The lost counties was not a political issue hence the referendum the counties were originally part of that Banyoro kingdom but was annexed after the Buganda helped the British colonialists defeat king Kabalega and thereafter Buganda was given the two counties as a reward, when independence was due the departing British decided with all present at Lancaster house that the lost counties issue should be sorted out by referendum after independence to ask the people there to decide where to belong to for matters of marking constituencies, IT HAD NORTHING TO DO WITH OBOTE AND OBOTE WOULD DO NOTHING TO ALTER WHATEVER HAD BEEN AGREED. SADLY THEY VOTED TO GO BACK TO BUNYORO AND BUGANDA WAS NOT VERY AMUSED AND THAT REPLAYED ITSELF IN THE EARLY 2000'S WHEN THE PRIME MINISTER OF BUGANDA TRIED TO VISIT KAYUNGA!!!!! IN A NUTSHELL THE KABAKA EVENTUALLY WAS DECEIVED AND PLOTTED TO OVERTHROW HIS OWN GOVERNMENT SADLY OBOTE GOT WIND OF IT THROUGH A UNHAPPY WIFE OF A POLYGAMOUS MENGO GOVERNMENT MINSTER AND SENT AMIN TO CHECK FOR THE GUNS AT THE LUBIRI PLACE AND ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE THEY FIRED AT AMIN, AMIN BLOW UP THE ALL PALACE AND THERE IN THE BASEMENT WERE THE 100'S OF GUNS NOT THE STANDARD GOVERNMENT ARMS (G3) FOREIGN JOURNALISTS WERE IMMEDIATELY ALLOWED TO VIEW THE FIND, THE KABAKA FLED THE BAGANDA HATED OBOTE UGANDA'S ON;LY INCLUSIVE GOVERNMENT ENDED THAT DAY. see www.itnsource.com

So if the kabaka was the president too what was he going to over throw, and since they had collaborated as leaders obote could still talk to him be4 taking action, and if you say kabaka side fired first then y did amin cdf by then had to first deploy soilders everywhere be4 the attack so it was a deliberate move. @@emetuderic9608 UPC had made an alliance with KY and they were in gov't, so UPC/ Obote shouldn't have resurrected the lost county issue. So the resurrection of the issue was used as a tool to smash Buganda and it's king bcoz Obote never trusted Baganda. Muteesa is to blame for having ignored advise from high Buganda and religious officials not to ally with UPC. Muteesa ignored a Muganda Kiwanuka's DP and opted for a Langi Obote. So he had to pay a price. Sadly, that price spilled to us up to this very day.
