"DULCES BESOS" / "VIVA SEGUIN" Gilberto Perez Y Sus Compadres (1982 LP REMASTERED 32-bit)

GILBERTO PEREZ, known as "El Gigante de Mercedes", "El Compadre mas padre" & "El Consentido de Laredo," launched his professional, solo music career in 1959 with the release of one of his biggest hits "El Dia De Tu Boda" on Falcon Records, written by Ramon Medina. Many more hits followed, and he remained with Falcon till around 1966. After that period with Falcon, Gilberto decided to produce and release his recordings himself under his own record label which he named "NUEVO" Records. It went on that way up until 1982 when he joined the prestigious FREDDIE Records of Corpus Christi, Texas. This album here titled "Dulces Besos" & "Viva Seguin" is his first production out of three for the Freddie label. It was still produced and recorded @ Gilberto's Nuevo Recording Studio in Mercedes, TX. but released exclusively by Freddie Records. In this LP., RAMON MEDINA reunites with Gilberto, blending in his unique segunda voz and adding his unmistakable touch to the bajo sexto. Ramon had left "LOS COMPADRES" to become Tony de la Rosa's bajo player in the early 70's, but often lended a helping hand on Gilberto's recordings. Stand-out songs include the title tracks Dulces Besos & Viva Seguin, which is mostly played as an instrumental piece, only this time Gilberto adds the lyrics. "Guitarras Alegres" is another interesting track in which you can hear Gilberto Sr. & Jr. dueling it out on the electric guitars, and an upgraded version of "Long Tall Texan" which had previously been recorded in the 60's, is also included.
