Flicka's voice operated so differently than many other lyric Mezzos. Especially of today. It has a richness and core that many don't have. They have a hollow sound. She doesn't. It's so earthy. And yet it has a delicacy and smoothness that is really luscious texturally. Her voice "speaks" a lot more than many others. My other favorite was Troyanos. Same fach but so different.
Two great divas and artists. She sings Zerlina from "Don Giovanni", trying to salvage her relationship with Masseto. La Von Stade was a diva who was universally loved - no rivalries. The soul of beauty of beauty and charm.
Wasn't she phenomenal? It took me years of study and then going back to her voice after knowing so many other voices to really understand her mastery. Sometimes even the simplicity speaks to the innate musicality she had.
Bellissima: A womanly vocal beauty with the sweet youthful agility. Excellent transitions from her lilting head register to her lovely warm chest register!
Amazing. In her prime, there wasn't lyric mezzo around who could match the warmth and suppleness of Flicka's mid-upper register. Her high G at 3:57 is just breathtaking.
I beg your pardon? That is normal for all singers, that the career at some point is ended. as the voiced and artist grow older and wiser: After a beautiful career that is wise to begin a new life phase.

Very different, indeed.

The performance of Mahler's 4th finale is superb. Von Stade is amazing.
Audrey Hepburn and Frederica Von Stade. It doesn't get any better.
Beautiful and believable delivery - a true opera singer

She also sings Mahler's 4th Symphony finale.... She is sooooo wonderful.....
Ach wie wunderschön! Frederica von Stade! Sie hat uns begeistert! Viele Grüße Bernd.

Gorgeous!
Musicalidad exquisita.
De la beauté, de la classe et douceur
Pure bliss!
BRAVISSIMA.....
What year was this? Hepburn, precious lady. von Stade, voice well placed. No TMJ there.
UNA BELLEZA PARA DISTRUTAR
Year please?

Such a beautiful voice and such a pity she couldn't keep it-now that she is old😢

FVS had a great artistic integrity. Compare that to certain decadent tenor turned a pseudo baritone and then will talk.
@@jjlungdoc7472 I am not critizising von Stade, and if some tenors like to make a fool of themeselves it is their problem
@@bauchmann9971 understood. Thanks for reply
We all lose abilities as we age. It's a great cruelty but I agree that a voice like that should be ageless.
