I am so happy Shadow of Intent dropped this! My ears have been begging for new tracks from them and I am NOT disappointed!!! My favorite Intent song is hard to nail down, The Heretic Privails, Melancholy, Gravesinger, Underneath a Sullen Moon, Where Millions have come to Die are all in my top.. honestly I can’t think of one track I don’t love.. Favorite band of all time right here….
7:30: Heres what Ben had to say about the meaning of the song: "Back in the 18th century, the black flag became a recognized symbol of piracy. The black flag came to mean: Give No Quarter. No quarter, means you won’t be taking prisoners. In a time of war, you plan to kill the enemy on the spot. The lyrics of the song were inspired by many particular situations that were a part of larger events, some happening right now this exact minute you're reading it. It touches on the indescriminate destruction of civilian areas, heinous crimes of murder, rape and enslavement at the hands of a foreign power, and zero prisoner policies for enemy troops at unit level. But also, the pressures faced as a personnel member of said power. Some of these perpetrators have committed unspeakable acts solely to avoid extrajudicial punishment at the hands of their peers, which that is also brought up in this song. The intent of the arrangements and delivery is to paint a sonic picture of evil, horror and disgust as you are hopeless trapped, and abandoned to death or difficult choices, and the consequences of them."
My favorite has to be Malediction. I saw them in San Diego during their Elegy tour and they closed out their set with it. I didn’t stop headbanging the entire show and after the song ended Andrew gave me his pick, was really fucking awesome.
They're out for blood with this new material, and I couldn't be happier. I love every record from SOI, and this is top five for me of all their songs as of now.
My favorite song is probably Malediction. It was the first song I heard from these guys and it was really my gateway into listening to more deathcore. Can't go wrong with any SOI release though, so hyped for whatever they're cooking up!
Oh boy, i have a lot of SOI songs that i really like, but the ones that i listen to repeat are The Heretic Prevails, The Catacombs, Barren and Breathless Macrocosm and The Dreaded Mystic Abyss. This one also became of my favs by them, i feel like they improved with this song since the last record
Listening to the song now watching this video made me appreciate and love the song even more. Hope they’re cooking something up. Favorite SoI songs are Melancholy, Malediction and Saurian King
If Blake Mullens is involved, it's worth listening to. Simple as. Imo, that guy is singlehandedly the most talented, creative force in the entire deathcore genre.
very pleasantly surprised to see that they're writing deathcore again, I'd definitely missed the breakdowns. My fav song of theirs is the catacombs on redeemer :3
So glad they’re writing breakdowns again. Wasn’t a fan of Elegy so it’s nice hearing stuff that’s closer to the Melancholy sound while also sounding like something new and fresh. My favorite Shadow of Intent song is Underneath a Sullen Moon.
Migrant really highlights a lot of Ben's newer vocal direction and vocal pattern writing, SUPER sick. I think blood in the sands of time is probably my top contender for SOI songs. Farewell is also somehow to me a masterpiece in how beautiful this genre of music can be, in a really heartfelt way (lyrically and compositionally) To talk on Ben's vocals for a sec, he consistently is always a welcome feature, just writes fun lines to listen to. -> The Poetic Edda, Mortal Vessel ....
I’d say Barren and Breathless Macrocosm is probably my favorite song from them. But this song is giving it a run for its money. I CANNOT stop listening to it
Incredible song, and I love it more very time I listen to it. It's hard to say what my favorite SOI song is, they don't have any bad ones. Gravesinger, Of Fury, The Heretic Prevails, Oudenophobia, and From Ruin.....We Rise are probably my top five.
Besides this one, which was a masterpiece, The migrant is my first introduction to SOI and has been in my blackened death core sludge metal list (or whatever label you wanna smack on it).
You know, this might be a little out of the blue, but my personal favorite by SoI would be Frozen Tomb, the B-side from Elegy. What solidifies this is that when I saw these guys live and asked both Bryce and Ben about that song and why it was a B-side, Ben mentioned that it wasn't going to be a B-side, but ultimately it was decided so. If we exclude B-sides, I would say Embracing Nocturnal Damnation. My thrash metal roots just love the energy of that track.
