Thanks, James! Always appreciate your leads on inexpensive paper. I have this pen, also a M nib with no breather hole, not sure why. I like the pen, but it does hard
start, so some ink flow issue for me, too. I don't know what pricey pen this resembles, but lots of pens have this shape, not a problem I have. Nice job per usual!

Thanks for the review. So happy I watched your review after I bought mine purple version with EF nib. It was no problem to pull a nib of (as well as a feed). Also it writes very smooth and lovely wet for EF. Amazing pen for $20.

Just got mine in blue with a fine nib. It writes absolutely perfect. No hard starts, no skips. But I had very different experiences with Moonman/Majohn nibs. The ones on their M600 are very good, the ones on the M800 are underwhelming (but you can replace them with Bock nibs).

  • @P90Camper

Great review! I have the Green Fireworks in a nib and it has a breather hole. I can tell you it was perfect and smooth out of the box. I have micromesh and use it mainly on the Jinhao's I sometimes get. I love my T5 - perhaps the smoothest Moonman nib I have between the A1, T1, and C1. The other think I thought stood out was how smooth the cap threads are - they did a great job with these. I think this is another great pen by Majohn/Moonman. I can tell you this is 100 times smoother than the TWSBI F. Thank you for a great video!
Edit #1 - My T5 has a breather hole. chrisrap52's T5 also does not have a breather hole. I am not sure if this holds true for all Moomnam vs nibs. Strange, but perhaps by design.
Edit #2 - The nib and feed are friction fit and can be removed. Check out the review done by chrisrap52 where he has his apart. I am guessing yours is just being stubborn :-). To be clear, I have not tried to take mine apart.

@@JG3Reviews I know exactly how you feel and have done the same:-) On the T5 I was convinced the section unscrewed from the body because I could see threads through the ink window as I looked toward the end finial. I cranked on it, and was getting ready to add more leverage, but sanity (or experience) finally kicked in... I must be getting old. Thanks again!

A couple of years ago I discovered Moonman pens, and I was pretty impressed with the quality for the price, and loved their EF nibs. As a result, I started more or less collecting a lot of them, and I have a BUNCH of them at this point. If my finances were in a little better shape, I'd definitely get one of these in the matte black. But, as it is, yeah the difficulty cleaning it and disassembling it are negatives. If it was $19.59 instead of $29.59, I'd probably definitely get it just to continue my Moonman/Majohn collection, but I'm not sure I like it enough to buy it at this price point.
    Good review.
Of course, you know my standard complaint by now. I wish some of you guys would review the EF nibs more often! lol

I really do neglect the EF, it's true. I have it in my head that I don't like them, yet the few I have in my collection I do like...will have to add that to the list for the future.

@@JG3Reviews I noticed, that reviewers don't adjust their writing style, at all, for the nib or pen to work it's best. I've learned over time, coming back to some pens I didn't like in the past that, if I just wrote a little slower, used only enough weight... Lots of variables! We all evolve don't we? I recently purchased two. One with a Medium nib in red and one Extra Fine in blue. The Medium is quite a gusher on mine, which I love. I have it inked with Sailor’s 50 States Oklahoma, which is a lovely match. The Extra Fine is also perfect, but not quite as wet. It is inked with Caran d’Ache Hypnotic Turquoise. I have not tried to remove the nibs, but I’m a little worried about the cleaning. I’ll know more soon enough. Thank you for your video. I thought it was insightful to see your experience. I have 3 T5's and was able to pull nib & feed from all with minimal effort. Reminds me of PenBBS, a few I cannot pull nib, the rest NP. When I can't pull nib, I soak the nib & feed in some soapy water. The section appears to be glued in. Once you remove feed, I use a syringe to clean out barrel. It appears Majohn/Moonman has a variety of nibs where breather hole is missing. Maybe nibs come from different niib makers, some don't have breather holes. I enjoy the medium nib, writes well for me. Thanks for your objective review. I need to get some Walmart paper.

Thanks for the review. Great that you mention the nib is not readily swappable as I have been swapping nibs recently.
I like the pen in terms of style and color, though. The ink window is a bonus, for sure for a metal pen or an opaque resin body.

As a couple others have pointed out, it may be that my pen's nib unit is just particularly stubborn, and that a nib swap is still doable. I'll give it another go when I clean it next.
The Tianzi is available on Etsy. It is a really beautiful pen in the blue. I've not seen it in person, but the green looks appealing as well.

I just recently purchased one of these pens and the nib is labeled Moonman, but instead of the nib not being replaceable, it was fitted with a screw in nib unit which is exactly the same as my Asvine pens. I have switched out the nibs in the Asvines and replaced them with Goulet stub nibs which I prefer. I can replace this T5 nib as easily as my other Majohn or the Asvine pens.

I have 2 of these pens. With a rubber grip this nib/feed easily pulls out and can be replaced with a JOWO nib. I did this on both of mine with ease. Both of mine have been in my daily rotation for the last month or so and have performed exceptionally. I actually like the metal band. I feel it fits the overall design and adds some uniqueness to the pen from the run of the mill bands most pens have. I find when holding the pen I run my thumb across the lines for the tactile feel almost like a fidget tool. Interestingly I moved the nib the pen came with to a Karas pen where it performs remarkably well.

The T5 came, and I love writing with it, although the pen's design is not so attractive the price is reasonable and good quality. Just that the pen's brand is not consistent, the metal trim writes Majohn whereas the fine nib writes Moonman. I find the clear ink window to be extremely useful for a piston filler pen. I got the Pelikan M200 and M205 both have dark ink window which makes ink level observation tedious.

Thanks for this review. I can see by your writing example that yours is quite dry, indeed. The T5 matte black medium is my daily writer. I'm using it, unmodified, with Diamine Kensington Blue. No hard starts at all and actually quite wet. But maybe it's because Diamine seems to add quite an amount of surfactant in their inks.

With a little force, not too much, I was able to unscrew the *Moonman unit* from the T5. It was so tight that the two o-rings were a bit worn. After that it is very easy to clean. By the way, when the T5 came out a month ago it was a €20 pen delivered.

And it is now my wettest writing pen! By Far!And I now use this method on every new fountain pen i get! Just don't over do it. I have quite a few Moonman/Majohn FPs but I'm not quite sure why. They rarely set my pulse racing and their nibs feel quite generic. As a result they tend to be a bit of a "meh" brand to me. Reasonable but nothing groundbreaking, playing in a field packed out with more interesting competition. Twsbi, PenBBS and others seem to execute things better. I thought this one might be different, but then you pointed out the lack of serviceability. For me that absolutely is a deal breaker, so you have once again saved me some cash. Thank you.
One question does arise though. I've seen you produce your Lamy 2000 a couple of times now but I'm not sure if you've ever reviewed it. Are you pleased with yours? I still like mine but I played it safe by getting a medium nib & keep higher end inks in it. Despite that, the nib occasionally squeaks in a slightly grating way that I don't love. It's the only negative on my whole Lamy 2000 experience so far.

The Aurora optima is indeed a great item with true heritage. There are, however, some advantages to using the hommage instead: (i). it's 20 times cheaper, but does not write 20 times less well. (ii) You won't have to constantly fear dropping, breaking it or losing it. (iii - and this is personal) I actually like the matte black a lot better than the colors available in the original. (vi) Most people really couldn't care less about 'heritage' and other forms of bragging rights. To them, these are just hollow, and meaningless phrases.
