EU SUMMIT: Green Deal and Defence Hofreiter praises Von der Leyen’s successes
Shortly before the decisive EU summit on Thursday, the heads of state and government of the major European party families agreed to nominate CDU politician Ursula von der Leyen for a second term as President of the EU Commission. The agreement provides for the liberal Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas to be given the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs. The former Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa is to be elected President of the body of heads of state and government. The basis for the agreement is the result of the European elections just over two weeks ago. Green MEP Anton Hofreiter commented on the decision and stressed that von der Leyen was a good Commission President who stayed the course in supporting Ukraine, made Europe more geostrategic and stronger in defense, and continued the Green Deal to promote competitiveness and environmental protection.
