warrior is just a straight upgrade in DD2 compared to the first game. i didn’t mind how warrior played in DD1, but the main thing that really made warrior bad in the first game is that it only got to carry 3 weapon skills while every other vocation got access to 6. in DD2, every vocation now, including warrior gets access to 4 weapon skills, so warrior is now on the same playing field as the other vocations instead of being limited in its versatility compared to the rest of them for no real reason. it also just feels smoother to play in general. as for some other mechanics, i do miss being able to stack buffs with periapts in DD1, but it’s not that big of a deal that extracts don’t stack when you apply multiple unlike periapts where you can stack up to 4 of them for massive damage

It really is. I always wanted the fantasy of the big sword to work but it never did in the 1st game. Warrior is very good now.

@ninjafrog6966 exactly how I felt. Although I didn't think warrior live up to the huge sword fantasy like I would've preferred.

You can still snack buffs in DD 2... However, those are potions, now. But there is a defense-potion and an attack-potion available. And it's even easier to "snack" them, because you don't need to cycle to the according inventory anymore... (periapts had another screen than normal curatives. and there wasn't an "all items" screen in game one...)

The loot grind. DD2 did it much worse. BBI loot was everything had had you replaying and grinding for hours. DD2... Not so much, all the loot is just at vendors

To me DD2 does map and exploration a lot better better, pawn creation and pawn AI, character creation, and fights against common enemies are really grueling, i also like the campfire system and the horse cart system, its quite immersive in my opinion. DD1 is better for vocations but is quite a bit better when it comes to story, armor layering, grinding and enemy variation and boss-fights (a major plus to DD1 in the last regard, but we should not count BBI), i also greatly prefer the music in the original. The story and enemy variation and the fact that weapons are too available in shops are the major weaknesses for DD2, and the fight against Grigori was in context of the original, underwhelming for those that played Number 1. DD2's love system is better because its far less in your face in my opinion, I hated the love system in DD1, but it also at the same times gave me the biggest laugh that i have ever gotten out of a video game the first time i played it and where blissfully unaware of there ever being such a system, (Although I do love you Caxton :P).

@snuppssynthchannel yeah I agree with most of what you said but mostly the dragon fight. It was so cool in the first and I was a little underwhelmed in dd2. The flight there had me getting excited but there was no build up like the fight had in dd1. Running through destroyed buildings and a collapsing bridge to reach the arena was so cool

Comparing DD2 to DDDA makes way less sense than DD1 imo. But over all pretty solid take. Don’t agree with all of it, but I can def see where you’re coming From.

i’d say i actually enjoyed the post game more in DD2 than the everfall in the first game. the everfall really only feels like a massive fetch quest with the only real goal outside of collecting the 20 wakestones to progress to the ending being the Ur Dragon which is admittedly a cool idea, but not my cup of tea. i actually prefer the unmoored world over the everfall so far, especially with the added time mechanic that adds tension to what you decide to do with the time you have left in the unmoored world before you have to eventually end the game. i also like how capcom giving the pawns more of a personality is weaved into the ending of the game as your pawn travelling with you throughout the game gives them a will of their own. i personally really like time based mechanics in video games, especially if it’s done well and adds tension to the story. my favourite game is majora’s mask for this very reason, so i immediately vibed with the unmoored world when i got to it and found out about only having a limited amount of rests because doing so advances the fog on the map, meaning you have to pick very carefully when you rest so you don’t accidentally lock yourself out of content, and if you don’t rest and die, you start from the point from when you first entered the unmoored world. it works really well for the context of the story post dragon. DD1 does have an overall better story, but DD2 has the better post game in my opinion

      @-Nardo-Blue  Місяць тому +1

@aboveaveragecat44 I feel that. But one journeys end doesn't mean you won't see each other again. I often swap pawns out and meet my favorites out on the road, and then we team up again. So it's never really the end.

@aboveaveragecat44 oh, so you meant swap them out because of level. I thought you meant for a different vocation of pawn. But yeah, that stinks, I often use a low-level pawn because I like him, and I wish he would be higher level cause it's a little annoying reviving so much.

I like that you can set quests for your pawn in DD2 but I dislike that your pawn will only gains experience for monsters in those set quests. One per hire too. You do still learn secrets and gain story quest experience at least.
I miss the pawn rating system of DD1. I liked seeing what people thought of the look of my pawn and how well it was in battle. The generic thumbs up or heart don't really tell you much.
I like the added ox cart travel. At first I never used it but when I gave it a change it was fun. Fast travel with some risk to it is rather unique. I do wish it took you to more locations though.
It's a small thing but I like how you don't have to use an action button to open doors in DD2.
I have mixed feelings about some things. Petrifaction was soo annoying in the last game but it really lost a lot of its risk in DD2. Camping to truly gain full health is also something I'm not sure how to feel about. My whole team died and with it I lost my camping kit. Wandering around with next to no health trying to find a city or fort was exciting but also annoying.
PS: I'm glad you brought up the loading screen change. For all the complaints about the frame rate, I never hear anyone compliment how little you have to sit and not play the game.

@davejohn3600 I agree with so much of what you said. Especially the petrification change, the medusa is like the defacto petrification monster in mythology and I've never been petrified once by her.

capcom doubled down and pulled the same crap it did last time in favor of, yet again, monster hunter.
combats good, diversity is lacking, classes removed, all ranged classes were reduced in spells or limited, and the story was nearly abandoned this time around

    • @-Nardo-Blue
      @-Nardo-Blue  2 місяці тому +3

@TheSteelkeeper0 I mostly agree with the story being abandoned part. I appreciate you not saying it's bad because it doesn't start off poorly but loses a lot of steam after you reach battahl. It is sad because dragons' dogma could be way bigger than any monster hunter game.

I don't really agree with you on your first point... I think DD1 was lacking in a lot of things because it was a new IP and had no budget, but DD2 lacked in areas because it was Itusno"s last game before he left Capcom
I don't think Capcom ever wanted to really do a sequel for Dragon's Dogma, but Itsuno might have conviced them as a sort of last wish before leaving... I don't think Monster Hunter has anything to do with this really.
Let's hope that with the sales DD2 got we've secured a DLC and a sequel though, would love to see a DD3 handled right