My favorite Shadow of Intent song has to be Malediction. That said, they don't really write bad tunes. I agree with you, though, that this definitely feels closer to the Melancholy album than Elegy.
Impossible to pick favorites with this band but top 5 are probably Intensified Genocide, Oudenophobia, Barren and Breathless Macrocosm, The Prophets Beckoning, and probably The Migrant. Agree with so much of what you said. Easily the biggest and scariest Ben has ever sounded. His delivery, flow, and lyricism have always been amazing and really set him above the rest. Bryce is one of my favorite musicians in the scene, period, and I think we're only going to get more technical from here. I could write paragraphs about what an amazing guitar player and songwriter Chris is. Glad we got a live video because it shows off just how hard Andrew shreds on bass. Love this band, love every album, love everyone in it, so happy to see everyone loving this song! I cant believe this is only the beginning of the new cycle!
Elegy was a good album, definitely second below Melancholy for me. That album had some of their best songs on it but the album as a whole had some weak points for me. Whereas Melancholy was solid all the way through, so much so that the whole album is always added to my playlists. This song however, is heavy and brutal and I love seeing SoI flex in this direction. They made very effective use of breakdowns like you said. I feel like the breakdowns set the feel of the song.
i would love to see you react/review either Eight Four One Six or DxE or Die by To the grave from their new album as i believe their tonal shift was really cool and their new sound is great
I agree with so many of your points. I don’t think Shadow Of Intent have ever written a bad song and as a huge fan of Reclaimer and its busy and technical riffage, with time I came to appreciate their less technical but more spaced out structure of songs and Elegy has become my favourite record for that reason. This song is another perfect example of less is more: a memorable lead riff (sounds techy but not too complicated), 2 different verses, however there isn’t ‘too much’ going on, just the right amount, the chorus/prechorus riff, which is straight to the point and short but sweet solo. Breakdowns do not feel out of place and have that Lorna Shore-esque vibe without overstaying their welcome. All that combined and we have one of the best Shadow songs for sure. Man, I’m impressed with everyone in this band. Hard to pick a favourite song but several ones include Barren, Saurian King, Reconquest, Malediction, The Return, Of Fury, The Forsaken Effigy.
The music they put out there. It blows my mind🤯 what a banger. I've listened to it at least 30 times since it came out. Easy one of my favorite bands of all time. I recognized myself throughout your reaction. Like the faces you make😂 the first time I listened to this song my kids just laughed at me. "mom, are you okay, do you need to take a shit?" With the response of my husband; "no she is just listening to a new shadow of intent song"😂
For me, they never reached again what a masterpiece they were at Reclaimer. Melancholy is crazy, Elegy is great too, but for me, Reclaimer 11\10 for now
Elegy wasn't my cup of tee. This feels like a fun and intensity of Reclaimer and memorable melodies of Melancholy combined. I am very looking forward to what they will bring with next single and the album.
the skeleton in the drums...never have thought. Type of metal i do like and i've been listening this band but....there's always a but isn't there. It really doesn't shine out from the rest of same kind. Acrhspire, you can listen it when you are filling forms. I do understand how good they are technically. I seriously put archspire when i was doing my job, filling forms and shit...fun. Weird that they don't sound anything special and we are for that?
With migrant and now flying the black flag, this album sounds up my alley, didn't care for elegy other than intensified genocide, too political and personally tired of politics as you see it everywhere anymore.
sorry but the only constant "god tier thing" about Shadow if Intent is Bens vocals, i find the instrumentation and the lack of "impact" kind of boring (Primordial, Reclaimer had so much more epicness and bite to it)
I am so happy Shadow of Intent dropped this! My ears have been begging for new tracks from them and I am NOT disappointed!!! Forgot Of Fury too!!

