They'll do this eventually, most likely. Doesn't matter whether or not anyone wants it.
If Shrek 6 makes tons of money next year and revives the IP, they'll probably greenlight this immediately.
I'd be ok with an animated remake using modern technology to make it look like Puss in Boots 2 or The Wild Robot. Even that would be redundant, though. But at least we could say it's the definite version visually.
