- The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3 continues in Minecraft 1.21 - the Tricky Trials Update!
In today's video, I'm answering 101 Questions about Minecraft, submitted by YOU to my Community page here on UA-cam. Curious which biomes spawn Trial Chambers? What colour wool a Jeb Sheep gives you? What's the most complex crafting recipe? Which biome is the hardest to start in? What else could the Heavy Core be used for?
We answer all this and more in today's episode! If you have any alternate answers to these questions, let me know in the comments - I'd love to hear them!

Pix quite recently: "I must let those cows go now, they've been rather cramped in there and I don't need them for beef anymore"
Pix today: * brutally murders cows by turning them into slimes *
"Remember; you started with nothing, and you made it this far."
I feel like this is prime advice not for Minecraft, but in life. Thanks Pix, for saying just what I needed to hear today, regardless of context 🙏🏼♥️
Oh, I love the idea of an arrow that places a torch! That would be incredible for caving
Yeah I’ve said that for years, but with a burnout time of five minutes like item despawn, since arrows are obviously a lot less massive than whole torches.
That and simply dropping a torch into a dark place leaves torch light for some limited amount of time. This way you can see what’s down in a deep hole but it’s more realistic than being able to permanently light up the area from a distance.
They go out because they’re laying on their side instead of standing.
My approach to designing roofs is to close my eyes, yell "Raise the roof!" open my eyes and start working on the roof
Keep up the good work, Pix!
Pix can be such a smartass sometimes
"Do you think fletching tables will ever be given functionality?"
"They already have one. They turn villagers into fletchers" 😂
"What was the question?" made me actually choke on my tea, I was laughing so much xD
the minecraft player model's foot is 4 pixels long, and if one block is 1 metre and 16 pixels, that makes the foot 25 cm long. Converted to shoe sizes, it's 39-40 european, 7 UK and 9 US.
That is however ignoring the fact that the foot is completely square so a regular shoe wouldnt fit
Keep in mind Prowl8413 likes mending bows, which are far superior to infinity ones :p
Prowl is here didn’t expect that and I disagree infinity is way better
I rescind my endorsement
@@Pixlriffs waiting for a mending bow guide episode. You gotta show your viewers the right way ;)
@prowl Ah I see you’re a person of refined taste. Let us laugh at inferior infinity bow users as they break their bows and run out of tipped/spectral arrows anyway.
2:00 chugging a jug of vanilla extract, no wonder game feels harder right after
Hey Pix, Zloy called; he misses you
Oh, that's right. Not only can cake be composted, but unless I'm wrong it's one of only two things (the other being Pumpkin Pie) that are *guaranteed* to advance the composter one stage.
Very true!
Far as I'm aware using Nether wart and warped Nether wart blocks do too
What about whole melon and pumpkin?
@darknesswave100 Y'all have me checking the wtiki. Crimson and Warped Netherwart Blocks have an 85% chance. Pumpkins and melons 65%.
@@zachwillett5853 must be my brain thinking it was guaranteed since when I'm getting the wood from the Nether trees it always feels like it goes up when I compost it. Probably since you get so much of it from them it feels that way
Gotta love how the Skompass got mentioned 🤣
I never realized I was using the Skompass for ages without knowing it was a Skompass lol
While answering the roof question, looking at the factory roof and saying "I don't know" is quite funny 4:55
One tip on the question of reducing lag: make sure you place a torch or other light block near redstone that changes power level frequently. This stops the flickering of light and shadows and thus takes less of a toll on the games lighting engine. Also getting fabric -> sodium -> nvidium (last one only if you're okay playing without shaders) does a ton for your frames.
instead of wool, people should build their redstone on froglights and shroomlights. glowstone and sea lanterns counts as glass, but both froglights and shroomlights count as solid blocks
Light updates are a complete non-issue since 1.20. as the light engine got reworked and made mods like Phosphor and Starlight obsolete. Unless you have massive amounts of flying machines moving light blocks, you should be completely fine letting the activity of your redstone contraptions generate blinking effects.
Also note that light updates are completely irrelevant to rendering performance.
Oh so that's where the durability info is hiding! Thanks for the answer ❤
When I started playing years ago I watched every survival guide Pixlriffs made. I haven’t played in so long I needed a refresher on everything! So of course I come back to the gold standard of Minecraft guides!
After the item component system was added, you can't get ominous banners with the pattern list displayed in the tooltip, unless you had some before the update, in which case you now own some instances of one of the rarest items in the game.
good to know. thanks!
