The SL3 is a much bigger upgrade than most mention. I have been using the SL2 from when it was released and received my SL3 the day after release. This camera really shows how amazing the SL-APO lenses are. I have been really pushing the SL50 Summilux to the max on the SL3 as well. I have made prints at 24"x36" from this camera at 50,000ISO run through lightroom denoise to see what it can do and the results are great. Much better than expected. I have never used Denoise before, and not as clean as a print from base ISO, but more than acceptable.
Nice frank review. I saw the SL3 pre-launch and was impressed by the slightly smaller size and lesser weight, compared to the SL2. I have a silver SL2 and might pick up an SL3 next year. I need time to get used to the M11 and M11 Monochrom. Did you get your kit at Leica Store Miami?
I cannot believe how this self proclaimed luxury brand has the most expensive mirrorless body on the market but it uses a mid range viewfinder 😮💨😮💨😮💨 The only acceptable reason would be that sony refused to sell them the 9m dot viewfinder but I doubt that as I've seen other companies have it. I think to command a premium price it should atleast match the basic super important to the photography experience specs. Such as the quality of the viewfinder. This is the same viewfinder that was shipping in cameras less than half the sl3's price FIVE years ago.
Hello, I currently have the Leica Q3 and SL2-s. I have downloaded several DNGs from Leica SL3 and I have seen that the noise treatment is incredible, I would say at least a better stop than Q3 and at the height of the SL2-s. Could you confirm that for me? If it were so, it would be incredible to have the resolution of the SL3 and the low noise of the SL2-s
I HAVE THE SL2. FOR ME I WOULD HAVE KEPT THE 47MP RESOLUTION AND JUST WORKED IMPROVING AF WITH PD LIKE LUMIX HAS DONE WITH THEIR S5 II. ALSO WORK ON ROLLING SHUTTER. I FIND MY SENSOR HAS NOISE THAT SPOILS RESOLUTION SO WHY INCREASE MP FURTHER. SL2 DOESN'T NAIL FOCUS SO PD WOULD HELP TO GET SHARPER IN FOCUS IMAGES.
Are there any practical differences between using this camera with a 28mm Summilux lens compared to a Q3? You might be able to judge this better than most. If I plan to use both 28mm and 35mm lenses, will I notice any differences?
Size and weight will be the biggest one. The Leica Q3 is lighter and smaller. The optical quality will also differ, the 28mm Summilux M lens has a bit more character than the Q3 Summilux.
Alex, thanks for your video! Just received my SL3 and love it. What set of lenses are you using with it? Based on your videos, I would guess Sigma. Also, a setup guide would be very helpful. I’m finding it a bit more challenging to setup than the SL2. Thanks for all the work you put into your videos. Appreciate your clear, direct style.
Squares on all the faces and eyes! That bugs me a lot too! That really affects portrait shoots as we couldn’t see the expression or eye directions like you have said. I was surprised there were so little mentions about this issue on the internet. Hope Leica could change that in the future!
Great review Alex. My two constraint to fully switch from Sony for video is the massive 1.4 crop in 4k modes (that’s almost super 35 crop!) and the slow sensor readout.
You can keep the cat, truck, moon vehicle or whatever it is but, I’ll take the SL3! Contact Leica about your user experience with all the highlights blocking the detail. They listen to their customers & might give an option via firmware if enough tell them.

I just received my sl3 too, and I am choosing my 50mm with a great aperture. Could you also make a comparison between summilux 50 1.4 and sigma 50 1.2?
Another great video, the photos of your truck are so cleannnn (and makes for a great Part 2 of your Cybertruck vlog) 💪 do you see a serious difference in image quality when comparing the SL3 and, say, a Canon R5/Sony A7RV? Or is it more about the user experience etc?
Hey Alex love my SL3 and Q3. Great to use the same batteries for both cameras. Would you get the 24-70 2.8 or the 24-90 2.8-4? Have heard that the 24-70 is a bit softer and the 24-90 is super sharp edge to edge. What are your thoughts? Also, which prime lens would you prefer to complement the zoom range? Thanks
I would go with the 24-70 and a 50mm lens. The 24-90 is sharper corner to corner but in the center both lenses are comparable. I value the extra light gathering over the sharper corners.

Rarely use my SL2s because of the poor AF and I`ve heard on the SL3 is a bit better but still not anywhere near the best on the market .Probably going to have to give it a miss unfortunately .I was hoping that they`d have sorted the issue out. The smaller lighter body is very tempting though. Another good review.
For exactly the same reason I am staying with Sl2S. Sl3 still hunts the focus which is a shocker that after so many years they still did not nailed it, has issues with deleting images etc. I think the smaller size and lighter is great but not the pro tool I was expecting also for video. I guess Ill wait for Sl3S or Sl4. SL2S is incredible camera.And to be honest, I do not have issues with focus that much with Sl2s. I know its limitations and adjusted my handling acordingly.

And the low resolution viewfinder at that price...
We need to see an AF tests vs a sony camera, we know it won't be as good but how big is that gap is the question.
