Great Video although some minor factual errors. Bajirao was not the son of Shahu. He was the son of the earlier Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath - (Prime minister). Bajirao was busy with southern expedition when Nizam encroached Maratha territories near Pune. Great Presentation skills though.

@@hannanhub1717 because he needed a treaty with someone who would see the terms of the Treaty through.
He did not want to create a power vacuum in the Deccan which the Mughals would eventually fill with a new governor.
Plus, a regional state next to you, against a larger empire which wants to destroy you is incredibly desirable.
Also, because the Nizam sued for peace terms, and killing him then would accrue a bleak fate for Maratha Generals who would be captured in the future wars to come.

If I can, I would like to change the name of some Indian army regiments with that of Indian ones. 1st Skinner Horse can be called as Peshwa Baji Rao Cavalry (PBRC). Seems like the war was won before it started in the building of the respective war machines. The mounted Mahrattas (sp?) were just way more mobile than the pursuing Muslim army. They could pillage and burn, unopposed, and avoid any pitched battles until they caught Nizam Ul-Mulk away from his big guns. I don't think it took any great planning. The strategy played itself. All he had to do was be opportunistic, and eventually he was going to wrong-foot Ul-Mulk.

Managing the logistics of such a huge army and at this speed is a great achievement. Under Bajirao, the Maratha empire expanded almost tenfold. BTW He fought around 40 battles in his lifetime and won all of them.

Good video, but there are 3 inaccuracies.
    1. That is not the Maratha flag. It should be just a plain saffron swallowtail, called Bhagawā Jhendā. The Maratha emperor's (Shahu's) personal flag had a golden border, and was called Zarī Patakā.
    2. Shahu was released by the Mughal court AFTER the death of Aurangzeb, not before.
    3. Peshwa Bajirao was not the son of king Shahu. He was the son of Balaji Vishwanath, the first Peshwa (Prime Minister) of king Shahu.

Bajirao fought over 41 battles and is reputed to have never lost one. His speed used to catch his adversaries offguard. E.g. later in 1737 when he sacked Delhi, his army reached the Delhi in 48 hours, when it usually took 10 days to cover the same distance in those times.
Marathas even had formidable navy. Their admiral Kanhiji Angre defeated British, Portuguese and Dutch navies on a number of occasions. These were small battles, not big wars with two navies going head-to-head against one another. Marathas used hit and run tactics not only on the land, but also on the waters. British had technologically advance battleships, whereas Marathas had small, lightweight and faster vessels. Maratha-British naval battles would be an interesting topic to cover.

@ITS FACTZ Marathas under Bajirao were in a constant state of war with Mughals, Nizam, Portuguese, Siddis, etc expanding Maratha kingdom. His major battles include Maalwa, Dhaar, Aurangabad, Gujarat, Paalkhed, Ahmedabad, Udaypur, Firojabad, Delhi, Bhopal, Vasai, Bundelkhand, Janjira. Many sources I read claim under his rule, Marathas had fought 41 battles. As someone has pointed out rightly here, he did not participate in some of them, like for example battle of Vasai, which was led by his brother Chimajiappa. I don't see why that could be a problem. They may not be as grand as the ones fought by Alexander. I don't see the point in comparison the two. Anyway the main focus of my comment was about his superior battle tactics based on his fast cavalry.

Sadashiv Rao Bhau was a capable general and commander and had won several battles and campaigns in the Deccan and the South, but he was not used to the North and Unlike Malharrao Holkar and Raghunathrao, both of whom had deep knowledge of northern India, Sadashivrao was unfamiliar with the personages and politics of the region. This was the main reason for the loss.
Panipat also caused many vassals and subordinates of the Marathas to gain confidence and they started revolting and seceding, it also caused political turmoil in the Maratha court.
Though Abdali won the battle, he also had heavy casualties on his side and sought peace with the Marathas. Abdali sent a letter to Nanasaheb Peshwa (who was moving towards Delhi, albeit at a very slow pace to join Bhau against Abdali) appealing to the Peshwa . It's good to be patriotic but don't be jingoistic.Remember that it was the largest battle of 18th century in the entire world . An ENTIRE GENERATION of military talent was WIPED OUT and you are saying it had no effect.Lol😂😂😂.Had the Marathas won they would have conquered bengal, awadh,Punjab .That means they would have conquered most of North india.their expansion was halted forever by Abdali.Marathas had planned to conquer Afghanistan to get rid of Abdali. That was their mistake.A peace deal with Abdali would have been better as Abdali intended to make peace with Marathas.Afghanistan is known as the 'Graveyard of Empires' for a reason. Nizam ul Mulk was overconfident of his Unparalleled Guns and Cavalry so he lost to Marathas.Marathas were overconfident of their Guns so they lost to Abdali.History repeats itself if you don't learn from it.

Peshwa Baji Rao would have achieved fame that rivals Caesar had he been alive for a few more years. He died of a heat stroke at an early age of 40. Also Peshwas are Brahmins(priest origin) (different caste than Marathas, the actual kings). His father was Balaji Vishwanath the previous Peshwa and not Shahu the actual king.

Operational and strategic superiority is almost guaranteed to defeat tactical superiority in warfare.
Throughout his career Bajirao avoided pitched battles, a lesson other generals and commanders of the Maratha Empire followed in earnest, and this allowed them to defeat slower Mughal Armies that were far too conservative to easily adapt to changing nature of warfare.
Although it must be said that had any Maratha army faced a Mughal Army in open battle up until 1710, it would have been shattered before the disciplined firepower of North Indian matchlockmen and superior Mughal artillery which was unrivalled in India until the rise of regional powers.
The Mughals as well as the Marathas suffered the lack of infrastructure which was necessary to train proper officers and this elmeant that both Empires ( the Marathas became a Confederacy later on) relied on individual talents of nobles.
They did employ mercenaries and tried to create a hodge podge system of native recruits commanded by foreign mercenaries, but this only increased expenses and since both these powers spent the majority of their surplus on their military and personal luxury of the nobles, their economies did not yield enough revenue to support modern armies.
Once again, a brilliant video, and all Hail Pratapsurya Peshwa Bajirao Ballal!

@@leaveme3559 the Europeans, the Mughals, the Nawabs of the North and Nizam-ul-Mulk, all commanded superior artillery and musketeer formations in comparison to the Marathas, until a few Maratha states such as the Holkars and the Scindias established professional infantry formations under European mercenaries such as Benoit de Boigne and his Campoo Batallions.
It was only the Gardi infantry which could hold its own against a Mughal Army in a pitched battle, but they were far too few to change the fate of a pitched battle.
Even at the Third Battle of Panipat, most of the Maratha infantry had brought spears and shields, with only the Gardi infantry using Muskets.
Maratha artillery was far too cumbersome and their lighter guns were no match for Mughal horse artillery. They also lacked zamburaks or shaturnals, a common feature among North Indian armies such as those of the Nawab of Awadh. Their artillery was also disorganised, with no standard calibre, no standard draw carriage to transport the guns themselves and an overall hodge podge of a manufacturing infrastructure.
Not to mention the fact that the Mughals and North Indians had by the 1650's refined the art of gun making so that their Matchlocks were more accurate and lethal than a musket at a longer range albeit at the cost of firepower.
They used both bronze and iron to forge their cannons giving them a lighter weight and more accuracy.
North Indian light guns, specifically their horse drawn artillery, were on par with Europe until the 1730's.
