A lot of the palms in the Columbia area looked pretty rough after the Christmas freeze but they're already recovering nicely with the warm weather and most of them are green again
I get its a big setback, but I hope you keep on planting more palms and do some zone pushing as well with washies and canary islands. Get some brahea armata, perfectly hardy in your location. Parajubaea torallyi would be great as well. Mule, Jubaea also comes to mind.
Charlotte Airport registered 9° on Christmas Eve and 14 9 13 14 for four straight nights of lows. That would definitely do in even the hardiest of Washies.
If the top of the palm collapsed or the crown was laying straight down I would say it is a goner. But because the top fronds are still straight up I would say it lived.
Also I’m not sure that’s a sabal palmetto, the silver scales on the petioles at 4:10 it looks like Sabal maritima, which is most interesting and quite a find if it is. It would explain the leaf burn as they’re not as hardy as palmetto. It sure like to see the rest of the palm. It’s being grown in Augusta Georgia and Columbia SC.
Man I seen that the palms lower to the ground was fine. Which I was expecting cuz the higher you go the colder it gets. The lower to the ground you are the better you are.
Ouch, that’s rough to see, but Washys are really tough palms, I really hope they recover! Keep us posted, those ones are huge!

The palmetto later in the video looks like the crown is infested with scale.
That’s the first thing that I thought

Pindo on the left of that first house looked crispy too.

rest in peace the og washy we all loved.
at least it might come back
Damn that cold weather put a whooping on those awesome palms. Hopefully they recover, which I think they will at those large sizes.

Those 'smaller ones' in better shape look like Trachycarpus fortunei to me which would explain why they are looking fine 🌴

Those silver scales look like an infestation of scale insects to me - which could also contribute to the plant damage being more severe
It's a cruel world man. What a shame. Love your enthusiasm as always though 👍
The petioles are still up, so there may be live tissue in the bud still. Lots of ones in Texas looked like that in 2021 and came back
I saw a lot of dead Washingtonias tall ones in Houston TX this year

Hopefully it will recover quickly
