- A massive typhoon slammed into Guam overnight with up to 140 mile per hour winds. NBC News’ Erin McLaughlin reports on the damage and power loss the island is facing.

That was not a fun storm. You could feel the drop in air pressure in your ears. The weird air flow in the building was causing overhead panels to aggressively flutter. My apartment balcony door was annihilated into thousands of glass chunks and my surviving windows sounded like they had some unending demonic scream rattling them. After the storm passed, the road behind the apartment building was filled with mangled solar panels and rocks torn off the adjacent cliff.

Wow, yep, I experienced 2 monster typhoons when I was at Anderson AFB during 1980-81. Happy you survived all that glass!
I was stationed on Guam about 2 months after Super Typhoon Pamela … had a couple of Earthquakes while stationed there but no typhoons …

I used to work at a grocery store in town here with a lady from Guam...I was fascinated because I'd never met anyone from there! She's very nice, I hope she hadn't gone back for a visit just now...

As a person who experienced this typhoon, this typhoon saved guam, it made everything green and more flowers blooming all we need to worry about is all the people who lost there home sadlt.

Appreciate all the love! Most structures here on Guam are concrete, and thus, it has been reported that no lives were lost. I can’t say that about the island’s many animals though. 😢

Do people even realize what 140 mph winds are like? I mean HALF that, 70 mph winds, are horrendously destructive.
I had a major branch break off of my huge Deodar Cedar, ~14" diameter, landing on the neighbor's roof - damaging it. Our windstorm here in the south San Francisco bay area in March had wind gusts that were around 30-35 mph. Lots of big branches were downed, some trees uplifted. 140 mph? If you go outside and get hit by a pebble it would be like being shot with a gun. (I know bullets are faster than 140 mph, but a 140 mph pebble in the head? Deadly.)
Oddly enough it would be worse if said storm hit San Fran. The trees on Guam have to go through this gauntlet of natural selection not only from typhoons but earthquakes as well. So while trees were for sure knocked down and branches all over the place, mother nature has thoroughly screened and filled our jungles with trees that can handle this type of storm.
@@paulinotou True. We folk in mild-weather suburbia often don't realize that the non-native trees we have everywhere (like my Deodar Cedar, from the Middle-East originally (Lebanon, I believe) and my Chinese Elm are not adapted to the occasional harsh weather we get.

saipan didnt get to experience that typhoon mawar we experienced it it was windy very windy but not as intense as that typhoon it only lasted for 4 days for me and then in monday it was sunny again

i live there 😂 all my life and grow adult i know how strong the typhoon there and it’s hard with no power and water we tried this for a month i was lucky that we have small fish pond that i filled it up with water just for the rest room used .. God bless everyone i hope u guys will recover very soon

I had one thought, which was the people of Guam would want the grassroots help if the U.S. Navy is providing assistance, and then the videos stopped on the International reports. I thought I learned Guam is a protectorate; but at the same time, a standing army might not be safe.

Not every 20. Every year but the 300 mph is more like 5 to ten. Every year at least 100 mph. This is the tropics. It's fun at 100. Just have to be careful and bring in all the pets and flowers. Trees are fine. Just go bald for awhile. You learn to bbq.
