was to undo the bolt and put a chain around the bolt to hold the center up, instead of risking it bending in the future.
They already have been doing that this summer. It is a free program for people called boondocking or where they go to a ranch or interesting private property. I think he walked around and behind one yesterday?
Mike, I sincerely appreciate the patience and humor you display when addressing comments from previous videos!
Thanks Chuck
LOL @ “the calves are not allowed to play with lighters.” Good idea!
Name one of the cows Zippo but it’ll never be able to flip the cap open
😄😄😄

Very unique magnet for picking up metal. Very creative.
Stick a wheel or two in the middle as well, that will take care of some more drag.
Just what I was thinking
or a aluminum plate stiffener at the center joint.....
I thought it was really funny when the pigs were running around yesterday. When you first spotted them one looked up at you and said “Hi Dad”, then turned around and high tailed it out of there.

Like the magnet idea Mike
Enjoyed this session as much as any. I love problem solving activities.

On the magnet take it back a part and add a. Wheel in the center and you got it 👍
Love the Bennie Hill style music while you're driving around!
My humor shows my age, I guess.
Our circle of friends loved Benny Hill also. My favorite character on there was his little sidekick bald-headed 80 year old looking friend that he would pat him on his head real fast and then take off with that funny fast sperd running they would do.
Magnets yaaaaaay good job Mike. It’s amazing watching to watch you do so all by yourself WOW 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Love your ideas and the way they all come together.
Mike those good looking calves are really relaxed, a good thing! I love these daily vlog posts, there is something always new to see. Take care...

Mike, loose the bolt and use each bracket to bridge the gap. I would also use blue lock tight on the screws. Good morning from Sacramento Ca.
Mike, since you left the brackets on maybe you could build an arm (similar to what's on the back of your hay tractor for rear pulling) or attach arms similar to bucket or push blade for front-end.
Yay, jack of all trades, master of none, learn as you go . Gilbert is smiling at you Mike..we are too......
Hey great video hope your well and I'm glad I'm to be a subscriber of your awesome channel. My regards go to you Mike and Erin the kids and the ranch
Cool idea. Could be good thing to get the kids started on to learn driving, they would love it. Maybe Harbor will find one for lego brick picking up some day. Lol

I have lots of all thread lol.

Your humor today had me cracking up. Thanks!
Great new tool for the ranch, fix the middle with another wheel should fix the drag.
Great video and put a wheel in the middle thanks for sharing
Been using these for years on construction sites. Saves on flats.
Good job today Mike, I like the magnetic bar.
Use the wood handle mounting brackets and put a support bracket to decrease the deflection
If you use a short chain on the middle of the magnet bar, that's probably all in needs. Easy and cheep. That is a great idea though.
1. Rivit an aluminum strongback to. the front or back side to remove the bow. 2. place a skid in place of the wheel at each end so it travels at a more uniform distance from the ground.
Great ideal for the magnets.

Looks like I wasn't the first to think of the extra wheel Lol
I use a wood broom handle with round neodymium magnets and on the end are Rollerblade wheels. I pull behind atv in dry lake bed hunting meteorites .
put piece of angle iron over middle
Oh my gosh the calves not allowed to play with lighters. Good one Mike
Thats a great Idea Mike
Love the everyday videos
Hi to Our Wyoming life
Yeah I was worried I know.....lol. I just think those two are going to get in some cow trouble with that tank.
that picked up quite a bit of stuff it's amazing whats under the dirt a bit. That's a great thinger picker upper.
It will come in handy

howdy....you all have a good day...
Great ideA!! Thank you for sharing!!
You should have a chain in the center over the screws and attach the chain to the bumper like you did to the ends.
Mike always has a tool or an idea that just does moves it forward he himself is a swiss army man...
Nice job on the tear down Mike👏🙌!
Great idea using the bar magnet method 💥.
JO JO IN VT 💕😄
Great idea 💡
A poor man's FOD bar. Yes to see GOD bars daily on the flightline. You're sure are an Air Force guy. Retired Air For a myself. Love the channel.
Bravo! Another informative video.

I would put wheels back on end too and tow with wheels.
Fantastic!

Put one of the wheels back into the middle of the magnet, like a tillage or planting tool.
Yes, that's what I was going to say
Nice Oakleys Mike!
I wonder if you can put a tire in the middle if that would take away that sagging effect.
Gloves Mike. You lost some when you came back into the barn on the door rail. You will be amazed at how much you will find.
Your magnet system is what hoestlers use on their yard goats. As they drive around the yard moving trailers in and out . No way you can leave it on one of your rigs .
Well, maybe the lawn mower. Lol
Post were split so you would have more nailing surface.making it stronger for the bulls.
Good deal!

Don't be so polarizing.

Hey Mike on your magnet why don't you put the other two wheels in the center of both of them that way you have three points of contact on the ground and it should keep her from sagging and bowing
I think you need to add one of those wheels to the center to keep it from bowing.
Lol.... I laughed out load.... oh my word... “the calf’s aren’t allowed to play with lighters”!
Could you put a wheel in the center between the two pieces.
Add the center wheel back in and i think you got it.
You have done so much with so little for so long,
You are now qualified to do everything with nothing. Bravo
Drag those rusty screws across a bar of hand soap to aid reinsertion.
Thanks for sharing, Mike
Ingenious! I love how your mind works. And those calves look good. Are they on hay too?
A 3rd set of chains in the middle may have worked too.
Would a tire in the middle section help with the slight buckle ? Great inventive idea 👍
I just realized I'm watching this video while munching on some OWL Jerky.
Odd, I was subscribed. But I've heard of people getting unsubbed on other channels, so not surprising.
My first thought when you said the magnet was flexing in the middle was to undo the bolt and put a chain around the bolt to hold the center up, instead of risking it bending in the future.
I reckon your kids could pull that with their Peg Perego Gator.
Put a wheel in the middle. That will take the flex out of it
Great idea. I’ve aways use a metal detector and it would take me hours.
A sliver??🤔 We call it a splinter, your funny Mike.
We used to go camping. I wonder if you can’t use part of your property to make a campground
They already have been doing that this summer. It is a free program for people called boondocking or where they go to a ranch or interesting private property.
I think he walked around and behind one yesterday?
Tbe brackets where the handles attach - could you attach a chain or a bungee cord on them and attach that to the Gator for more stability -
You should do another video about the farm store get your new subscribers And showing them where the food comes from you haven’t done one in a while
Yes but what about the matches?😊 I think I would check to see if the 🐖 had ran away. What about a chain in the middle .
Save all the found nails and screws and take them to the steel recyle center
Dang! Got enough chest freezers behind you?
Not worried about them playing with lighters. Just that they like to rub up against things.
So do i
