    My mom also Catholic grew up in a Polish Jewish neighborhood in Sioux Falls. Here Latkes were insane good. She was such an incredible as was her mom. I miss them dearly

      Yes I always think that polish foods were taken over by Jews eh stuffed cabbage rolls, latkes, chicken soup etc

    For all the critics, I think there are still some really great lessons in this technique. I also hand shred my potatoes and add the starch back in. I don't add additional starches or beer, though. Feel free to pop over to my channel to see my method for perfectly crispy mini latkes!

    Thank you Martha so much. I was looking for a way to cook for Hanukkah something delicious.
    This is just perfect and easy.

      ? She added 2 beaten eggs. And you have to drain it because if you throw a bunch of water in oil it's going to make the oil splatter and pop and probably burn you. I know I've done it :(

      Heather C If one is going to use (2) eggs for that amount of potatoes….. one is making nothing but Hash browns! This looks like a dietician attacked a fabulous old classic!! Dietitians leave our food ALONE!!

    You can tell old Martha has servents to wash dishes. She dirties every dish in the house. I made a lot of potato pancakes last night and dirtied the potato peeler, a bowl, a box grater, a spoon and the skillet.

    why drain it, if you're going to use the starch anyways?

    • @Pr0fessorScience
      @Pr0fessorScience 10 років тому +6

      Thank you! I was watching this thinking "No, you need the starch!" And then she just dumped it back in. Pointless waste of time - better to just put all the shreds in a colander and let them drain for 10 min. And adding the beer was a mistake, it makes the potato soggier. All you really need is potatoes, an onion, and good oil.

    Martha, Martha, Martha. SMH. What are you DOING? Those look like hash browns not latkes. Matzo meal not flour if you are calling these traditional.

      Flour would than be "potato pancakes" and not the Jewish traditional standard. ✡️🔯🕎

    Way too hard. There are much simpler way to do it than that. No ice water, just rinse grated potatoes till no starch is left, I do it three or so times.

    I was taught how to make latkas by my mom. Being Jewish we don't put beer in them, we use more eggs, I use baking powder and matzo meal ans don't use no cream fresh. These look terrible.