14:45 I have absolutely not tested this and it isnʼt survival, but you could make an ender pearl entity with a chicken as the owner. I wonder both if that would a) teleport the chicken and b) do fall damage.
21:54 This is 1.21! If you have a wither skeleton farm, consider *blocks* of coal. In theory I prefer those to lava because they fit the most smelts per *stack* (which matters a lot more to me than smelts per item) but in practice they often arenʼt worth it unless you have a lot.
the biggest downside to the coal idea would be that unlike kelp, lava or bamboo, you can't build a wither skeleton farm just anywhere (and item transportation only gets you so far)
@@haz6908 Yeah, that is a downside and why kelp is probably better in general. But he started with “if you have a wither skeleton farm, consider coal”, and thatʼs what I was responding to.
That's right, BUNDLES!
Pix, you are so great at your job 😂 Even knowing what the answers were going to be from stream, this video was 100% worth the watch time with your visual examples and cheeky delivery. 10/10, will always recommend!
You sir, are by far the most knowledgeable and entertaining Minecraft youtuber there is and we are all here for it!
For redstone on wool. I also like that it doesn’t break with normal tools once you have efficiency 5 and beacons. Blocks insta break. And i can’t assured diamond ore like doc 😊
I don’t know why, but I absolutely love the idea of a skill tree, maybe it could cost 5 levels to unlock slightly faster running, or 3 levels to chop down trees quicker, obviously you can do this with enchantments already, but maybe there are other better ideas, like getting more xp for mining a certain ore if you buy that upgrade for 10 levels. I also think that the more you use an item the more levels it will have, and instead of enchanting with your own levels, you enchant the item with it’s own levels. I don’t know, just some food for thought.
I really like the idea of mining faster ores. It gives me lore ideas, like a dwarf character being able to mine gold faster, or something along those lines.
Here's another tip foor inventory hotkeys: Get a mouse that has some buttons on the side, and asign those buttons to a number slot on your hotbar. I have one button for hotbar slot 1, and one for slot 8. It makes it really easy to jump between hotbar slots without scrolling and also swapping out useful items like enderpearls, waterbucket or scaffolding
That's a genius idea! My mouse can do that, but I never thought of that idea before
I have a mouse like this but whenever i play Minecraft i default to scrolling xD. Except my sword on 1
Love learning random fun facts about minecraft and then jamming to Creator at the end lol. Happy Episode 101!!🎉🎉🎉
Regarding locked repeaters, I have an amethyst farm in the spawn chunks that can fire every 3 hours. But if no one is there, no random ticks and the harvesting yields nothing. So I have a random tick detector, and if enough ticks haven't happened, it sends a signal to lock the repeater coming from the main timer so it doesn't harvest partial amethyst.
There's a few situations here and there where you COULD use a locked repeater.
But the question sounded more like situations where you HAVE to use a locked repeater.
At least that's how Pix seemed to have interpreted it.
And like Pix said, the only time you really HAVE to use a locked repeater is when you really want to compact Redstone.
Let's take your Amethyst farm you mentioned for example. You could do the same thing with an AND gate.
(Fire all pistons when both 3h have passed, AND enough ticks happened)
In fact, doing it this way might be more reliable than the way you made it, depending on your circuit.
Because a repeater can be locked both in the OFF or ON state.
So if you lock your repeater at the exact moment the clock hit the 3h mark, all your pistons will get locked in the extended position and no new Amethyst will grow until your random tick detector unlocks it.
Tiny chance of happening, but chance nonetheless.
A self-built logic gate can be used to lock a circuit either ON or OFF, a locked Repeater being able to do both depending on timing actually makes it more complicated to use reliably.
"Bundles!"
On the passive mob with most biomes: Be generous and consider chicken. They spawn in almost all overworld and nether biomes (including rivers and oceans) as part of chicken jockeys, although they will despawn again, and technically it's not a natural passive mob spawn, but an additional mob spawn caused by a spawning baby zombie variant.
The editing of- and jokes in this 101 questions vid were awesome ;)
Love the ominous bottle. Up there with your answer for how to find Herobrine (s1 episode 101) for my favorite question-answer bit
Really appreciate your sense of humor, Pix! This was fun.
Shoutout to the Skompass!
Dude, you are a legend. I learned how to play minecraft entirely from you. Thank you so much.
Thank you for answering my question!
lol I love how you just happened to comment on bundles right before they announced the development!
4:39 oooooohhhhh I *like* that idea a lot!! :¬D that's a damn good idea (arrows of illumination)
@5:33 YAY! Thanks for using my question about minecarts Pix! Keep up the awesome videos!
9:04 ayyy thx for answering my question, cant wait for ep102 :^)
[Ombottle farm here i come!]
