WWU’s Melaku Akalwold takes the violin to new heights

Western Washington University student Melaku Akalwold started playing the violin in a fifth-grade strings program and never stopped. “When it came time to figure out what I was going to do in college, I just couldn’t bear to not do music,” he says. Melaku shares what life is like at Western as a student violinist and how he plans to help make music more accessible to kids in school.