those drums.... this is the way, holy hell what a track
So happy Shadow Of Intent is back and with a banger. Love that main riff too.
This was insane. Was so happy to hear this during the weekend.
This song is just so darn good. SOI can't miss.
I was last week years old when I learned they started as a Halo-themed band.
My favorite has to be Malediction. I saw them in San Diego during their Elegy tour and they closed out their set with it. I didn’t stop headbanging the entire show and after the song ended Andrew gave me his pick, was really fucking awesome.

Oh! Now I remember why these guys are one of my favorite bands (I didn't forget)
Song made my pee white but drummer was literally just flexing on this song he did the assignment then went for the extra credit too
This song has been on repeat for me. So damn good. To answer your question: my favorite SOI song is The Mad Tyrant’s Betrayal.
Listening to the song now watching this video made me appreciate and love the song even more. Hope they’re cooking something up.
Favorite SoI songs are Melancholy, Malediction and Saurian King
ive always been shadow's number 1 stan since 2016 so im biased but they literally dont have a bad track in the whole catalog. this shit RIPS
Blake Mullens killed it on the production, Dave Otero killed it on the mix and master and Shadow of Intent just flatout killed it.
If Blake Mullens is involved, it's worth listening to. Simple as. Imo, that guy is singlehandedly the most talented, creative force in the entire deathcore genre.
My earholes are wet and happy!
Amazing!
🤘🏽🎩

Also Elegy had breakdowns
@@dachstheangry9735 barely. Not the kind of breakdowns I’m used to with them.
Underneath a Sullen Moon has one of the best choruses ever! It is my favorite song as well
Definitely deserved the monster score. Objective 9+ song
Migrant really highlights a lot of Ben's newer vocal direction and vocal pattern writing, SUPER sick. I think blood in the sands of time is probably my top contender for SOI songs.

Couldn't think of just one so here's five: Farewell, From Ruin We Rise, Melancholy, Intensified Genocide, The Migrant
favorite SOI song... that is tough.. besides this newest release, the whole Melancholy album
I dont have a favorite Should of Intent song because I've never really heard of them until this video but I'll definitely have to check them out now!
These boys crushed the assignment
They’re BACK
I'll see them live along with Fleshgod Apocalypse on October 8th 👍🏼
I’d say Barren and Breathless Macrocosm is probably my favorite song from them. But this song is giving it a run for its money. I CANNOT stop listening to it
They are so good live!
We got a bangaarrr

Unpopular opinion: my favorite SOI song is (if I had to choose one) is Farewell, underrated song. But Malediction is close 2nd
You know, this might be a little out of the blue, but my personal favorite by SoI would be Frozen Tomb, the B-side from Elegy. Insane song, one of my favorite bands of all time. Favorite song has to be The Battle of the Maginot Sphere or The Mausoleum of Liars.
Literally why does no one say this??? Mausoleum of Liars is such an underrated song, they did perfect on every part of that song
i would love to see you react/review either Eight Four One Six or DxE or Die by To the grave from their new album as i believe their tonal shift was really cool and their new sound is great
My fav SOU song is Oudenophobia.

My reaction to the whole song

Ben is a beast!!!!
Disembodied Tyrant just dropped you should react to this one as well !
If the Migrant and this song are both on the new album, that album as a whole should be a B A N G E R
For me, they never reached again what a masterpiece they were at Reclaimer. Melancholy is crazy, Elegy is great too, but for me, Reclaimer 11\10 for now
They just dont disappoint, it's so damn good
I think my favorite SoI song would either be The Mausoleum of Liars or this one. Amazing band.
Favororite shadow of intent song? How am i supposed to choose 😅 either the catacombs or the migrant!
You are out of your mind if you think you can say "this is there best since..." when it comes to Shadow. Everything is better than the last.
Chris Wiseman looks like "Strider" from LOTR. Especially at 3:05
Aragorn
@@salknight30 Viggo Mortensen, if we're splitting hairs.
that song fucks hard dude i love this band
Disembodied Tyrant dropped a new song.
8.9 because I didn't really like the "with or against, it matters not" part but all of the other pieces of the song are 9 - 10/10. At 3:24
The songwriting for SOI songs is so great
Hey bro. Check out the dudes from "Jaws of Dead Dog".The latest video " Penetration " is just a bomb
Awesome vid, disembodied tyrant also has a new song out now!
Best riff of the year for me is the main riff in Ziggurat by Eidola.
The Golgotha Compendium riff on the last breakdown is unreal
New disembodied tyrant song to is fire. Also favorite song from shadow of intent is blood in the sands of time
So pls react to new Disembodied Tyrant 🤝 (and to Peeling Flesh at least once lmao)
Favorite SoI song is and will ever be The Tartarus Impalement
Solo was so short. Makes me sad haha
Can’t comment a singular song… purely because the whole reclaimer as an album is just perfection
b b b b b banger
Speaking of Disembodied Tyrant.....that new drop is nasty.
I always keep saying the same thing: Shadow of Intent and Darko US bring good innovation to deathcore.
the mausoleum of liars is their best track to me
My fav heavy song from the last two week, but Disembodied Tyrant take it... All about Blake
guitar solo sounds almost like a violin
Elegy wasn't my cup of tee. This feels like a fun and intensity of Reclaimer and memorable melodies of Melancholy combined. I am very looking forward to what they will bring with next single and the album.
Blake Mullens really is the man with the golden touch, as far as deathcore goes. I haven't heard anything he's had a hand in, turn out as filler.
This song was very good but I personally prefer the migrant
Malediction!!!!
Malediction for sure
Ben looks like he finally hit puberty!