Definitely agree on calcite needing a block set. Along with expanding amethyst as well in the far future.
Yay! Skompass mention!
Hello! I love your videos. I haven't seen them since you first started your channel, as I was literally 3 in 2014. I "got" Minecraft in 2020, and I was NOOB. I searched up Survival Minecraft Tutorial. I was interested in two. One was of a guy from Beta/Alpha, and he made a "hidey hole", while the other one was yours, The Minecraaaft Surviall Guuilde. I got hooked up to you, and I got to know about LDShadowLady, SmallishBeans, GeminiTay from you! You are definitely one of the people that got me into Minecraft, others being MagmaMusen and Skip the Tutorial. Thanks!!
Edit: I also got to know about Vanilla Tweaks. I cannot think my life without Vanilla Tweaks!
Also, if you remember me from one of your livestreams, I had given you the idea to tax other people for using copper. I think it was during the livesteam you were adding soul soil as mud to the river in Empires SMP Season 1 (May this SMP rest in peace).
There is so much good stuff in here, that I have watched like 4 times already.
Wow, spouse of babe's not up yet.😂
Look..........me and name have been busy ok?!?! Lmao
But thanks....
Good! They should both stay asleep!
The fluke???
This 😂
15:21 Iiiiiiiiiiiit’s David!
Ah, that’s why I’ve been so confused when I hear you or other YTs talk about having to get another Cartographer to find another structure. I kept remembering the patch notes where that was changed I just thought it was for both versions not just Bedrock
I would say, the most complicated Minecraft crafting recipe is Rabbit Stew. 3:28
Good call. I’d definitely put rabbit stew up there with my other examples
Thanks.
On 4th place, how do you feel about the crossbow.
Including the recipe of its needed tripwire hook. *⁽º⠅*
I enjoy learning random things from this episode. 😊
In terms of pvp, the mace is quite useless. A strength 2 maxed netherite sword does more dps and the mace requires the opponent be in 1 place which obviously isn’t going to happen in pvp. Also netherite armour reduces the boost on wind charges and it can easily be counterable by slow falling arrows/splash potions
Wait I didn’t know you couldn’t bonemeal sugarcane in Java! I suppose Bedrock has it’s advantages then, let’s go 😂
You can be bonemeal small flowers on bedrock but not java.
Not gonna lie.... I opened the app just to see this episode
Me and My Brother love your content🎉🎉🎉
Watching this Under 20 sec of release
Last time I saw a rabbit - episode 100, outside of your blacksmith 😂
I like how your level was 101 for episode 101.. probably happy coincidence but still awesome
14:37 Chickens have an "entity_type" tag called "fall_damage_immune" which includes mobs like iron golems, shulkers, and cats. This special tag gives them immunity to the damage type "fall." This same tag is applied to the player or any mob affected by a slow falling potion.
Skumpass mention :D
😁 always enjoy these episodes in this series.
And BUNDLES 😆
Thank you for answering my question about the enchanting system! I found your answer about having player xp upgrade the player really unique and interesting!
pix, your commentary made me split my sides laughing. :)
I am glad you also wish for a bow with flaming enchantment can shoot torch on wall (and stay there). This will help lighting up ravines and the 1.18 massive caves so much more easily.
Since copper has the most variants, I shall build a copper fortress. :)
Pix, I always enjoy your playful sarcasm ❤
It would be fun to attach things to arrows tears-of-the-kingdom style, like how you can attach brightbloom seeds to arrows there to light things up. Torch arrows and explosive arrows would be great
this was posted at 5 am for me dang
Mods wise: MouseTweaks and ItemSwapper. They sooth some of the inventory interaction woes.
Axiom's also very good for creative mode building/experimenting, you don't need to touch the "Blender/3d modeling" mode of it, the enhancements to Creative mode (move/clone/stack) are soooo nice when designing stuff.
Fresh memories, i still remember watching this episode from season 1
Time files
Awesome. Thanks.
Step 1: Make an automatic bamboo farm
Step 2: Hook up a crafter to it
Profit: Never need to chop down trees to make sticks, chests, barrels etc.
But you do need tree logs to make campfires.
My melons are auto crafted into blocks, I've a PAPER farm instead of a sugar farm, have a bamboo block (Plus a bamboo plank|) farm and gonna make a kelp block farm but gonna need to study some slime block flying machine tutorials.
that was awesome thanks Pix
Klasse, hat mir gut gefallen!
I've been hoping for torch arrows for years!
