also im pretty sure gideons son is only a year older than reid so that’s probably another reason
Another reason is because he sees reid as his intellectual equal. They are pretty smart especially since they both play chess
I miss the 2 of them. I loved the smile from Gideon after talking with Reid. I basically quit watching after Gideon left.

Most people just forget about the "try not" at the beginning of the quote.

Gideon always had a soft spot for Reid and I love there relationship. The fact that he never gives presents and had gotten one for Reid for the first time just proves how he valued Reid and care for him more then anyone ..
Also the way he made sure people put respect on his name. Such an endearing relationship

@@camillacolucci7576 In the last season when Reid is in surgery JJ tells Prentis about the "date". She didn't know it was a date and that Gideon was involved. She thought "BAU" we do things together" so she invites Garcia too. So no date. Yes I was so disappointed/pissed when they hooked JJ up with Will. It was a cheap shot. I like the actor who played Will but not in this show.
It was a crappy and poorly written ending they wrote for Reid. That was way too fast. Same with the endings for Garcia and Prentis. They both would have been a better match for Reid and would make more sence. They wouldn't be coworkers anymore either. Why was Garcia and Luke OK instead. Garcia with newby when she and Reid are soul mates? Reid and Prentis would be perfect too plus they are close friends in real life. I miss seeing MGG period.
I bought all 14 1/2 seasons. FYE still doesn't have season 5. Since I bought them in the last month. I'm on my THIRD TIME WATCHING THEM. I'm watching it now.

It's amazing how you can build a genius character like Dr. Reid with compassion and empathy without making him a jerk like Sheldon Cooper ❤️❤️
Reid is socially awkward, Sheldon is a narcisist.
Reid’s mom was also a genius. Even though she had schizophrenia and then dementia too! My point is Reid had someone around him to challenge him intellectually as well as being a nurturing mother! Sheldon was essentially alone with his intelligence though his mom was as nurturing as she could be with him. Plus Sheldon had a lot more social etiquette issues than Reid did.
One’s in a crime show, they other is played for laughs. No reason to compare them
As an autistic person I really love how Spencer is portrayed in comparison to Sheldon. It feels like they did actual research on it and incorporated it into a character without making it define him or become a misrepresentative stereotype.
I mean ofcourse few autistic people are geniuses of his level, but I mostly found his speech pattern, social que issues, body language and mannerism relatable.
As well as the fact that one of my fixations for a few years was learning obscure facts and having little control over infodumping about it when it was mentioned, much like he does. But I think that more of a specific thing than a general experience.
I really appreciate that they portray him as a kind and empathetic character despite his difficulty with social interaction, which is quite a break from the 'smart autistic = low empathy = asshole' takes that you see on so many shows, which is often blown out of proportion for stereotypes and while it represents some autistic people, many people don't know that a lot of autistic people can have too high empathy that causes them to feel more compassionately for others than would be normal, even if they have trouble with sympathizing socially (in my case I have fluctuating empathy, usually high but sometimes abnormally low and I can't do anything about it) it also probably feeds into the strong sense of justice, right and wrong, etc, which is very common in people on the spectrum, and could lead to that kind of job.
Another thing I noticed is that even the way he walks is the same as me, as he'll often hold his hands together which is a common thing.
Sorry for the whole ass essay 3 years after you comment, I just finished season 1 of this show and I'm really quite surprised to find such an accurate and inoffensive depiction of an autistic character in a show from fricking 2005.

actually in season 1 reid did have a crush on JJ. They first planned on Reid being bisexual but later decided on him liking JJ and then they decided he should just be straight.

+Arriana Mahoney The only original cast still there throughout the 11 seasons are Hotchner, Reid, Garcia, JJ and as of the 18th episode of season 11, Morgan. The rest have been replaced by different characters/actors throughout the seasons.

I love how Gideon left the space between red and skins just like Spencer did instead of correcting him.
I just finished Season 1 watching for the first time and honestly I live for Gideon and Spencer's father-son dynamic. Which i guess makes sense considering hes a sweet guy around Gideons actual sons age.
All their dynamics are so fun and id love to just see a sitcom episode of all of them, no stress just interactions and hijinks. Spencer and Garcia's friendship is also just my favourite.

I really hated Elle's character and was glad they got rid of her.
I don't. I like her more than the characters that are in the new seasons. The first couple of seasons of criminal minds are the best. There was real profiling, the stories were interesting, the characters stuck to business and didn't become family members who meddle into each other's personal lives, (like they do now), and they were realistic enough to make an episode that wasn't solved. The case of the gypsy families wasn't solved because they did not find the other families that were kidnapping the little girls. But now every episode is about the characters just guessing theories about the case, and they solve every case by telling Garcia what to type into her magic computer. It's so stupid. I would rather have Gideon and Elle back instead of these characters likeGarcia, who just meddles into the other's lives and wanting to know who they are dating and whatnot. She wasn't like that in season 1.
Reid is basically criminal minds internet
