New players, he picked the best location. Anything farther and you will regret all the RUNNING you have to do for all of Tier 1. You can build Tier 2 more to the south and leave your Tier 1 location for resource gathering.
I play coop with friends and we picked a different location closer to where the river reeds are, but agree my initial base is good for early game. Now I plan to expand via outposts to help with higher tier requirements. Thanks for watching and commenting!