13:40 smooth stone stairs
This was fun
Damn, the intro still hits
Always a pleasure Pix
On the arrow, would be more likely to have a glow lichen arrow than a torch arrow. I had this idea when they were making the deep dark. It would be nice to shoot an arrow down into a dark cave before you enter so you can see how many mobs are around before you take the plunge.
Yes! David mention!
Awesome! Enjoy your holiday good Sir!
21:06 Concrete has the same color palette as wool and is also fireproof, even if it is more difficult to farm in survival
A lot of (non-Mumbo) technical players actually do prefer concrete over wool (or terracotta) to show circuits, due to its cleaner look. Especially in storage tech and tree farms you can see that a lot, e.g. in pre-designed storage systems, or when showing storage components, such as complex item filter slices or shulker box loaders. The concrete is usually paired with stained glass of the same color if non-conductive blocks are needed.
Yeah I think it’s mostly about how long you’ve been doing redstone, much more likely to favour wool if you were designing circuits before the 1.12 update
about the enchanting change, really think it shouls be something like that after i recently watched solo levelling.
Hello From Canada..Love all vids..I just found out Creepers can blow up Spawners. Didnt know that was possible.
bro, wake up!!! New survival guide ep is here
Bundles! 😃
torch arrow would be insaneeee
20:16 How about the Lodestone Block - in combination with the corresponding compass?
What I'd love from Minecraft would be shield upgrades or maybe another types etc 🤔
so cheeky🤣
15:22 DAVID MY BELOVED ❤
I started a new world on ps4 recently and it put me in the middle of snow and ice as far as I could see. My first food source was rabbit. Theyve come in clutch
skellie horses spawn almost all the time on mushroom islands since the mob cap is so low. On my server i literally farmed them for other players on a large island.
Thank you Pixlriffs!
2:05 “if you name a vindicator Johnny and let it join a pillager patrol, the pillagers start firing their crossbows at everything.”
Me: wait REALLY? I wanna try that!
18:57 “When was the last time any of you saw a rabbit?”
Me, who has a rabbit ranch to sell leaping potions to my SMP: “Surprisingly recently.”
2:57 I think the passive mob that spawns in the most biomes is actually the bat, if it's dark and low enough, since I think the only biome they don't spawn in is Deep Dark... But it's pretty much a useless mob
Or maybe wandering traders with the llamas(?) but I'm not sure about their spawning conditions
I think bats are technically considered “ambient mobs” rather than passive. Which is kind of a useless category, and in every other respect they’re a passive mob, but it’s more about what purpose they serve for the game
I play bedrock, and whenever navigating I use maps and the sun to find my way.
I’m also working on some fun projects like a nether highway to get around, or as an interesting challenge getting the elytra before beating the dragon by bridging out.
I play on a server so I don’t want to kill the dragon without anyone else, so I’m trying to just get around it rather than beating it.
i miss the furnace cart it used to exist on the playstation edition before the bedrock merge since it helped moving up tracks if you didnt have any redstone tracks yet
Watching his videos just to listen to his voice😭❤️
Nice 👌
JC plays steals designs
13:45 It's kind of ironic when people suggest concrete and terracotta. If they wanted to add slabs/stairs, then we would have dyed planks.
Honestly, Mojang has done a pretty good job giving us the lacking colors in recent updates. We got two shades of blue (Warped and Copper), two shades of red (Crimson and Mangrove), a vibrant orange (Copper), a good yellow (Bamboo), plus black (Blackstone) and a larger spectrum of gray (Deepslate, Tuff).
I mean, before 1.16, we had to use Prismarine, Red nether brick, Red sandstone, and Endstone/Sandstone which really don't have the same effect. All we need now is a good green, and maybe a more vibrant purple if Mojang is feeling ambitious.
they will never give dyed planks as that ruins the concept of wood types. they are careful with what building blocks they add
i think pix has a really good point in the "inventory hell" aspect of adding stairs and slabs to concrete. personally, i keep suggesting that they should just replace both stairs and slabs with 1/8th blocks which would have a higher stack limit than 64. this could simplify the issue so you don't have extra slots for stairs and slabs individually. but i don't understand how stairs and slabs relates to wanting dyed planks other than both being inventory hells.
@@ion0057 they will never add 1/8th blocks. That's just unfitting for the game
@@brickbot2.038 I've seen modpacks like Better Minecraft use things like Willow for green and Umban for purple.
7:35 happy birthday to the ground! 🤬
Wake up babe, the best episode in the survival guide has dropped!
Oh and the infestation one now has become the defacto xp farm...allay, campfire and infestation bottles and you have 0-30 in a minute or less. Lol. Wild damn world.
