    Note: The Old Man & Scav Girl has access to the fewest Rigs (which allow you to hold more loot, guns, and large items like water). Their class skills allow them to use certain rigs that the other classes have natural access to. The Bag Man has access to all rigs right from the start.

    Personally, I really dislike RPG mechanics if it's just "2% buff to X" style progression. Set a base speed out of 100 with the speedster character being fastest by a significant margin, then have leveling up automatically increase that stat for everyone, everyone gets a little faster, but your fast character remains consistently fastest. Same for every other shared stat. Reduce the number of long guns any character can use to one unique one and one shared with another class, that way if people want to experiment with a wide variety of weapons they'll be encouraged to play different characters.
    For upgrades that actually require XP investment, they should really change or evolve the character's gameplay in some significant way, the only cases where a stat boost isn't boring is when the boost is significant. If all you're willing to change is numbers and not mechanics, go big upgrades. 20% more damage...but only on headshots. Double your reload speed, but only for SMGs, Double your belt size for LMGs but also double your reload times, etc.
    A max rank character in a game with RPG mechanics should play very differently from a starter character, if your upgrade tree is just a straight line that character should be much more powerful, if you use more of a branching tree approach the end point should be a character with unique playstyles that both relate to the original role.
    If character upgrades require five levels for what I'd consider only marginal improvements, I'd rather just get rid of the RPG mechanics entirely and have your stats based on gear you can find instead, that at least would tie directly back into the scavenging system which will be at the core of the game.

    • @KnightKnowledge
      @KnightKnowledge  4 дні тому +6

      The skill system could definitely be improved and I think it will change during early access!

    • @youtubeisapublisher6407
      @youtubeisapublisher6407 3 дні тому +1

      @@KnightKnowledge My hopes for sure, if the system isn't interesting or it doesn't reward investment much it won't be much of a draw to bring people back to get more XP and would be better off EITHER being worked into something more interesting, or cut completely.
      Personally that's how I'd approach mechanics if I were a dev at least. Nothing extraneous, no man-hours wasted at all, something is either vital to make the game good or it's gone.

      Seeing the extraction would be useful for the first few runs of a map, but once you know where they are it's not really useful anymore, in the future if all extractions are timed, having him reduce the time to extract would be useful, or better Intel on enemy locations so he'd be more useful during a match and not just the end

    I kind of hope that Gunhead's big advantages are tracking/identification based. Imagine if Gunhead doesn't just highlight enemies when you scan over them, but tags them in the process. (the same way you can mark enemies.) And/Or when you highlight enemies or tag them, it lasts twice as long. Both of these would make Gunhead a situational awareness build.
    Or at least some character should focus on that. We've got general utility in Old Man, Speed in Scav Girl, MaskMan is the combat generalist, Shaman is loot generalist, Bag Man is the slow but powerful build. If Gunhead is 'engaging multiple targets at once' as their character focus, than that's the slot that logically follows to me.
    That being said, I do like that there is a 'generalist combat' in Maskman and a 'heavy combat' in Bag Man, and both a 'speedy loot' and 'generalist loot' in Scav Girl and Shaman. It demonstrates the dev team are willing to let characters share some design space.
    We really need some numbers though, like 'max hp/speed/weight capacity' baselines for each. It seems like that varies between them and being better informed will help people find what they're looking for.

    • @CoffeeFiend1
      @CoffeeFiend1 День тому

      I've been wondering if Gunhead maybe has some kind of ability to target and shoot things in 360 degrees i.e. regardless of which direction he's facing, he could run away and shoot behind him. This would mean it would have to be some kind of automatic-tracking/targeting though as we can't look behind ourselves in the 2nd-person/over-shoulder POV. If he is really the utter epitome of multi-limb/hardpoint pew pew pew I suspect he'll need a fairly significant drawback in some other area.... I reckon loot/carry capacity probably.

    Something to keep in mind with the Shaman and Scav Girl:
    Shaman can max out his speed at an 8% increase from "Average" base speed, and Scav Girl can max out at a 10% increase of her "Faster" base speed. I'm not sure how different their base speeds actually are, but the Personnel Info suggests that she'd be faster without any perk investment.

    So the Old Man Heavy Rifle is not unique to him since Mask Man and Bag Man also have them.. and also, the Rig skills lets you buy some rigs when you get 16 water and unlock the vendor.. Some rigs are restricted by character, If i remember correctly, Bag Man has access to all, and Scav Girl is very limited, but she can unlock some by investing skill..
    Overall.. for my play style, Scav Girl is kinda good, because of the unique speed and the sprint upgrades.. but Shaman.. is the loot man.. better loot hud, access to some of the better rigs.. and the Sprint and Carry skills.. Everything a Scac needs.

      from what I can tell, the classes that don’t need to level into rigs can carry any rig, which means you can bum rush the 700k rigs and start grinding large items quick. The accuracy upgrades dont seem to be worth it, although I haven’t pushed them past 5% because I havent had a problem. The 3 classes that can use heavy rifles will be useful a bit down the road, since theres no real access to heavy rifles earlygame, however they seem rare enough that I wouldn’t pick a class just for that. I personally run scav girl, and at prestige 3 you can unlock enh. gunrunner rig, which still only gives you one large slot, but basically double the carrying capacity. Enh. gr also comes stock with a reinforced large slot, which “has a small chance of absorbing incoming damage,” I was running away from a squad tonight and it blocked 5 or 6 shots in a row, so that could definitely make a difference. Pick a character based on the way you’d like to play: Old man is jack of all trades, scav girl is the fast one, mask man can see all the extracts and plan accordingly, shaman is the loot goblin, bag man carries the biggest gun.
